WARNING: Close programs to prevent information loss

Since the new patch (v1.1.2), I'm getting the Microsoft Windows warning/popup saying (after playing about ~1hour):

Close programs to prevent information loss
Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: ESO

See this screenshot:

So naturally you would say, well close some applications or buy more memory, right? Well to counter that, I have 6 GB of RAM and the only (major) application running is ESO. When opening Task Manager, ESO has about 400~500 MB of Memory and total memory is about 40~50% after I get this warning from Windows. Meaning that I have still about ~3 GB of RAM left!

Now I'm wondering, why i suddenly get this warning since v1.1.2 every time I start playing ESO after playing a while? Am I the only one here? I'm sure others must've run into this too?

EDIT:
When I start the game and I'm in the game world, the (Private) Memory Working Set and the Commit Size are both about ~1GB. Next time I will check what the Commit Size will be after I get this warning again.

Screenshot of Task Manager with more details:

• Memory (private working set): ~300-500 MB
• Commit size: ~400 MB
• Peak working set (memory): ~1.2 GB

Thing to note: the game was running for about 30-40 minutes in the login-screen for about 30-40 minutes while I was AFK.
Smells like a bug to me not resolved since patch v1.1.2

but seriously, im getting a lot of issues after last patch. and so are a lot of others, lag, crashes, memory leaks. etc.
they dun f**d it up.

I've run into this too, occasionally, but weeks ago (my system has only 4.5 GB of RAM). However, when I have no other application running (except the few standard background apps such as the antivirus software), I don't receive this warning.

ESO's only a 32-bit app, so its ceiling for memory usage is around 3GB. If you have other apps open that will reduce the headroom for ESO. With only 6GB in your system, I highly recommend not running anything in the background while you play.

I see, but it's weird that ESO is using only 0.5 GB of working memory and I'm getting this warning from Windows on a 64-bit OS. Also note that this is only happening since v1.1.2. So could this be a bug introduced since the last patch?

I just started it up with TM running to see the usage and it's already at 1GB for me and I only just passed the character select screen. Additionally, there have been people reporting that the memory leak is still occurring.

As an aside, it doesn't matter if your install of Windows is 64-bit, ESO is still a 32-bit app with the 3GB memory usage cap.

I have been browsing the forums and noticed indeed the memory leak issue people have been reporting. I also contacted customer support and they just replied with that my issue is peculiar, since they have fixed it recently in a hotfix.

Ah I see, so Windows is just warning me that ESO is reaching it's max allowed memory for it being a 32-bit application. BTW, the ~0.5 GB was the "Memory (Private Working Set)" for ESO. I will look in the "Commit Size" next time I'm getting this warning again.

My computers been running hot since the patch and the "hot fix". Before hand I had no such issues. Running on:-

Nvidea 680 GTX 4GB
i7-3770k
8GB of 1888 ram
windows 7 64bit

I seriously dont think that error means anything. It was happening to me with EQ1, and nothing bad happened. Just click the box off or just tab back to eso and ignore it.

Even if eso can only use 3GB that doesnt prevent windows from using the other 3GB. So what Im saying is that if that error was an actual problem it would indicate you were using close to 6GB total (not 3), and thats not really happening, right?

Got the same thing today (2nd time for me). Game crashed and got the "close programs to prevent information loss" warning.

Core i7-3537U, 8GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GT 740M, Windows 8 64-bit.

No issues here like that. I have skype and raidcall running in the background. Have a hardware monitor program running also and have never gone below 1GB of RAM left. Max temp I get is around 66C when normal is around 55C.

AMD Athlon(tm) II P320 Dual-Core Processor 2.1GHz, 4GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series, Windows 7 64 bit.

And this is a laptop I play on.

So today I've got the error again, I wasn't even in the game world, was kinda afk for about 30-45 minutes in the login screen en suddenly windows said:


As you can see, current memory (private working set) is still not more than 500 MB. The Commit Size is also around that size. I've also enabled the column for Peak working set and that was about 1.2 GB. So the Commit Size probably would be just a bit more than that.

Thing to note here is that this just happened while I was AFK in the login screen! I still don't know what the actual commit size was at the time I got the warning. But it does smell to me like there is still a memory leak somewhere causing this warning. Wouldn't anyone agree?

I'm getting this error but only on a Windows 8.1 machine. Haven't seen it on my Windows 7 desktop and I played for a couple of hours the other day.

I have 12 gig and getting the same. When I alt tab to task manager theres' loads of unused memory.

4 gig of ram here and I've never had that warning. Always running TS, Firefox, origin and steam in the background. Running Windows 7.

OP... Are you able to test your RAM? I'm wondering if a stick isn't working... Can you swap it out with a friend or another computer? If not I'm sure there are some diagnostic programs out there that can confirm you have a full 6 gig available for use

I'm running with Windows 8.1, NVIDIA 765M 2GB DDR5, and 12GB DDR3, and I get this error nearly every single time I run ESO.

So that trumps everyone's claims that this is a legitimate error.

With ~70% of my memory available, there is no logical reason this error should appear other than there being an issue with ESO itself.

ESO is either leaking memory, or glitching the Windows 8.1 OS. Either way this needs to be fixed ASAP. Window prompts from the OS can cause an intermittent lag that can disrupt game play in the most critical of moments.

Windows 7 and haven't seen this. By the looks of this thread, sounds like Windows 8.

It is not related to the amount of system memory. I have 32GB and I get this error from time to time. But indeed I run Windows 8.1 and I don't have other applications opened in the same time.

This is a bug that has to be addressed.

I think I fixed that when I went to windowed full screen rather than fullscreen.
