Critical Strike Damage

Is there any way (or any addon possibly) that shows how much crit damage a character has? Also is there any soft cap for it?

Thanks in advance!

It's not a displayed value. And there's no soft cap on crit.

i have an add on that show dmg to foe - when I don't crit on a heavy attack I see about 300 when I do crit I see about 424... so 124 more. a little more than a third more?

I believe crit damage is 150% of non-crit damage, but could totally be wrong. As far as I know, there is no softcap for crit damage (obviously critical chance is hardcapped at 100%). Any passives you have that increase crit damage will add to that, as percentages in this game are additive.

I recommend getting Foundry Tactical Combat. It has very nice scrolling combat text and you can easily see your crits.

Crit damage is 1.5 times normal damage, before damage reduction. "The Shadow" mundus stone can increase this by 10%, to 1.6x. Having the divines trait on items can increase this further. I don't think that there are any other ways to increase critical damage at the time.

1.5x the normal damage you do with attack. SO 150 dmg = 225.

So what do you think is better - increasing your chance to crit, your crit damage or just increasing your spell and or weapon power?

Crit chance and crit dmg is the superior dps in all games I have ever played. As fact, no spell power or weapon power maximum in this game can achieve the top damage of a critical hit. For example, if you maxxed out spell power versus someone who maxxed crit chance the numbers would look like this-

    Spellpower max 100,100,100,100
    Critical max 80,80,160,160,

Even with someone having 20% less power than you, they can still hit harder than you can ever hit with critical hit chance. The damage could even-out in the long run but the chances of that become more and more improbable the more critical hit chance a player has. This topic has had a lot of arguments over the years, especially in games like diablo, warcraft, etc.

I'm not sure on the math but I would assume there is eventually a number prior to 100% where weapon/spell damage should count more. I feel like at some point other DPS stats would help more (Penetration, damage) I mean I could be completely wrong though but having more than 50% crit to me seems odd.

In WoW, it really depended on which spec you had. If you were an arcane mage, haste and spell power were much better than crit, but for a fire mage, crit reigned supreme.

Well the difference between haste in WoW and haste in ESO is... haste isn't a completely worthless thing in WoW. Haste is so broken in ESO since it doesn't really do anything. If it's ever fixed to actually speed up animations therefore making you actually use skills quicker then it might be nice but it's pretty darn weak at the moment. If haste sped up Flurry it might make the skill really great.

I think you missread the tooltip of Haste. It is not broken. it reduces the attack speed of light and heavy attacks by 30%. Flurry has nothing to do with it.

The only thing we have access to that reduces attack speed in general is rapid strikes (flurry morph) afaik.

IMO if Haste affected Channeling and/or sped up animation like what smercgames_ESO wrote then yea it would be worth while. At the moment it's worthless due to animation clipping so it's a little pointless. Also with the changing coming to Haste on PTS, it seems that 2H/Bow benefit more from it then DW.

    Thoughts?

I didn't misread the tooltip i know what it does, by Haste I didn't mean the skill haste either I was comparing it to "haste" in WoW. and like @shad0w18‌ said with animation clipping the current ESO attack speed increases are worthless because by the time the animation is done for the skill you used to clip the "auto attack" you are ready to attack again regardless.

I have yet to jump into the PTS though and the haste morph supposedly increases the dmg of heavy attacks which might change things up a bit if it's a significant amount since haste does lower the charge up time for heavies I believe.

i honestly never even notice any crit damage being done with my char. i use a Bow, and my crit chance is 32%, and my damage is about 86 or 85 atm, plus a 24 damage flame enchantment
