How would you rate ESO overall?

I asked this question back in April to see what a fresh reaction was from the players.

It's now been a couple of months into the game, so I ask again.

Feel free to give a small review. Do you have a video review, please post it. I'd like to get feedback of what everyone thinks of the game so far.

Please no troll posts like ESO SUCKS! and no fanboi posts about how ESO is perfect.

Just an honest good points and bad points of ESO.

Bad points for me:

The Banking system is it too small. They lack of options on listings and being able to remember what items go to what character and what to not sell or destroy is pretty bad.

Guild stores need a revamp or need to go away. They charge too much. They do not have enough traffic to be really useful. The GUI for guild store is bad.

It is not a user friendly game. Very little in game GUI options. Almost anything that is helpful comes from addons. How lazy is ZOS to not add all these simple tools to ESO?

Way too many bugs. I beta tested this game for a year and there are still bugs in the game from the first day I played ESO.

The economy needs adjusting. 1 gold from kills the first 20 levels then it switches to 3 gold in the 30's. Seriously, this is just sad. Add to the fact the bank and repairs and horse cost so much at the low levels. Then you hit a point where all you do is collect gold. You go from constantly being poor to not knowing what to do with all your gold.

Good points:

Class system is really fun. It needs to balance the mana/stamina/health usage, but over all, I really enjoy the feel of the character and leveling it up. I like all the skill choices and the rock paper scissors feel to the game.

I like the combat system. It reminds me a little of the DDO combat system with a twist. While I feel the NPCs could be smarter in combat, overall I am happy.

Graphics in ESO are good. I like the way the world looks. I'm not thrilled with the bland NPCs, and the bland way the stand there and give out quests, but overall, the look of the game is the best i have seen in an MMO, IMHO.

Phasing of the boxes and other materials made the game much more user friendly.

Suggestions for the future:

Add more surprises into the game. Have random crap, good or bad, pop up and kick us in the ass to keep us on our toes. Have one of the gods announce a contest to find a special treasure in the land. Have a random giant monstrous creature attack a town or a horde of monsters. Have a random circus travel from town to town with player contests for us to spend gold (gold sink) and win silly prizes.

Add dueling to the game.

Let us swim underwater, you know, like Earth. Let us randomly find a chest underwater, or a dungeon entrance.

Bring back live help chat. It would be nice to have a GM in game to help us.

Make a Developers thread and ask us what we want in the game. Don't ever close that thread. Read it. Read it again. Every so often, send an email poll to every player and have them vote on what game options they would like to see based on the thread.

Don't depend on players to make up for all your shortcomings in the user friendly department. Add all the choices for us in game instead of hoping players will find enough addons to make us happy with your game. I can not tell you how many times I have talked to frustrated players because they can't do this or that in ESO, and then they are told there might be an addon for that and they are happy there is an addon and pissed it was not already in the game as an option.

I'd give ESO a 5 out of10 atm.

If they fix the bugs, banking and other annoying stuff, I would give a higher rating because really I do like the game, but I log out way too many times in frustration.

This was the first thread back then, incase you want to see your old answers. ;)

    Good points for me:

    - Crafting is pretty fun and in-depth.
    - Max crafting has better base stats than loot, giving it some value.
    - The freedom of choosing what weapon and armor I want to use is a refreshing change.
    - The graphics are beautiful.
    - Quest progression and voice acting are really top notch, with plenty of interesting characters thrown in with normal joe types.
    - 1-50 content and main questline ended up really drawing me in and making me feel special and heroic.
    - Character customization is pretty detailed and capable.
    - The number of skill lines, weapon skills, etc ... leave many options for making the character you want to play.
    - Five guilds mean I can have multiple social groups to involve myself in, instead of one lonely group of roleplayers like usual.

    Bad points for me:

    - Crafting is generally useless due to gear drops, just like every other MMO.
    - Being a crafter, your inventory is soaked with mats, making playing difficult.
    - They should have went with a skill focused game, with no levels and quests spanning zones, and all monsters being about the same difficulty.
    - There's no reason I shouldn't be able to use any sword or axe, if I loot it. Leveled gear is a bad game design principle for a game with soft-caps.
    - Veteran content has left me feeling like I have to go to work, so instead of focusing on getting to max rank I've started making more characters.
    - There needs to be more character options for tattoos.
    - There's no recustomization ability.
    - There's no housing. Seriously, loses two points for just that.
    - Balance issues are more severe the higher you get in levels, with melee and heavy/medium armor users taking the brunt of the negative.
    - Guilds have no backbone, with no customization options, no tags, no tabbards, no icon, no guild house, no guild quests or even guild crafting assignments. They are just a chat channel and extra bank.
    - Grouping is absolutely horrid, as players should be able to group regardless of level, rank, or what stage of the quest we are in. Group play should be the priority, not phase and immersion.

    Biggest winners for me?

ESO has a ton of lore and dedication to the immersion of the game, giving it the capability to go a long time and keep many roleplayers and immersion-characters involved. The voice acting, character customization, and storyline all do a great job in supporting this world.

    Biggest losers for me?

No housing to start. Veteran content is a real chore and not very entertaining, as players begin dreading the next combat encounter instead of looking forward to the next story sequence. And the grouping mechanics are so restrictive there's almost no reason to group outside of dungeons and pvp.

    Overall rating?

7/10, with the game getting an 8 the moment they let me group up with others, and 10/10 if they ever add a decent housing system.
Ruze Aulus. Mayor of Dhalmora. Archer, hunter, assassin. Nightblade.
Gral. Mountain Terror. Barbarian, marauder, murderer. Nightblade.
Na'Djin. Knight-Blade. Knight, vanguard, defender. Nightblade.

Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

    - Crafting is pretty basic and unbalanced
    - Dungeons are next to useless. Pre-50 you get a slim chance to enter one before you out-level it and there is no reason to do one again.
    - While there is a certain amount of freedom in the weapons and armour you can use, if you aren't using a staff and light armour then you're pretty much gimping your build
    - The graphics are mostly pretty good, but some of the textures are downright awful.
    - The questing and stories are enjoyable
    - The bots are awful
    - The game-breaking, main-story quest bugs are awful
    - Inventory management is prehistoric
    - Character look customisation is pretty basic. Lots of sliders, barely any difference. Few beards. Basic hair.
    - Some good voice acting and some awful voice acting. Tree. No!
    - Too few skills
    - Awful guild store
    - Utterly unresponsive interface & gameplay. Often hammering keys in the hope a skill will respond eventually.
    - Softcaps hit way too easily with basic equipment
    - 99% solo play for the first part of the game, then a total switch
    - Very little variety
    - No in-game GMs (apart from maybe 15 minutes a month)
    - Massive amounts of goldseller spam
    - The chains are a joke

    Overall a 4/10
Style over substance and very, very buggy.

I'd give it about a 7.0 out of 10 as it currently stands. A bit above average but nothing super-duper awesome either.

I enjoy the game for what it is, I look forward to what it might become and I don't bemoan what it's not. Maybe it's because I do view it as "just a game" or because I take my time and play it as such (in since early access, highest character is level 37) but I don't see the same issues that seem to inspire such rage in many posters. If it isn't fun to play, then don't play. Life's too short to get all worked up over a few bits and bytes. Ultimately I feel I get my money's worth and I'm quite eager to see where the game goes.

    Pros
    • Lack of screen clutter
    • Enough exploration to make doing so fun
    • Non-group groups (you know where you meet someone else doing the same sort of tasks and you just kind of team up without actually forming a group)
    • Crafting gear that's actually useful
    • Some nice graphics for an MMO
    • Combat is not stationary and rotational.

    Cons
    • Many of the players, to be honest. If it's not fun just leave, no need to vent like a spoiled child. Unless you are one, in which case...still no need.
    • Bots/spam
    • Only the one main quest for all characters. I was spoiled by SW: TOR and despite how bad that game turned the individual character stories were a reason to make 8 different characters.
    • The difference in leveling different crafts. Enchanting is a *** to level.

    About a 7/10 here too.

Lots of folks have listed pros and cons already, many of which I agree with. Main reason for my score would be that I find the game very enjoyable, and it's the most engaging MMO I've played in a while (literally the only one where I've actually paid attention to the quests for this long). However, it still has issues to work out. It has bugs, it has balancing issues, and it really does need to work on offering up different ways to level, or making the Veteran levels more fun. I personally enjoy them, but I know many who aren't as excited.

better than average mmo experience for a launch title.

Aside from the art style, lore and storyline, ESO is probably the worst Elder scrolls experience to date. The recipe that makes an Elder scrolls game into a hearty stew was not followed properly, and instead ESO has the consistency of a water-based soup, where some of the ingredients have been left out. it still tastes good, but fails to satisfy fully.

this is my subjective opinion of course, nothing more.

7/10 for me. I LOVED 1-50. VR is a different story. Pun intended.

The VR zones are killing subscriptions like a bug zapper in a swamp.
Many people are not enjoying VR content because they find it-

Way too difficult to be fun. Challenging dungeons and group objectives are fine. But trash mobs that kill you in 2 seconds if you make one mistake? Not so much.
    Redundant.
    Immersion breaking.
    Unrewarding
Too dependant on questing. VR dungeons offer ok xp, but try VR BC with a pug and get back to me.
And the big one-Inbalance! Stamina builds do not even come close to magicka builds. The "play your own way" sales pitch is outlandishly untrue.

Then there are tons of lite things like -

No search function or detailed sale notification on the guild store. This is a real head scratcher. I mean, really?
Not being able to complete or share quests with friends or spouses.
Getting shredded by VR-12 players in Cyrodiil. The list goes on.

All that being said, I still give it a 7\10 because the game has fun combat, outstanding graphics, wonderful lore, and a great foundation. There is still huge potential here if they can right the ship before it sinks.

The MAIN problems in this game are pretty glaring and contradict what MMO's are about, and that is GROUPING/ENDGAME/REWARDS.

Grouping pre-50 is pointless and unrewarding. It's a complete waste of time. This is an MMO, so how did the game developers not think this was important? Make grouping actually worth it!

Endgame is lacking. Veteran ranks were a terrible idea that is driving players away. Also there is nothing to do once VR12. Cyrodil is not the end all be all rvr system that they were striving for like Daoc's rvr system.

The game lacks rewards. There aren't enough incentives for people to do things other than solo quest and craft. Alliance points are worthless. Dungeon loot and exp is mediocre. World bosses will just drop 2 gold. Every mob you kill drops only 2 gold. Dark anchors are pointless. There is nothing that promotes grouping.

There are numerous other problems like class balance, bugs, etc. but those can be sorted out eventually. These problems I've listed are the main reasons why this game has gotten such negative press.

but the world is beautiful, and the combat is fun, even if you only have 5 abilities + 1 ultimate. And the quests can be engaging every now and then, other times you will get the same regurgitated story line and you will hear the same, very recognizable voice actor, perhaps even multiple times on different npcs in the very same quest, which really kills the immersion.

    overall: 6/10

fix those main problems and this game could be so much better.

    Launch. 5/10. Follow up... 2/10.

Things are still broke. Still no end game, no end game in sight. At this point if you aren't at least vet 1... you probably don't care about any end game content or broken skills and never will.

They have next to zero communication. When a game breaking bug comes along and all they can say is "we're aware of the problem" over and over again, you get the feeling that they just don't care.

Games come and go. This one is adrift on fire and sinking. I'm still paying 30k to swap morphs when I'm in a PVP mood. My class (NB) is more sorcerer than a sorcerer. Templars heal, and thats all.

They've had two months to set things right and the promise of an eventual thieves guild isn't enough. When and if it does come I'm still going to have to dish out 30k to swap out skills.

I'll keep it short, this would have been a very awesome gameplay experience if it were a single player Elder Scrolls game having 3 different viewpoints and alternate endings. Playing in VR 8 and 9 zones, it very much is a single player Elder Scrolls game with a few individuals here and there. You could have scripted random NPC's to pull some weight out there to helping you out in the same line as a random player showing up to do his/her thing and leave like they were never there.

Overall it should have just been a Single Player Elders Scrolls game with an optional multiplayer mode kind of like Diablo 2 style of gameplay. Ironically it has turned into Diablo 2 but instead of repeated Baal runs or Cow farming, its the same Anomalies in a repeating pattern with fancier waypoints.

5/10. Not going to go into a list. It just feels like extended beta for console release (they can't have it in this state on a console no way). I wouldn't mind the current state if it was actually still in beta. Just sucks that we're paying for it. But I consider it an investment and am trying to be patient. most of the time though it's like watching an HD movie on a b/w tube TV.
