Oh No Not the Harborage Again!

I swear its like being stuck in the tutorial. I'm lvl 6 trying to catch up to a friend that's a lvl and 5 quests ahead of me and whammo! The prophet appears and I make the mistake of accepting the mission and running to go see the Prophet in his cave...

45 MINUTES LATER... My friend has logged because he can't wait any longer/has limited game time and all because I was stuck in this stupid long-drawn out dialogue scene from which there's no escape but waiting....

Its already hard to just dive right into content with friends who might be a little higher, a little lower in level but stuff like this... can we make these main quests easier to navigate/escape from if time is of the essence when grouping?

Then why did you go to the Harborage?

It took you 45 minutes to finish that? Seriously, if you've already done it, just fast-click through it. I did it earlier today on a new alt. It doesn't take 45 minutes.

It wouldn't let me out once I went inside and the Prophet took me into his vision. I tried logging out and back in but still kept me inside the instance (I think that's why it took 45 minutes - probably would have taken less time if I'd not logged in/out constantly trying to find a way out).

You don't have to go there, in fact on one of my play throughs I left all the harbourage quest and ran them all in one go at lvl 45.

Seems to me that if your friend is ahead of you and waiting for you to catch up.. then why is having him log off an issue at all? Does he have to be online to wait for you to catch up?

Well its about being able to play together and he can only play once a week.

He came back. We're trying to share his missions now with my lower level toon (not working sadly). We'll keep trying but its making it really hard to play together.

You didn't have to go to the harborage when you got the quest. Furthermore, while in the cave you can leave at any time. If you've gone through the portal, you could have logged out and logged back in to find yourself back in tamriel ready to quest with your buddy. There's no reason why you couldn't have joined your buddy.

I did go through the portal, and I did log out and back in several times while inside the portal - and still it brought me back to the portal instance. There was no way out - no way back into Tamriel until the Prophet was done walking/talking and the other NPC had played out their dialogue sequences.

I think that's an ongoing problem in several instances of the game where you have to "wait" for the NPCs to play their scene out; it'd be nice to fast-forward or escape it somehow to keep the group flow/dynamic moving.

Yep, perhaps next time if you intend to play with someone else catch up with them straight away and play. The nature of most mmo games leads to time disappearing fast, and bleary eyes at work in the morning ;)

If your friend is a little higher level than you, and on a different questline, I'm sure he would be more than happy to help ryou run through your journal and help you catch up to him faster. Perhaps just avoid the main story while your playing together.

LOL if your friend can only play once a week, why the heck would you even worry about it? This sounds made up to me. Story line quests are not hard at all. I never ran into one (and I did them all at the equal level) that took longer then 20 minutes. You're doing something wrong.

He already admitted that he spent more time worrying about how to quit out of the quest than would have taken him to have just finished it.

I'm wondering if he tried opening up his map, zooming out to zone view, and porting out to the wayshrine of his choice.

    No, I didn't try that.

And we're both vet MMO players (we've been playing with a group of 9 other friends for 10 years - starting with CoH). Alas, he's the only member of our group that's interested in ESO - everyone else wrote it off cause its not group friendly starting at lvl 1 (they went to Neverwinter and Wildstar respectively).

Ok -- well, if you ever get stuck in an instance again like that, that's how you get out/reset it. Open up the map and select a zone from the list on the right, then select a wayshrine. It'll port you right out and you can start over later.

After the 2nd time playing through that one, I just walked to the spot where he stops and alt tab out of the game until he reaches it, then do it again for the next part, and then run to the end spot and do it again and wait to portal out.

It's not that it's bad the first couple of times for the story, but with all my character slots full of alts, it did get a bit tiresome having to wait.

You could of simply not gone to the Harborage. There were plenty of times where I put off going to the Harborage for 5 levels or more.

It would be nice if they just add a dialogue option that let's you skip it on an alt like they do with the tutorial.

A couple of things you should be aware of.

    * If you are going to static duo with another player, neither of you can go off and do quests on your own. As a general rule, one player will NOT be able to help another one if you are an different stages of the quest. ZOS may attempt to change that at some time in the future, but talk is cheap. Right now, stay in sync. Play an alt if you must play without your partner.

    * There are a large number of quests in the game that have stages that MUST be done solo and in which you cannot get help with, grouped or not. It is very important that you build a balanced character that can solo difficult content. Otherwise you WILL be stuck at some stage or another.

This is from my experience playing a Templar Healer (with DPS on the side) as a static duo with a Sorcerer Tank.

    Good Hunting!

I've played with my man almost the whole game. As a heads up - main story line and guild lines you have to play solo. So don't do those when you play together.

I agree you should be able to bring a friend if you wanted, though.

Are you talking about that asinine "quest" where you just have to follow the Prophet around and watch the visions? It took 45 minutes for that? And yes, you don't have to do it RIGHT AWAY. NPCs will _always_ tell you to hurry, hurry - but you do not have to. They will wait, with the patience of Job, for you to show up and do your thing.

My husband made me DIE during this quest, where there's absolutely no reason to die. I left the keyboard, and he accidentally walked me off a cliff while playing around with the mouse. I'm not entirely sure how he managed this, since I need two hands to walk around properly. I got bugged out; I guess the GMs were kind enough to roll me back. I just had to do the quest again. My fault for letting him mess around with my WoW characters when they're in town (he killed one of those toons, too, by walking too far out of some little village and getting jumped by some NPC he had no idea how to fight. He's one of the last computer illiterates on Earth, save some Amazonian stone-age type folk.) I'll be more than happy to use my own money to buy him a computer and a copy of ESO and his sub, even, but he's no longer allowed to mess with my ESO characters. (Oh, he won't let me buy him that sort of stuff anyway. I had to be hardline on the issue of paying bills and rent myself so that I know it's done - that's an artifact from my horrible ex.)

The Harborage also seems to count as a waypoint of its own.

If you logout and wait 5 mins(Think that's correct, unless it's been changed recently), then instance will reset and you'll log back inside the cave and have a portal to restart it or just leave and come back later.

That being said, a button to skip some of the long cut screens would be handy, esp for leveing alts.

I am having an issue where... on the horbarage solo quest I am told to speak to the prophet after I see the little people from the past... blah blah blah... w/e. anyway after they all appear at the table and I have to talk to him again. the dialogue will not let me selct anything but goodbye... I am literally stuck in the fn horbarage.... wish that was my only issue but its not. invisible npc's, constant time outs, some weird message saying that im message spamming. whatever that means.. my gaming experience of this game is really not looking up. and im so pissed I paid $80 for this fn game if its not even working correctly. minor issues is one thing..
