Light armor spell penetration passive is broken

The light armor spell penetration passive does not appear to be working in game. You can get at least 50% penetration that reads it ignores that percent of an enemies armor and spell resist yet I often have spells hitting for significantly less than their rating. For example, one rated at 192dmg ten times in a row hit a guy for only 23dmg. That is an 88% reduction and supposedly with 50% penetration? So you are telling me the guy had 176% avoidance? No I am certain it is not being applied. There are certain situations where for a short time that could happen but not through an entire 1-2min fight.

    "Spell" penetration.. only class skills are counter as spells at the moment, any weapon skill is classified as a weapon attack including destruction and restoration staff skills. Just throwing that out there in case you weren't using a class ability and expecting it to work.

    Its just you. The mob you were hitting was probably a crocodile which has some kind of shield that reduces significantly the amount of damage they take for about 10 seconds. It works fine for me. My crystal shards is rated at 565ish and hits for 550.

    Thanks for this, I did not know that only class skills were regarded as spells. This will help me a fair bit in working out builds.

    Note that I said a 1-2min fight the 10s thing is irrelevant to a fight of that length for them to do it consistent and this is against players not mobs which I had also made clear.

    I would disagree that you "made clear" the fact you were in pvp when you said you hit "a guy". However, you did state the length of battle, I just stopped paying attention due to the rambling.

    Wait, Spell Penetration from Light Armor passives does not apply to Destruction Staff Skills? Really? I thought it would apply, since Destruction skills use spell crit?

    I tested this with destruction staff heavy and light attacks and it does increase damage.

    Nim did you also try testing it after dieing once or more? I did not notice the issue I originally outlined until after a few pvp deaths and I am hearing that death in pvp is what is breaking the passives but can be "fixed" with a relog.

    Spell penetration is magic/elemental damage (most class skills).

    Armor penetration is physical (most weapon skills... except destro staves and I'd guess bow poison) damage.

    Also destro staves have their own "destruction skills ignore X spell resist" passive which I assume only applies to destro staff skills/attacks.

    If you see something take significantly less damage than it should, it's using some kind of shield buff.
