I wish ESO had Inns like The Witcher

ESO's inns are just... dull. They lack atmosphere. You just get in talk to the quest guy and get out. Yeah you hear the music stay for a couple of minutes but not more than once because there isn't any variety at all.

Now notice i gave an example The Witcher. I don't know about you guys but i spent countless hours in the inns there. Just listening to that awesome music, playing minigames, fist fighting in a shady corner underground, etc.

Wish ESO had something just like that. I wanna have a drink with my buddies, do some arm wrestle, challange a random guy to a fist fight just cause i hate his armor(haha) and do mini games like lore specific chess, darts and other things... I hvent played other Elder Scrolls game before so i don't know if the others had them.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think while you listen to this :pensive:

    Of course they are dull.

You know what would kind of people that would visit inns and have conversations with each other, making it seem much more lively?

    Roleplayers.

You know what game has driven away pretty much every roleplayer that wanted to play the game because there are no features to support them such as chat bubbles?

    Elder Scrolls Online.

This is all Zenimax fault and they bloody well deserve it. There are plenty of things we wish was in the game and they could have made it happen. But no, they decided against this type of subscription base. So what you get now is only grinders, botters, multi-boxers, people that are fed up with veteran ranking and PvPers getting sick of lag. Enjoying your time at an inn... Hahaha... Yeah enjoy looting the trunks and then run out of there fast as hell.

Yes. I agree. More focus should have been put on atmosphere.

I agree. I would like to see in future some special Inns or other places where RP players could meet. Though Inns look to have the biggest potential to entertain ;-)

That is part of how the overall game looks like. Some time in beta there were rumours that this game cost 200 mil dollars, but I do think it cost about 40.
The only point of this game are voiced dialogues and background music, all of the rest is pure themepark MMO (with duplicated dungeons for example).
Regarding inns - there are static NPC sometimes saying some random sentence - just how much different it is from Skyrim / Oblivion where many NPC could walk from homes (where they slept at night) to Inns. In Witcher it is actually also not so good - just people talk much more with stronger language and it creates special atmosphere, so initially Inns look better, but soon you find out they are similar boring places with static NPCs - still you can spent there few hours, while in ESO you just run through every inn.
There is a lot of potential for minigames (there are few broken quests for minigames in Reaper's March) and RP - just imagine you could reserve a table and order drinks etc - there are plenty of possibilities.

It looks like they concentrated on pure MMO racers type players - may be those who like lightbringer/Mia'q type quests are minority in this game.

Let's rush Craglorn before new MMO releases which focuses on raiding so we can keep raiders. Let's make the game evolve around Veteran Ranks or even around end-gamers. There are so many games out there which gives a fast boost and endless raiding and PvP possiblities at highest rank.

I was honestly thinking the developers will focus on more variety such as little games, fun fishing, taverns and inns which full of RP atmospheres. Making the journey more fun and not a rushfest to end-game. Pity it turned out to be another MMO which tries to be same MMO with no difference than tens of its copies.

I played more than 2 months so far and didn't see a single person who interacts because simply they don't need to do so or socialise with me. Such a waste of places these taverns. Could be a great fun place, we interact, play together; that was developers' duty to make people interact each other. Ther are many tools for PvP, PvE players can press a button and sort a group. It is obvious RP gamers Money is not valuable as PvX players.

That game you linked even i didn't hear before really sounded interesting and tempting. I will definetely try it out as soon as my sub expires. I want to play a game because it is fun, not to rush to end game and join raids or PvP. I am just sad, what a big opportunity being lost.

I don't think chat bubbles make or break RP. I have seen roleplaying in EVE, SWTOR, DDO and other MMO's that don't have chat bubbles.

I have often enough seen people on these forums demanding that they need X and Y to roleplay and they can't RP without it.

These are things you need for RP:
    • A setting.
    • Characters.
    • A way to chat to each other.
    Everything else is just bonus.

If you want to RP find an RP guild, create one or start a forums thread about people and events. If people can RP in EVE Online, IRC, Jabber and even Skype chat I think you can RP here.

This sort of fun, fantasy world inn/socialising and minigame hub would have been great!

    Too late now, RIP.

It's not too late I think for Zenimax to add roleplay features to the games and I really hope they will focus a lot on it with the coming content patches. Inns like in the Witcher would be great, the music is already there, loving the bards in the inns in the game now. Usable chairs besides the /sitchair emote, /e chat emotes only seen within 10 meters radius (no need for chat bubbles, text already is shown over the player controlled characters that say them, you just need to aim your mouse at them to see it).

A lot of roleplaying option can be added and it is never too late to do that, at least not until you shut down the game, only then it would be too late.

The game has just been released, is still brand new and has many routes it could take. This is just one of many and one I hope they take into account.

Small, but slightly related request: please make it so that when 3 people do /lute /flute /drum that they form a coherent song. Not sure if it is hard to implement, but would be nice. :)

First I just want to see innkeepers dropping clues about quests you haven't completed in the zone, like in Skyrim. Would be nice for completionists like myself.

Errr... Exactly. Not sure where you disagree with me. Elder Scrolls have the setting, it has the characters but it does not have a way to chat to each other - you have absolutely no idea what character on your screen said what if you look at your chat menu. You can whisper, but you still wont know if the character whispering is on the other side of the zone or standing in front of you. Sure you can chat with other players in ESO but you cannot stand in an inn and chat too each other.

Chatting in ESO is the eqvivalent of yelling across the dance floor at a rave party.

Its communication, its just that no one hear what you say.

You din't hear of The Witcher?? You should defenetly try both of them (3rd one coming soon). I won't start a wall of text saying how good it is. It's not a MMO it's just singleplayer RPG. You will love it.

And most importantly, nude trading cards. That is much more important then some crappy atmosphere in some silly bar.
