The Fall of Faolchu - cannot complete due to phased-out questgiver

This happened to a friend and me this week. We were grouped with two other people. We did the Fall of Faolchu quest, all the way up to the turn-in conversation with Darien. In that conversation Darien asks about getting a drink. When chose to tell him that he is not my type, he phased out in front of my eyes. Something similar happened to my friend. The other two people in our group were able to complete the conversation and complete the quest.

Since then I have tried going to character select and coming back, quitting the game completely and coming back, and this morning logging in after the server reset. Nothing works. I see the quest icon on my compass and on my map, but I do not see Darien. No Darien, no interaction with Darien, an incomplete quest in my log and no achievement for getting rid of Faolchu. Being a completionist at heart, this is annoying.

Has anyone else run into this problem? I did submit a bug report. Anyone have a good workaround (short of dropping the quest and doing it over) until this problem bubbles up to the top of Zenimax's priority list?

Thanks!

I don't remember what my response to him was, but this definitely sounds like a quest-killing bug.
You meet up with Darien again, so if he's disappearing that's surely not supposed to happen.

When ESO first came out, it was set so your team mates 'phased out' if they picked different options, but everyone hated that, so its now changed.

When in a group, the 'phase' is that of the group leaders. If they pick option A and you pick option B and the 'zone' changes based on that pick. Then yes, what happened to you is exactly what will happen.

The 'phase' will always match the team leader. This is to 'help' grouping, by keeping everyone in the same phase. But it only works if you all pick the same options.

You either have your team mates 'phase out' or the quest/zone 'phase out'. You can not have it do both. The only option is to degroup and zone out and back to get 'your' phase or drop the quest and redo

Thanks for your response. Degrouping, zoning, and coming back is part of what I have tried. FWIW, I was the team leader when we formed the group, but as you may have observed, sometimes the game glitches and there is no leader or even a different leader.

I had the very same problem. Was playing with my husband and we did not even have the same choices. I picked "not my type" and Darien disappeared. Now cannot complete or even find him, although the marker still shows up on my map. The werewolves are all still alive when I go back but for him they are all dead and a safe area now. He completed the quest. I sent in a help request and have a game assistant hooking up with me tomorrow night to try and "fix the problem". Hopefully that will work, as I also don't want to drop the quest and do over. Frustrating....*sigh*

I ran into this on my main, and as a result Camlorn shows up incomplete, even though I moved on in the zone.

Ran into another NPC disappearing with the phase; this one's for the Glenumbra public dungeon with the Bad Man or whatever he's called. There are two NPCs with quests. One involves destroying roots, the other collecting gems. If you finish the roots, it phases the dungeon to the finale with the end boss, and the questgiver for the gem quest does not appear on his map point any more.

Tried the ungroup, log out, log in thing and still no Darien to complete the quest. No help from ESO either. They suggested I repair my game client, which I did and of course that didn't help either. Has anyone tried to drop the quest and just redo? I wanted to ask before I drop it and then can't pick it up again. And where do you pick up the quest after dropping it?? Any help would be appreciated.

I had a quest npc for a quest I dropped entirely disappear for me, and the quest couldn't even be shared. In the quest you find out he is the bad guy, and you helped poison his wife. You have a set amount of time to save her. I died, so I figured I'd redo the quest. Now I can't finish it at all.

Just want to update to say that this issue was finally resolved for me by a wonderful Gamemaster by the name of John. The quest could not be resolved as it was and I had to finally abandon it, but he walked me through where to find Darien to pick it back up at the point of the helpers lighting the fires. (He will be in the house close to where the marker shows he is supposed to be before dropping) and then I did have to fight Faolchu again, but easily defeated him and thus completed the quest, got the skill point and more importantly could move on in Cadwell's Silver. John was very attentive and helpful throughout the whole mess and never did abandon me to my own resources. I just wanted to give him props for his attention and diligence in helping me finish this quest. Good luck to you all.

@Heraclea‌ That happened to me, I contacted in-game GM and he told me to check dungeon entrance. I did and the NPC had moved to that location hope this will help you. The response i got was sometimes NPC's wander around when they get bored :)

Thanks for all the helpful posts. I eventually threw in the towel and dropped the quest, then redid it. Phasing has many good points but some terrible shortcomings. I hope that, with time, the devs will find a good way to overtime them.

Here it is two to three years later and I am having a similar problem. I was doing both the find Darien and the one where you use a cure to change the werewolves back to people. I met Darien and on my way to battle Faolchu I decided to finish the cure quest before I went to face him. The quest disappeared altogether so I can’t abandon it to start over and Darien is nowhere to be found. I’m glad I decided to drop my ESO Plus account because there are too many bugs like this and it would really make me mad if I was paying $190 a year for it.

I was starting to read this thread and they mentioned "they simply contacted the in-game gm" and I was like "what, how?"
