What happened to the graphics?

Hi,

I've not played ESO for a month. Since then I've gone back to Eve a bit and become hooked on Wildstar. However, I have a couple of days left on my subscription so I thought I would log into ESO today and have a run around just to make sure I actually didn't want to resubscribe.

Unfortunately, I immediately noticed a lot of tearing of the screen as I was running through Grohtwood (or whatever it's called). Every time I moved the mouse around the graphics would split and tear. It is very noticeable and annoying. ESO has always run smoothly for me on all max settings but I can't play it now with the graphics doing this.

Does anyone know what happened to the graphics, is this a fault that was introduced by a recent patch or what???

Ah, I turned on V-Synch and the problem has pretty much gone now.

You might by default be playing in full-screen mode which was recently introduced. While turning on V-Synch helps with problems caused by that mode, you may find performance (and temperatures) improved by switching to windowed full-screen mode, which is the way you were previously playing the game. I suggest you still have V-Synch enabled.

Yeah, I don't use V-Synch as it seems to really bog down my system. I saw screen tearing for the first time in my life when I logged into true fullscreen mode. Haven't had a problem since switching back to windowed fullscreen, though.

The first couple of weeks after launch, I'd been having weird issues with black lines and planes suddenly appearing all over the place, but that hasn't happened in, oh, at least the past couple of weeks or so. I'm not sure what that was, or what might be different now.

Vsync locks your frame rate to your monitors refresh rate, Turning it off can increase a games FPS output but can cause the tearing described here.

So I'm using my tv as a monitor through the hdmi, I believe it's refresh rate is 60hz. So would the fps be locked to 60fps then with Vsync turned on? And how would the performance change? Should I expect better or worse? I have it off and my fps generally is between 80-95 fps with occasional drops to 50-60. In PVP, it'll drop down a lot more sometimes. Like around 15-30. Sustained usually around 60 fps in PVP. Thanks
