What I like about playing......

TheScorpion
Absolutely nothing as once my free month was up, I can no longer play since Zenimax won't allow one time payments via prepaid credit cards and the prepaid companies don't allow reoccurring charges so now I'm stuck with and $80 game I can't play because Zenimax feels the need to have everyone's REAL credit card info. I have never been so pissed off at a company as this! Their email replies start with "Helping you is our passion!" yet they will absolutely do nothing for us who don't believe in owning credit cards. They suggest buying their prepaid game time cards at a cost of 50% more than I would pay on a 180 credit card purchased 'reoccurring' payment plan. The worst part of it is they gladly took the $80 from my prepaid cc to purchase the game initially without any mention that a different payment plan must be made to pay for subscriptions. Bought a $250 prepaid cc for the sole purpose of purchasing and attaching it to this game's subscriptions. I replied to one of their support emails asking them to call me for a onetime charge to the card for the sub and haven't heard back from them since! Customer service dodges the most important issue at hand, helping their customers buy and enjoy the game! I would bet money that the 7 days of not hearing anymore from me will flag my issue as resolved. Every other game I play has been bought and supported via prepaid credit cards yet these guys think they are above that and don't feel the need to just take someone's money, they instead want part of their credit info to go with it. Totally BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can be wordy at times, but I learned a long time ago that no one is going to read a wall of text like this.

TL;DR version - ZOS is apparently unable to accept prepaid credit cards, and failed to help the OP in being able to pay to play the game past his first free month.

Must be hard to have a decent credit rating if you "Don't Believe in owning a Credit Card." Well, I guess maybe you dont care, because you probably are saving to pay all cash for your first home purchase.

The strategy of ONLY using the time cards....is EXACTLY what most gold farmers do when they need to start a new account. I am glad they require a real CC.

Paypal passes on the exact info of the reoccurring charge to the prepaid company so it's no different than directly using the card.

I called the prepaid company to verify they don't accept reoccurring payments - confirmed!

I called paypal to find out why it wouldn't go through there either and they told me they only 'middle' the transaction request so the 'reoccurring' is included when they try processing via the prepaid on my paypal account.

And I talked to ESO support both on the phone and via email, last being via email, I confirmed with ESO support the situation and now haven't heard back from them at all.

How hard is it for them to call me and manually process this over the phone as a one time payment or better yet, add an option for those who only use prepaid cc's when online....the cards are there for a reason.

I think you may be confused/overly paranoid about how much information companies are privy to when they charge your credit card. And if you use a pre-paid card to establish a balance on an actual PayPal account, I don't see what the issue would be.

I'm sorry if I am derailing the thread, but this is bugging me, as I believe strongly in e-commerce.

@TheScorpion‌ millions of people use credit cards online to purchase things everyday without having ID theft. I haven't seen any research, but I would venture to guess that its more likely for you to get robbed carrying cash at the gas station than having your ID stolen from an online cc purchase. On top of that, most times the CC company will not charge you. The gas station aint covering your lost cash.

Just curious as to what drives you to go through so much trouble to not pass any information online. Feels like you are trying to do a massive drug deal with ZOS...

The fact you don't 'believe' in CCs puts you outside the loop with many aspects of life. So what do you want from us, advice? Excellent suggestions given above.

BTW, tricky title, but your gambit was lost with that huge, unreadable wall of text.

Wow! Can't believe the ignorance some people can display! For your info, I am a retired old fart who would rather keep my retirement savings than risk the failure of some companies security system to have a breech that costs me the headaches and losses WHEN they get hacked. My personal line of credit is likely more than your net worth so keep your derogatory comments silent in that little pea brain of yours.

All I want to do is play the game I purchased!

In the past decade, the Playstation Network compromise is the only time that gamers' payment information was at risk, and even then, it really wasn't.

Hackers aren't dumb enough to try and compromise a company's computers (which police actually care about) when they would have a much easier time just infiltrating your system and taking the information directly.

Hence why I pay EVERYTHING online with prepaid cc's (except for ESO). My personal info isn't on my pc so they can look all they want.

My problem here is they took the initial game payment from the same card that won't allow reoccurring payments without first warning me that could happen and now ignoring me on top of it. It shouldn't matter to anyone my reason's for using prepaid cc's in this discussion, it's about stating an issue that preventing a paying customer from playing due to ESO's current way of doing business. Ignoring me after the fact doesn't validate good customer service! It's that simple and nothing more!

Your reasons do matter, because as mentioned above, pre-paid credit cards are the primary method of payment used by criminals trying to hack the game for RMT. A pre-paid credit card is far easier to fake/steal than a real card, and since they don't have to be registered under anyone's name, they're impossible to trace in the event of fraudulent charges. You have other options for payment, including game cards an PayPal. Your insistence on not using the options available to you is what has created this problem, not ZO's policies.

You totally missed the point here, they took from the prepaid card initially for the purchase of the game and required reoccurring payment info using that same prepaid card info without first warning me that reoccurring payment method won't work. I am not a financial professional, how was I to know this would become a problem AFTER making the initial $80 purchase. I likely would not have bought the game if I wasn't able to make paypal payments using the prepaid (which by the way PayPal has my info).

And yes, prepaid requires you to register them before you can use them for online purchases. They are tied to my name otherwise Paypal would not process them. I didn't post here to be slammed for my payment methods or called a criminal, I just want to play my game. It's their "Reoccurring Payment Plan" that is causing the problem and not just for me but holders of real credit cards as well. Instead of trying to twist what my thread is about why don't you look at the main page and read the ongoing thread there. geeesh, people or should I say thread trollers!

No one is calling/has called you a criminal. We're explaining why companies might choose to not accept pre-paid credit cards for recurring subscription payments, and we're also providing you with other options for payment. You have, so far, chosen to ignore every alternative presented due to your unwarranted concerns about your information being compromised via Zenimax's servers.

Having worked extensively in an eCommerce environment, I fully understand your frustration. What you have to remember however is that companies that deal with digital transactions have to follow strict Payment Card Industry (PCI) rules and guidelines. All companies have to be compliant with how they store the data they collect and pass along.

One thing also to consider is that prepaid credit card is a misnomer. It is not an actual credit card and does not operate in the same manner when passing along information when purchasing items online. This will of course vary from eCommerce business depending on their level of security and compliance.

My suggestion to you is to take that prepaid card and purchase a game time card and then apply that directly to your account.
  • TheScorpion
That was their suggestion that ticked me off to the point of ranting in the forums! I signed up for the 180 day subscription they initially approved in order to save money. Buying a game time card is not the option we formed the initial agreement with!

I do realize the extend and strictness of the policy they enter into to form their e-commerce site!.... this is why it is on their shoulders to make sure they comply and not on my shoulders to be spending my time making sure my payment method works. They accepted for the purchase without fully complying with those said rules and regulations to ensure the subscription payment will work after the fact. With no more responses back from CS on this issue, it make them as a company look like they took my money and ran. IMO Zenimax does not deserve to handle or associate itself with the TES name! They are not doing it any justice at all.
