I need an in depth analysis of how blocking works in PVP

Please teach me how blocking with a shield works in PVP, these are the questions I have:
1. What kind of mitigation am I looking at? Will I block ALL damage when the shield is up, only a certain percentage or what?
2. What types of abilities can I block? Things like light/heavy attack, weapon skills, magic skills or just magical/physical projectiles? Can I block everything and anything?
Anything else I should know? Please feel free to share.

1. Its about 50 percent base reduction, One-hand and shield line adds about 20% and temps/dk's get passives for more. The maximum amount damage can be mitigated is 95%.
2. You can block everything. You cannot be disabled while blocking unless out of stamina.
