What is better for PVP or whatever

I'm leveling my DK (14 now) and trying to figure out my 2nd action bar. Right now I'm doing Sword & Shield but not putting any points other than passive for blocking. The rest is going to more AOE DK stuff but its all melee range. I don't know if I'll do PVP but would it be better to close distance with my shield charge and do my normal attacks that way or choose a long range weapon like bow or destro staff?
