Are they worth it? Should I stuff 3 points into each one Ive got? Does a level 3 Hireling give better loot consistently?

I haven't tried the provisioning or enchanting hirelings yet (although I have been told prov is total bunk) but I personally have found my 3/3 woodworking, clothing, and blacksmithing hirelings to be fantastic. I get 1-2 legendary tempers regularly (usually once every 3-5 deliveries) and get blue and purple tempers more often. Having extraction 3/3 also makes a big difference when breaking down gear or refining raw materials.

If you can time it so you log in to catch the hireling before you leave for work, it's even more fantastic cause you get 2 hirelings a day.

Provisioning is hit or miss. Most days I get nothing but hops, the same ones I can easily loot in barrels and sacks.

A couple of times I have gotten Salt and Tomato's.

At this time, as a level 50 Provisioner, I would advise against putting skill points into that Hireling unless you have extra points that you are not using elsewhere.

Provisioning hirelings are one of the only ways to get the rare ingredients for vr5 epic recipes. One of the ingredients you can find in your faction and the others are found in the other factions and through hirelings only (the ingredients are oats, pepper, and tomatos). So I think it's worth it to invest in them if you have a recipe that needs them, but they still don't have the same return as the other hirelings.

Woodcraft hirelings, are almost worthless, I have 3 on my main and it is my wood crafter. I had 4 legendary's prior to the patch and have gotten 1 more since. I didn't abuse the hirelings to get 100's of anything, but sure could use a few more, he he. Still hope ZOS removed the abuser's from the game or at least their ill gotten gains.

That would require you to find an epic recipe and I tell you they are rarer than anything else in the game. I have never seen any linked in zone chat.

You can get pepper in other factions. I mostly see it in produce baskets. seems 3x or 4x as rare as salt.

Oats and tomato I only get from hireling.

I'm 3/3 hirelings in blacksmithing, clothing, woodwork and enchanting. At least one of the 4 mails every 12 hours has a purple or yellow material somewhere. No lie, I actually got 4 tempering alloys (yellow ones) from my smith hireling on Saturday. May not be worth it at lower levels, but I'm VR7 and have quite a few unspent skill points. Totally worth it if the spent skill points won't hinder your damage/healing/questing all that much.
