To NPC Collision, or Not to NPC collision

Do you think the catering to RPs on a Mega server with NPC collision was a wise idea? Not to mention the Enemy NPCs do not even follow the collision rules yet the players are forced too.

Haha, did you really make a poll without an option for affirming you like the collision as-is?

Edit: Do you think the catering to RPs on a Mega server with NPC collision was a wise idea? .. i.e. no way to say 'yes'

Forgot an option about it staying the same. You want an actual poll? Give the people who like the collision as is, even non RPers, weigh in that they like it as well.

I think it should stay but here are my adjustments.
    • Move NPC's obviously placed before the change so they no longer block entrance to tents/doors.
    • Make ghosts and spirits not have collision.

I freaking hate npc collision. I was literally raging 10 minutes ago about this to my wife.

The ones in doors are just stupid. And, the groups of them in the pathways can <expletive deleted> themselves.

Its not just a straight NPC issue - I am tired of pets/familars (espcially clannifer) blocking my path in the bank. Oh I know thats supposed to be fixed - but it isn't. 5 minutes after an instance has loaded those pieces of <bleep> block the area.
  • stevenpotter321b14_ESO
What level of play has collision added? I only notice when mobs are in the way of things, it hasn't ever enhanced my combat, even on my single target NB. I guess a good compromise would be that mobs have collision and non-killable npcs do not, but I think that would probably require a lot of work at this point than on/off.

Adjust it. NPCs shouldn't block you from getting somewhere unless it's a quest or something where you aren't supposed to go there at that time. Just yesterday when I was leveling one of my alts in Auridon I got stuck inside a house in Phaer (after going in to grab a chest I could see inside the doorway) for about 5 minutes when an NPC decided to stand in the doorway, and I couldn't get past her.

I hate collision detection, it should be removed, it does not have it's place in an MMO. I was never for it to begin with. It's annoying, I also experienced being stuck inside a house and not being able to get out as a NPC stood in the doorway and I could not get past her for ages.

I'm fine with collision for interactable NPC's. But for things like pets, it needs to go.

What on earth makes you think that NPC collision was put in for RPers? It was put in because lots of players in beta complained that the combat seemed light and unimpactful.

There has been very little catering to RP in this game tbh, if you think collision detection is there for RP you are hugely misinformed.

Really. So getting stuck in a building because an NPC is standing in the doorway and you can't get past... That's a good thing? And it's a LTP issue? OK then...

You can never be blocked like that, open your map and fast travel, or open your freinds list, guild list and travel to player for free, you can even pick one in the same zone. Sure its incovenient until the pathing for the npc gets fixed, but your not trapped.

So I either have to spend gold to get unblocked, or hope that someone on my friends list or a guildmate is online, and travel to them. Meanwhile, if the place I want to go is literally right on the other side of the NPC, I'll have to make my way back there. Yeah, I can see how that's definitely a good thing and there's nothing bad about it at all.

Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous, to suggest that getting stuck behind an NPC in a doorway is a "LTP" issue.

Btw, whenever I read the term "LTP" I always imagine the words said in muppet voices - I can't really take it very seriously :)

Unit collision, at least to me, is directly correlated to the amount of aoe effects can hit.

Since it has been insisted that there is a cap to the number for things an aoe ability can hit, NPC should not be stackable.

Sucks about the doors getting blocked, but that is neither here nor there. Maybe I would be more worked up about it if it happened to me, but the fix for that isn't to just remove collision.

You do know that NPC collision was only introduced a couple of weeks before release? I played with and without it in beta. It made little difference in terms of combat, but I noticed a hit in performance and issues like getting stuck or blocked due to NPC positioning (which was not in all cases changed to take account of the fact that collision was introduced). If it were taken out, you might see it as removing something - I would see it as putting things back the way they were.

I don't personally mind npc collision. What I do mind is people who don't unsummon their familiars in cities/banks, which is the polite thing to do in every crowded mmo, regardless of npc collision.
