AD Elden Root Memory Issues Ticket: 140919-000515

Since the update yesterday I am having memory issues only in the Elden Root area. My game will start eating memory like mad for no reason. I logged out earlier today when I noticed my games memory use. Logged back into the game an hour later and just stood there by the wayshrine in Elden Root. My game went from 1.9GB use to 2.9GB use in less than a minute and I wasn't doing anything but standing still.

I logged out and back in with my V4 character in Glenumbra and the memory use was normal, 1.9gigs. I switched characters to my AD in Elden Root and bam...memory use went mad again and I logged out when it hit 3gigs.

There is a memory leak going on in this game. Here are two screens of memory when I first get into the game and one of the memory 30 seconds after I am just standing there. It will keep climbing to 3gigs if I stay in the game. This was NOT happening before update 1.4. This is in the AD Grahtwood map.

I had noticed it in the Elden Root area as reported above but I had to log into the beginning area of Grahtwood today for a quest and it is happening there as well.

Well CS has emailed many suggestions, all of which I had already tried so they now have my Game Consultant report. This memory issue is annoying. I have to log in, run like mad to a dungeon, hope I can get through it without the memory hitting 3gigs, leave the dungeon, log out totally, log back in, run to a wayshrine and try to get to town so I can unload stuff before needing to log back out again.

I didn't have any of these memory issues before the 1.4 update.

    Hey there @Seravi,

Is the issue persisting outside of Elden Root now? If so, it's possible that the issue is with your video card drivers. It sounds a bit strange, but display devices share memory with the system RAM, and out of date drivers can cause memory leaks.

If you're using an Nvidia video card, you can update your drivers here.
If you're using an AMD video card, you can update your drivers here.

@ZOS_GaryA, It only happens with one character. If I start with my AD character the memory goes nuts and won't release even if I log to the character screen and choose another character. Now if I log out of the game completely and start with my EP character, the memory is normal until I log into my AD character and then it goes nuts again.

My AD character had a mages guild quest, shivering isles and when the game took me there the memory dropped from 2.8gigs to 1.9 and stayed there until I finished the quest and came back to the AD. It started climbing immediately once I got back to the AD.

This AD character did NOT have ANY memory issues before the 1.4 update. It all started right after the update.

    Hey there @Seravi,

A lot of the AD areas are a lot more dense, especially in relation to polygons and particles. All of these things can be optimized through updated drivers, so it's a good place to start.

If you have a moment, please check the above site for your specific video card manufacturer and make sure your drivers are up to date. Once everything is completely updated, please give the AD character a try and let us know if it helps.

My AD is the only one having issues. I played my Vet4 who is in Alik'r and she did fine. I then switched to my AD long enough to take her from one wayshrine to the bank and my memory went from 1.7 to 2.8gigs in 20 seconds and kept climbing. I went to the character select screen, even tabbed out of the game and the game would not release the memory. My other character in the EP, when the game uses a little memory due to lots of activity going on, once it is over with, the game releases it.

I've tried other drivers and the entire game is unstable. Lots of ctd, black screens and freezes so I am back on the one driver that the game is quite happy with. As I have said before, my character in AD before the1.4 update had NO issues with memory. Now, since the update it uses memory at an alarming rate and won't release it.

Almost same issue. Poor fps in Elden Root and only in this location especially when moving. If I still at the point and not rotate camera then fps is common. I think Undaunted Enclave cause it because in all cities when it placed there are some stuttering near Enclaves.

I suspect the new Undaunted area was placed where the world was already heavy with polygon density.

I will, when first loading there, have a performance hit. I am lucky that it will recover, perhaps due to my system specs (below).

I do not recall ever seeing ESO memory blow up like that. I will do some checking if I can remember.

I will do some memory profiling. There was a leak a while back but I thought it was fixed. The stutter is a game issue. http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/143478/elder-scrolls-lag-with-690-sli-4790k#latest
