Strange sounds at random times...

occasionally, when playing, this sound starts playing- it sounds kind of like a barking dog being pushed into a metal cage, or something along those lines. It's never coming from any particular direction, and it happens in every zone, from Khenarthi's Roost to Reaper's March. I wish I knew what this sound was intended to be, so that maybe it wouldn't bother me so much.

I guess it is the sound of (a piece of) heavy armor you are wearing. When you fall on the ground it makes this sound.

no, that's not it. it happens when I'm not even moving, and armor doesn't bark.

Better record it. You have more clues? How long, how loud, details, one character, just anything you can think of pls.

That is what happens if either the soundcard, the soundcard drivers or the soundfiles are damaged.
If it's the files, try a repair scan. If it's the drivers, try cleanly deinstalling/reinstalling them. If it is the soundcard - only replacing helps.

it's definitely not that. it doesn't sound like it's broken or like anything's corrupted, it just sounds out of place among everything else, like it doesn't belong there.

I'll see if I can get a recording of it during my play session this time. it seems like it only happens inside safe areas like large cities.

edit: as a side note, there's never a set amount of time that it goes on for. sometimes it's a few seconds, but if I stand still, it can go on for a few minutes.

my boyfriend said that it sounds like the dog that's caged up in Mistral. that would make sense, except that this was recorded in Grahtwood, and it happens in every zone.

Yes, that definately is an out of place sound. Did you try a game file repair in the launcher? It also might be a very rare bug, where the wrong ambient sound keeps playing. Sounds annoying indeed.

Best sollution might be to make a ticket for game support and link to your recording.

I have a similar thing; an ambient sound that sometimes plays in the background and has absolutely nothing to do with the quest I am on or the area I am in. It doesn't sound anything like yours, though. Mine is more darker and makes me think of a huge factory filled with hard working slaves. I can see it belonging to an area in Coldharbor.

It could be a tigers sound. There are quite a few sence tigers in the Bosmer areas and they sound kinda similar to dogs:

doesn't explain why it happens in Khenarthi's Roost or Auridon, but it would explain why it exists in the game. I think I'll ask customer support and see if they know anything.

There are a few sence tigers in KR. On the plantages in particular. One of the quests even deals with them being out of action.
Auridon might have a few too.

You meet a lot of cats in the Adlmery dominion, and I mean not only Kajiit.

well, I can't see the sugarbelly-afflicted senche in Khenarthi's Roost making any of those sounds, and don't forget about the cage (I assume it's a cage) in the background as well.
