I would just like to say that I gladly payed for my copy of the game and will gladly pay 15 dollars a moth sub. There will be people that say this is stupid, but I feel they are telling themselves lies. I personally cannot afford to play a "f2p" game effectively. The term free to play is actually a very cute marketing scheme. They lure masses of players in and expose them to cash shop goodies that they can purchase so they "look super rad shiney" like all the other fools that pay for cosmetic crap. Also they may keep massive portions of their games hidden behind a pay wall. Another way free to play games get you is they sell exp buffs that last like 30 days, usually they run like 10 to 15 bucks. You know what that is, champions of this free to play garbage being spewed in zone chat???? Its a sub.

Well , that is the way F2P works mate and many games dont have the option.

Usually they lose too many subs , then the men in suit tell the devs to change to F2P because it usually gives much more money.

Still , the F2P and the P2P gamers are different , reason so many already said they will leave the game if it becomes F2P.

@Nox_Aeterna It would be sickening if a company and a game with a name like this went f2p. I personally dont think it will ever happen. Just the morons that think it should need to go play a dozen or so f2ps and then see how many nice things they have to say about just how free it is.

Some f2p games even go so far as to sell gear etc. To be competitive in a free to play game, 99.9% of the time you need to spend some money or your just not going to be in the top tier. Also with a "free to play", (wait lets just stop calling a turd a candy bar, they are cash shop games) you have a cash shop icon 99% of the time flashing advertisements and constantly destroying immersion and story-line by reminding you that you can buy some new crappy costume that isn't lore friendly with your wife's maxed out credit card.

Mate , after something with an IP like Star Wars going F2P , i believe anything can happen.

I prefer something like GW2 , with the B2P , more than the current subs/month , but money for games is not an issue to me , so it does not present that much of a difference.

If this all weren't bad enough, with a typical cash shop ran f2p you are swarmed with a mass of scrubs that are undedicated to the game acting like jackasses and running auto hotkey or just bieng rude little asses anyway. I really don't care about the bots though. They are in every game and if you want to lie to yourself then gg, y u mad because some loser scrub is botting more phat lewts than you dude? To help the naysayers with the bot problems, Get over it. Play the game and enjoy it and don't get butt hurt because some loser is getting away with being a scumbag. That is like quitting on your life because dirtbags get away with cheating taxes. The main cause of any issue in regards to bots in MMO's is the garbage player base. No one is to blame for the bots other than the scrubs and tools that use their credit cards to purchase the pixel property of someone else. How *** is that. I want this piece of gear so I'll buy it with my credit card. I guess I don't understand scrub mentality because ever since i was still loosing baby teeth I was grinding attunements in WoW. But here we are at the cusp of quite possibly the greatest MMO of all time, that has the most potential in the world. Like sereously. If any game has the chance to break the cycle of nausiating crap this one does. So don't be *** and even think that a "free to play" model would work here, cause let me tell you the majority of us can't afford free to play.

I've played a few FTP games like Tera, Warframe, Neverwinter, etc. I have never run into the pay wall. I NEVER spend money on FTP games. In Tera, you can buy the XP boosts, faster mounts, and cosmetics, but you can also buy those from other players for obscene amounts of coin. It isn't a big deal and doesn't make playing for free a lie. It isn't a P2W scenario. I can still top the battleground without ever spending money. Neverwinter seems the same way, though I haven't put the kind of time into that as I did in Tera. Warframe just has a few weapons that you have to buy, but they aren't even that good. F2P doesn't seem to hurt anything, it just keeps my bank account more full.

I wonder if they would even have the ability to turn this into Free to Play? I would bet Bethesda would have covered that in any licensing of the franchise, and they have a definite steak in the overall long term quality of the product.

Well, this game should have launched as a Buy-To-Play game. The quality is simply not up to subscription standards. The six month (minimum) delay of the Console launch proves that point. They could have made plenty of money selling non Pay-To-Win items. Probably to late to save the PC version of the game; but maybe not to late to save the Console versions.

I love this game, bugs and all. I have complaints about me that I like everything and blah blah blah.

The second they go free-to-play, I leave. And I am NOT alone in that.

One of the main reasons why I followed this game so closely and decided to play it, was the subscription. Cause if the company is good and have plans, works with the game. Both fixes and expand. Then I have dont waste my time.

Free-to-play games.....complete waste of my time. No security what so ever in what will happen in 3 months or even 3 days. And "free" games seams to attract the type of player with 0 patience.

I like at least some of my group members to be able to speak in complete words, dont ragequit when we wipe. The list is long.

I do not see this game go free to play based on the development and work that Zenimax is doing.

@PVT_Parts the only reason you didn't see botting was because those games aren't using mega servers for one. Tera for example, wich i played and exploited myself has many servers split up and divided where as here we have ONE for the whole entire North American continent. So yes you are more liable to run in to a bot now and then here. And topping the battle ground doesn't mean anything. I'm talking about grinding out things like Visionmaker gear in Tera since you used that for an example. You only get so many dungeon entrances a day. UNLESS you pay 15 dollars extra you get double. That gear is tip top for PvE my man, your prolly gonna want that. Prolly better than what most of the PvP guys use. So it could take you a year maybe to grind out a full set of that stuff on your own without paying if that probly over a year lol. Or about 3 months if you pay a sub. Make a difference in how competitive you can be? I would say so.

Anyone can do some searching and look up vids and info on how many more western companies are cashing in on the eastern concept of the F2P game.

I honestly don't feel it works over here in the west. We have a different concept and feel to our gaming.

I have played my share of F2P games. Some are good (like they allow you to hit max level but with a fair number of restrictions) and some are plain bad (only level 10, with so many restrictions you have no choice to drop cash in order to enjoy the game).

The way they have TESO, I feel they planned it to not be a F2P game, and I would be very disappointed if it fell to be one.

This game is 2 years away from F2P at LEAST. Quit worrying about it, you will know whether or not this game is worth it by then.

I have experienced both P2P and F2P and prefer to pay monthly subs so at least I know how much money the game costs me. If a F2P game is limited to paying for cosmetic items that doesn't affect the balance of the game then I see little problem i.e. I spent real money in EQ2 for housing and cosmetic items such as furniture or costumes - none of which affected the game play.

However there are F2P games where you can buy enhancements and this makes the game unfair to those who cannot afford all the gear so there is an element of poor man/rich man syndrome.

P2P on the other hand keeps things on an even keel so everyone has the chance to get to the top if they are prepared to grind/play to reach it.

This is quite possibly the most honest and unbiased response to my blatantly biased post. Your last little snippet there most likely sums up my feelings best, a game should be a about who is willing to work and play it not pay for it.

free to play is incredibly expensive if you plan to make the game your "main" game. Where you raid and spend most of your free time etc.

Free to play works on mobas and things like that IMO but NOT in MMOs. Only free to play could have ruined Neverwinter for me - a game that I was waiting for and drooling over much longer than this one. I am a huge DnD fangirl and Neverwinter was is my favorite.

in star wars i cant even play 5 pvp matches without having to pay for more lol. all big dungeons are behind paywalls.
i saw someone writing the weapons of warframe which u need to buy arent good... dude penta isnt good ? u didnt play warframe

i only had bad experience with free to play games i know many people who spended alot more on this games than in p2p games.

actually even in gw2 u had to pay .. not just for cosmetics but u need to know gw2 is a huge grindfest if u dont pay. grinding months or a year for a *** weapon aint fun. it probably got worst with the last patches/dlc

at a p2p model designers and programmers can work constantly on the game to improve it without worry about the money much ( the better work the more money they get becouse the more people will subscribe)

b2p supports them at the beginning so they can immadiately work on the next dlc to get more money. but in the time in between the dlcs they dont have the money so probably less people work on it and the dlc wont be as great becouse of that. i see there a downward spiral. in the end they will try to grab money like in f2p games.

f2p is a crime against gamers. at the beginning of every f2p game u have fast success and that makes u happy and keep u playing then they go set a paywall infront of u and are like " u pay here for enjoying the game like u do now or u will just suck " everything in a f2p game that gets released is up to grab ur money in some wicked ways. btw more gold sellers in f2p models than in any other.

Free to Play has changed a bunch over the years. And some of them do it very fairly. For example the game I played directly before this, Marvel Super Heroes is a diablo type game based on the Marvel Universe. It is F2P you can play the whole game for free. Everything. Unlocking characters can be done in time for Free. But they do sell costumes and boost.

If i were to play a free to play game it has to be that way. but even that after time gets old, and I end up feeling gouged. Because I like cosmetics, and sooner or later you realize, they will never release cosmetics because they have to sell those to stay a float.

I get it, there are people that play the free to play games and never spend a dime. But honestly those games weren't made for you. I suppose you are the same thing a store considers the people who just come in and buy the sale items and leave. They don't really care about you, they want the people actually spending money.

Explain me something. You are saying you have to pay $10 to $15 for "extra" stuff that should be in the game in a F2P game and right there is the monthly subscription fee, thing is, isn't this a one time purchase? So in a year instead of paying $150+ you only pay the extra $10 to $15 and then that's it.

This is my first MMO where I paid. I did have GW but never played it much so I am not sure what you are really trying to say. I don't get where paying $150 a year is better than paying $15 a year.

I don't think it will go F2P, can you imagine all the bots roaming then? They would have to change a lot of systems to support that.

I think there's a bigger chance the game will go B2P, or simply shut down. I honestly don't think the game will be released for Xbox/PS, 6 months is a enourmous long time, and there will be almost no players by then.

It's not like the developers sit at meetings and discuss how they can make the game worse, or how they make sure noone will use end game gear etc.

They do their best, but they just don't understand mmorpgs very well, so I just don't see how they'll be able to make the changes that are needed.

I didn't say anything about bots. Also, the dungeon lockout per day is only doubled with premium so you get 2 entries per day instead of 1. It isn't that big of a difference since that gear is good, but not an instant win. The only p2w issue in all of Tera that you could list is that you get 1 extra chance to possibly, maybe, probably not, get a drop in a dungeon per day? You pay $15 a month and get to do some dungeons 2x instead of 1x per day. Hardly an issue or a P2W for the people that grind those dungeons. I have had no problem topping PVP battlegrounds without spending a cent on that game. Maybe there wasn't someone with this instant win gear on, or maybe it just isn't that good since I'm running the free pvp gear from the corsairs merchant which is probably the worst lvl 60 gear you can get.

Very true, the F2P MMOs probably hate me as a freeloader and I am very thankful for the kids with their mothers credit card and the older guys with their career already in hand and their college debt paid off. Without them, I would never have played any MMOs because I tend to go for the F2P because of money limitations in my life ATM while I attend grad school. In a few years, I probably won't care if a game is P2P or F2P because money constraints won't be there, but F2P hardly ruined any of the games I've played.

I did play Warframe, perhaps you put too much stock in the weapons that were money and didn't check out the often equivalent guns you could find with grinding. Maybe you just couldn't figure out how to add the correct mods or run the correct Alert to get something you wanted that was usually a Pay item. Warframe is pretty good about having Alerts every so often for items that are usually pay only.
