Targeted Emotes are a staple of most MMOs, but not this one?

In other MMOs, somebody helps me with a kill, I click them, then direct a "Thanks "so and so"" emote at them. Fast, efficient, two clicks. Great for general communication and just having fun with others, too.

This game, though, it's not so easy. Best I can do it a non-focused emote saying "I cheer" or find their name and type out "thanks so & so" at which point they're probably gone. Or I can just say, "Thanks!" with no specific target, likely not to be noticed.

I think that is a big factor in the game seeming so cold regarding interacting with others. So many times people have run in to help me or buff me, and by the time I try to thank them--gone.

Since there's no easy targeting in the game, I would strongly suggest adding the ability to have emotes that specify the currently centered player. Or come up with something to add this almost universal MMO feature.

The solution is the right addon. While they cannot write and send chat messages for the user (spam protection), they can prepare a message you only have to commit with Enter. On a little as a backslash and two characters or keypress as input.

Also at least FastReport is able to detect player names under the cursor, even beyond ranges of the normal interaction menu. There it is used for reproting, but it could be adapted for more social interactions.

Finally I have seen Roleplayers use something similar to the /me command for IRC for "in character actions that appear as text in chat". Not sure how they do it.

Might be best on ask on the addon forum. Solving issues like this is why Zenimax gave us the Addon API.

The reason is because primary design for this game appears to be for console. Look at the simplistic UI layout and menu. 5 ability slots with left and right quick slot item and ultimate, looking familiar to any of those console controllers?

I am sure it was a major blow to announce the delay in sending this to console but the decision was easy; they are raking in revenue while 'beta' testing the product. They want this to be as polished as possible prior to the holiday season so that when the PC version is hit with micro-transactions, the console version will boom.

I am sure in their business model for the game we will be offered some from of account conversion to console, at a cost to us though which will inflate their sales numbers even more.

I really want to like this game. I do. However, the more I play it, the more I become disenchanted by it.

The relevance of my rant is that there is no easy way to implement /emotes to a controller/console game.
