Player Housing - An Idea

While I'm fairly certain the Developers have already gotten an idea of what they want for Housing in mind, I thought I might pitch a few ideas I've been kicking around, on the off chance they might actually like it.

1. Player Crafting to be a part of our Home's construction. Lets be able to bring our friends in on the project, and help them with theirs.
2. Having our home in a Pocket of Oblivion or some other strange place so we can go wild and show off, without making the world gaudy.
3. A way to Store Loot, with Crafting Stations and Armories. Lets hang our Trophies on the wall, so people can't say we made up that fish tale. Lets be able to have racks of cool armor we've gathered over the years, so we can show off and reminisce about times played with friends.
4. Make it something creative. The homes in most elder scroll games were cool, but the down side to many of them were that we had very little creative involvement. Hearthfire definitely changed some of that, but it would be nice if we could take it further, and add more to our plot of land/oblivion. Including wheels of cheese.

This is a small idea, but something someone I was talking to came up with. It would be neat if we could have a little sparring area, or dueling area in our homes. Either to playtest our moves or to practice.

Yeah, there shouldn't be player housing in an Elder Scrolls game! Wait a minute...

I'm specifically interested in mini oblivion planes.

And as my friend puts it, the lack of storage options is a real hamper on a lot of player's sense of enjoyment.

He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

I have got to be honest, I love the ideas, but I don't really want to live in some plane of oblivion, I want an apartment in Elden Root, or a townhouse in Kenarthi's Roost. I don't mind that it's instanced, or that other players cant see it, my house is my little domain.
I'm likely to visit there each night when I finish up for the evening. I'll come back to town, do my bag cleanout/crafting, then go home where I can visit my library of lorebooks, enjoy a meal my wife has prepared for me (or perhaps I prepared for her) and admire my display cabinet of rewards and trophies before logging out.

I suppose that would be interesting too. I'm just spitballing here. Generic Islands off the coast of Tamriel might work also. I'm just not seeing them creating sandbox housing in this game. I'm pretty sure that will never happen.

The concept I like alot is for ESO to create a few 'towns' that exist on the borders between regions. These towns include regional flavor (built in the style of the local area), and include about 20 houses or so and maybe a keep or a few inn buildings.

The doors to these houses all are instanced, allowing players to purchase a house and layout they particularly like. The town looks busy as players and NPC's roam around. A local inn and market (for later introduction of trade stalls). And guilds can purchase either one of the larger inns or for much more, the keep.

Each house, inn or keep is capable of being owned by multiple entities, and is not limited in the number of occupants. Meaning only one town could support every other player in the game, by the simple process of phasing.

A neat addition would be linked to what they mentioned about upcoming changes to how group members will always be visible on your screen, no matter if you are in different phases or not. In these towns, so would guild members also always be visible.

    Greetings!
After sleeping on the idea, we just love the idea of having things as we did in Skyrim etc. Plus, the addition of persistent storage would go a LONG way to get rid of the current storage problems ( inventory management ) so many players seem to be having. Although, we thought it would be nicer to be located out of oblivion and close to or as suggested between areas in the game. The idea of Inns and vendors nearby is also a plus.
    Bring on the Housing!

Hmmm.... I don't know how many of you have read the "Myth" series by Robert Asprin but I think you could combine the pocket dimension with a door location to satisfy ratbagrwb17_ESO and the OP.

In the series there was a race called Deveels who were masters of dimension travelling and trade who had shop tents with doors to their real homes elsewhere at the back of the tent.

I love those books... I seem to recall one particularly nasty surprise when the main characters became the owners of one of those Deveel tents. It turned out that the mansion inside it had a back door. A very heavily locked back door. A back door to a dimension that terrified the Deveels. Possible player housing quest idea?

It is a little early to post ideas for housing i think. They announced recently we could expect housing after first or second anniversary which is pretty far if you ask me. They have a busy schedule, first they should add more content for end-game consumers which will never be satisfied, then they need to feed VR12 guilds' ego in PvP, maybe late 2016 we could begin to post about Housing.

Just one point "add more content for end-game consumers which will never be satisfied" - made me thinking why should they concentrate on consumers that by definition will never be satisfied?
If they create CarlgornII then all of these players will immediately level up to VR14 (by doing pure grind), forgot about Carlgorn and start farming top level instance, that will make game in exactly same point as it is now, but with one obsolete endgame zone.

It was my point, i see no point adding content for people who never get satisfaction. They always consume content faster than developers produce, as blizzard announced long ago. Then they will begin to release cheap, fast, inattentive and repeatable content for these type of minority players that makes game feels cheap for rest of the players. I began to believe most developers thinks same alike with vocal minorities, end-game consumers in that case, that's the reason MMORPGs can not be successful anymore. They ignore majority's expectations and try to evolve game for the highest level only.

The nice thing about a good Housing system is that its a great way to show off your exploits. I like the idea of the 'instanced town' or choice of 'instanced towns' that players could build their homes out of. Perhaps homes could be linked off of a Guild constructed town? Housing/Bases are a great way of promoting teamwork and activity for endgame pursuits in an MMO. They are also a way of promoting activity in standalone TES games. I think perhaps on point 2, having the option to build in pocket realms or the world at large might be better. The Pocket Realm thing might be more the purview of a mage to begin with.

If they don't at least put some kind of sandbox feature they will have failed. Most existing MMOs with housing allow for certain amounts of customisation. And those new MMO or those who are putting in housing are allowing massive amounts of customisation.
If Zenimax want ESO to be the genre leader they need to do more, better and sooner. In 1-2 years they would have missed the boat ! ! !

lol you do realize that a lot of MMOs wait a couple years before putting housing in right???? and oh my gosh there is a reason for that....wait for it......wait for it.....*takes a drink*....*holds finger up*...okay so that they can work out all/most of the bugs in an MMO, also so they can deal with balancing issues, etc. *sharp inhale of breath* what?! you mean other MMOs have had problems they had to work out at start up?! NO! get out of town well golly shucks darn it. Shame on companies having a plan, who'd ever thunk it.
