Decon everything, or guild bank it?

I'm a VR1 clothier / metalworker who wears their own stuff.

Up till now, any unwanted quest rewards, loot or armour that I have outgrown, I deconstruct in the hope of gaining tempers. Looted items also give me craft XP, though there are other ways of getting that.

However, I'm wondering if this is the best policy.

It seems a temper only comes off an item 25%-30% of the time, and I probably get more from my miner hireling and from processing raw materials (smelting ingots, making cloth and treating leather).

Since I'm member of a social guild, would it be better if we all just dumped these unwanted items in the guild bank, and rather than craft a blue item from scratch, people can pull a green item with the correct traits from the bank and improve it to blue. Will save ingots at least.

Furthermore, deconstructing my cast off clothing is probably wasteful. It yields next to no xp since I made it myself, and doesn't give a temper very often. Better to put it in the guild bank , where it might serve someone else? After all, who doesn't want a pair of sweaty used greaves that some nubile young elf chick has been running around in for 2 levels?

Honestly, it probably depends on the situtation.

I belong to a guild whose sole purpose is to help members learn equipment traits. Pretty much most of my stuff I don't use for research and has a trait applied to it goes to the bank in the hopes some other member can put the trait to good use.

But at the same time I belong to another "social" guild and the guild bank is locked from withdrawals by all but the highest members. Donating such items to this group is actually a bit of a waste as few members can access it.

The reality is at some point you can just get a feel for what is worth deconstructing, turning over to vendor trash, or giving away to others. Just seems like at some point in the VR levels that picking up Green or White items when you maxed out your research and can get the resources in other ways is simply a waste of your time and baggage space.

    My methodology;
Preface: I belong to an open bank crafting guild (take what you need, put stuff back in)and a closed bank trading guild.

Anything that has a trait I sell in in my Trading Guild for the suggested list price(everyone else price gouges so I sell quickly), anything that is plain or bound I decon. Use all my raw matts for temper grinding, make some daggers/belts and throw them in the craft guild bank for other people to use along with my unused refined mats.

I sell all white items, if they are green and sell for 40gp or more I sell them, less than 40gp I decon them for upgrade items. I decon all blue and purple items for the chance at an upgrade item.

If you are wanting to help out crafters in the guild you belong to, craft items out of the extra mats you have laying around rather than selling them for 400gp to vendor or 500-600 in a guild store. The inspiration they will gain from your crafted items will be much higher.

There are very few green items worth retaining, a few set pieces if you are going for non crafted sets, but other than those they are better off being sold and I used crafted sets so I don't need any of the drops.

I took one rank in Temper Expertise, and get 3-10 tempers per unload after breaking everything down. I can fill my pack several times per night of play, so for me its a bigger haul than the hirelings.

The stuff I made myself I only break down if the key stone is rare (Copper, Palladium, etc) and I want to try and get those back. Otherwise, I just sell for gold.

I almost always get a green temper when deconning green gear (which is why I only sell the gear that is 40gp or higher, because I can sell the green tempers for 35-40gp.

I get blue from most blues, which is why I always decon blue items, since they don't sell for much more than green.

Same for purple though I get tempers less often, but I don't have much purple gear so it's hard to say.

Take a snapshot of the set-gear and send it off to Castielle in the forums. I think he'd appreciate it as he's trying to compile lists of what's in the sets for one of the wikis.

I tend to sell white items, any named set I sell for not much. then I decon the rest. Mats tend to go into my guilds bank anyway as I don't need them. I only mainly craft BS stuff so keep 100-200 ore of those. If I started doing clothier I'd maybe stock 100 mats of the level I needed.

Tempers once I hit 100 I sell the others in stacks of 10 through a trading guild for 500g each and never have any issue selling.

I deconstruct basically everything. Sometimes if it's a Superior or Epic item I will see if a friend would like it or on - the rare occasion - I will try and sell it, but if not; I'll deconstruct it.

Personally I think filling up a guild bank or otherwise with items that may or may not be useful is largely a waste of space. If it's useful right now in some way; wonderful! If not, sell it or deconstruct away.

For too many years in too many MMOs I've seen too much equipment put into any number of vaults/banks/etc in good faith that other players/guild-mates/etc will use them, but instead it just festers and rots in a dark corner.

So you're saying that putting the odd item for a set into a guild bank is less useful than I was hoping?
I'd hoped/assumed that some of it was getting used by people completing a set, though I accept that there are some scallywags who just decon/sell it for profit.

You burn through equipment too quickly in this game, excepting the VR levels and even those go pretty quick if you put your mind to it.

Green gear just clutters up the bank, if you are wanting to help out crafters or other players, make daggers, belts or bows for people to decon...

If the green item is sells for less than 40gp, you should decon it for tempers, blue items and higher should also be deconned, though there are some VR+ purples worth selling, Dominion gear for example (which is desirable regardless of quality).

Well, I think the exact usefulness varies on a case by case basis, depending upon the item itself and also the guild/etc you're a part of. But that's just been my experience in the past: Stuff tends to accumulate and just sit there. Another way around such a problem is having some people keep an active eye on the bank and remove the items that have been hanging about for two weeks or so. If done diligently that can also keep things more manageable, from my experience. It's really a matter of finding out what works best for you/your-guild.

Unless your guild is composed entirely of real life friends: Don't ever put anything of value in a guild bank... just don't. It's a horrible game mechanic, it's a bad deal. And the thieves who rip you off will smile and say "it's for the good of the guild, buddy!" And if you don't "see it their way" they'll get uppity and pissed, and invite you to leave the guild.

It's never happened to me, but I've seen exactly this situation happen to others.

Personally I sell anything of white quality that I pick up while questing, deconstruct anything of green/blue/purple quality if I'm not going to use it, and send any trait stones or racial stones or materials that I dont need to my guild bank for other guild crafters to use.
