I was just thinking after getting done with a nice long eso session today. Saw a ton of bots out there and it made me think. Why? Sure they can sell the stuff they gather or craft stuff to sell or even just to have a unlimited amount a materials but again, why? It takes all the fun out of any game. I hate gold spamming but that makes more sense the bots. Maybe I just don't understand it all but it seems pointless to me. It makes laugh.

Why does anyone have bots collecting stuff while they are at work or wherever. Someone who can use a bot I doubt is gonna actually play through the game like a normal gamer. Right? I am trying to understand. Please anyone who has done this with other games that will admit to it please tell me why.

Where do you thing the gold selling sites get their money? These aren't "normal gamers", and they are not people using bots to collect stuff "while they are at work". It's the %$#@! gold selling sites.

I have never botted. It's generally what people do to farm lots and lots of gold. They then take this gold and sell it to lazy worthless players for real money. It's not morally right; I think it's illegal, but it brings home the bacon for somebody out there.

Afai can see there are two types of 'botter',

There's the 'want it now' kid that can't tell the difference between winning and cheating, who bought a bot program to level his character to end game and will get bored shortly after.
And there's the 'professional' botter who works in a third-world sweat shop trying to chisel some cash out of the western economy.

I don't think you'll ever get rid of either. They both breed like flies.

There are many 'normal' players who use bots, RMT aren't the bot writers main customers, you know!

Many bots ARE used by players "while there are at work". It shouldn't be surprising that in a game where highly desirable items are locked behind horrible grinds, made worse by the nerfs in the face of rampant botting, that some players resort to using such tools.

Take Motifs, these are largely beyond the reach of most players now and some people are so intent on wearing crappy looking gear like Daedric they'll bot the Motif of the gold to buy it. Or, they want to get a complete set of Gold items so they'll bot the resources to get the Tempers.

Or, they want a level-cap character but the days of grinding to get there isn't what they do .. so they run a bot while watching Netflix: they say so, bot forums have many comments from non-RMT and in ESO some botting is so easy that unless you want to get really greedy and use some of the blatant hacks, you can use a bot that'll grind XP for you and be entirely un-remarkable so the chances you'll get reported are close to zero .. and in any case, as we clearly see, ZOS largely ignore reports anyway.

Gold sellers use bots to get all that shiny gold they sell.

Some players use bots to level for them, some to gather mats, others to farm gold.

They do it for their own reasons. Not everyone enjoys "playing the game" the way you do.

The obvious bots, yes, but there are others out there who like rushing to end-game on multiple characters ... just to do it I suppose. Lots of hacks out there facilitate it, and we see posts like these (from a popular hack/botting forum):
    A little more info:
    - I already use MMO[hack name removed], which I love, but it helps me more in XP than gold, and I want to be able to choose which I want to bot for based on circumstances. Like I'm lv 41 on my main, I'm going to keep botting until VR1, but I also tend to spend gold like a teenage girl with a credit card, I'm often broke and need gold frequently due to my spending habits, is [hack name removed] a safe way to go?
Someone boasting of using a teleporting and no-clip hack in PvP:
Yeah. Guessing they won't survive long, but work great ATM.
Also a big fan of stalking noobs in PvP by porting around.
Combined with the dodge hack, I am having a blast.
There are many other examples including one cat who bragged about leveling ten bots to Level 50, but yeah ... some folks just like to cheat.
