As a Dragon Knight have you considered other classes?

As a bit of a n00b I always seem to roll DK's as they seem easiest to get off the ground. Sorceror is next best with the pets to act as decoys saving my butt etc.

Have tried Templars and Nightblades but never managed to progress them. Is there a mechanic I'm missing?

I am confused to what answer you are looking for..

Title indicates this is directed to DK's, but your final question is vague and also directed to the other classes? Can you clear this up a bit.

I just got my nightblade into VR, warlock style.
    I´m loving it.
The next one will be a templar.

I don´t know, maybe it´s just that different people like different things?

Templar and NB buffs seem like a very distant horizon for them. It's highly disappointing that NB's have gotten very little love for how long this game has been out of beta. The few buffs they have gotten are insignificant and almost laughable at how minute their power increase has gotten. Templars are very nearly on the same boat and are pretty much relegated to heal bots. Continue to play your DK, they are still, bar none, the best class out there in terms of utility, ease of use, dps, and support skills.

I have tried to make all the classes work but there is something clunky about all of them but melee DK. Probably why it's so popular 1-50.

Nightblade with light armor and resto staff is pretty decent too, but I have a hard time playing him for too long because I feel like he should be as advertised in the character creation. Dual weilding.

Sorry for the vagueness. When I play DK I just belt things melee style and use the magic abilities to knock stuff down then run around it, whaling on it for all the mouse is worth.

I have tried the Nightblade stealthy tactic and don't seem to be able to get it off the ground as I die too quickly. The Templar is similar as it doesn't have the crowd control early on and can't kill stuff fast enough.

So I guess I am looking for some pointers on how those classes approach the early game.

lets see my current roster is...

    V12 Nightblade AD (achievement ***/crafter toon/PvP ganker)
    V6 Dragonknight AD (main PvE)
    31 Sorc EP
    11 Temp AD
    3 DK DC
    3 Temp AD (mule)
    3 Sorc AD (mule)

Out of all of them, in solo play my NB was the easiest to level doing quests (because of being able to pretty much bypass everything except the bosses with medium armor/vampire boosted sneak + shadow cloak)

The DK is the strongest group character, but the sorc is gaining quickly.

The Templar is a dedicated healer/support planned build, but I wanted to get my cross faction toon up to snuff before I started work seriously on a third AD toon.

All in all every class across several specs seems like it can do what its supposed to do.

Nightblade requires an odd approach when engaging fights. I enjoy this however because it requires a bit more thinking then simply skill spamming in most cases.

I would add 1 skill from all three class lines to your bar when you start with the NB. That way you start to level all of them very early on. That will open a door for you to play with the different skills and see what fits you more. Be prepared to respect a few times as well.

I played an NB before I played a DK. DK has been a lot easier but gameplay experience accounts for some of that. I didn't really find NB that difficult to start off although I did play 1-49 as mainly a tanky NB using heavy armor and siphoning for self healing (I figured I could have blacksmithing for armor and weapons) and stealthing all the time is pretty slow and someone else always charges in from behind while you're lining up a shot, or some &*(^ing DK grabs them on a chain.
