Worrying thought (Possible solution included): What's the motivation for...

... achieving a high PvP rank, or doing group/raid PvE content, if I can just craft legendary max level set gear? Items have always been the main motivation to anything in an MMO and once I have researched all traits and have enough gold for mats, I'll have the best gear and no reason to do anything anymore... Until they increase vet ranks again, which is why they're doing it, I guess.

Proposal:

1. Make legendary tempers only drop from the hardest bosses/be awarded for high pvp ranks

And/Or

2. Introduce crafting recipes for really good sets, attainable by boss drop/pvp ranks. These could also be VR15 items, while all other craftables are stuck at VR12.

This would of course also require zos to stop increasing max VR for a while and develop more horizontal content.

I love playing this game and I want to keep playing for a long time, but with the current itemization, I'm worried.

Max crafted gear, by design, has better base stats, decent traits, a few good possible sets, and you can make it look like you want.

Max looted gear has only slightly lower base stats, decent traits, a lot of really great sets, and can even come in unique looks.

I very much doubt ESO knows what it's doing with the VR content. They keep raising the max rank, maybe afraid that players without a means of progression will become bored or stagnant. But they also provide little benefit to each VR rank, and no focus overall.

For players like myself, who aren't worried about being max, there's little incentive to keep leveling. For players who DO focus on being max rank, they may find themselves frustrated if every 4-6 weeks their hard work is in vain. How long with they chase that not-too-good carrot?

I do support adding unique crafting stations in veteran dungeons and/or veteran zones, providing bonuses outside the standard fare. I also support unique trait stone or enchantment stone drops off of veteran bosses, which would allow players to customize their gear with unique bonuses or effects. A 'flame sheath' trait which also lights the armor on fire, etc.

I do not support doing what so many other games do, and pushing crafting to enhancements only while all gear is focused through an artificial gear grind.
Ruze Aulus. Mayor of Dhalmora. Archer, hunter, assassin. Nightblade.
Gral. Mountain Terror. Barbarian, marauder, murderer. Nightblade.
Na'Djin. Knight-Blade. Knight, vanguard, defender. Nightblade.

    XBOX NA
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

I don't like the idea of ZOS halting content in favour or horizontal content addition. IF they could somehow do both at the same time (and that's not that difficult) then they would have the perfect solution. Best of everything for everybody !

Just to be clear, what i mean by horizontal content addition is stuff like additional, progressively harder raid dungeons whith increasingly better drops, just without having to level again.
