It's too early to tell because of all the bad signs that it did not work? :)

mega servers + VR realm switching makes relic wars in cyrodil seem WAY less connected than relic wars in Daoc.

In Daoc, if someone knew there was a relic raid, immediately the whole realm would hear about it, and everyone would get on their highest level char and either defend or join the relic raid.

Here? who cares. What realm am I on again? I forgot now that my char is spending 100% of its time helping out people in the other realm.

    it's a cool concept though.

    Yes.

So, if I shoot a guy in the head, and you walk up and ask if the guy died from a bullet to the head, my response should be, "We might never know, he's dead, so we can't ask him." :)

I prefer this many times over the old way. Sticking to one server, having to pay for a transfer (if the option was available) ---- finding out other friends play the game but you didn't know it at the time you both selected your servers, etc... not cool.

The Secret World does this sort of implementation. Even though they will have some different named servers, all in all everyone is connected just like here. However, ZOS has implemented it with MUCH less lag. Stop thinking Wabbajack (that's because the EP/DC ran scared off AB server as they got pummeled by AD and then some AD followed them making that campaign now over-populated for who has it set to home). In general there are very few lag spikes in this game. Once in a while sure, but what game doesn't have that? Even offline games will hiccup and stutter mimicking the same thing at times. Then again, I'm not sure what crappy internet connection the masses have as I know I have a pure fiber optic connection over 100/100 which will be increased very soon. To top it off, I use wifi so it's definitely not that as I've upgraded my router within the last few months to maximize my wireless connection. And yet I rarely have lag problems. Outdated routers, networking cards, your actual ISP, automatic updates running in the background, etc.. so many things can contribute to a person's lag.

We're on a mega server? Aside from a few figures running around that somehow don't quite act like NPCs, I'm enjoying having ESO to myself, I am.

Actually the Megasever is one of the things that actually work in favour of ESO. Its definitely the way to go.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of basic mmo-features like nameplates it doesnt matter how much people play with you together, it always feels like a Singleplayergame.

The concept is a great idea, but they still need to iron out some issues with phasing and spreeding the load across the entire network of servers which make them up.

Saying that, even with the normal shard MMO's you still get handshake(rubber banding) issues within their networks and that technology has been around for a long time in computing terms, so I'll give them some time to hopfully(fingers crossed) improve.

Bad idea. Not that we even have it in Europe to test out yet.
1 server for everyone means they will only be adding instanced content or Housing to the game as the server will suffer massive lag if it's not instanced.
Also means that storage space is limited to a certain pre-determined max so I doubt we will ever see an increase in storage unless the server is 'very' empty.

Side note, these types of server are hugely expensive to run. I can see the Euro server being shelved before we even get it with the diminishing numbers ingame right now.
Being First is not the prize, it just mean's everyone can stab you in the back.

I love it and really think it's the next big thing regarding networking in MMO's. With new and previously untested things problems are to arise certainly. Give them some time (more than 3 months) to polish this thing out :-)

Love that about TSW (being able to play with all my friends, no matter on which dimension they play); I like it here in ESO too.

It's not that bad looking at performance issues, and the name system gives you the opportunity to choose the characters ingame name more freely than in TSW for example.

Maybe to early but regardless mixing casual and PvE with hardcore and PvP DOESN'T work. Too many including myself want to stay focused on the story and PvE adventuring and are not interested so much in crafting, strategy, PvP, and/or forced into becoming hardcore to _finish_ the game in 4 years. I guarantee I have no interest in and won't be playing this game beyond many months. $180 to play for a year? I don't think so.

I have mostly no issue while doing PvE. But when I step into cyrodiil. Welcome to lag zone.

Someone was talking about crap network etc... I tell you what. I do not have 100/100 but I have decent 8/2 and it works incredibly well for other games including WoW, so why it does not work with ESO? I suppose that if I have latency 20-40 at every single game except of ESO it surely means my connection is crap right?

It was a good idea, but the implementation feels like beta status:
    - grouping bugs including client crashes
    - phasing issues (can't see friends/group members)
    - quest issues (friends disappear because they are in another quest state)
    - still no language sorting, so everyone is required to speak english
    - still no RP option
    - and still no plans on fixing anything of that

The megaserver in ESO is fantastically used and implemented. It truly is a thing of beauty. Every game should use this tech, altho this *may* be what is contributing to the bot infestation so that needs to get a good handle before this goes mainstream.

US megaserver for someone in EU is a big NO. If I knew there wouldn't have been a EU server, I probably wouldn't buy this game. So much delay and freezing, it is just silly.
