In this video, I'm showing how to tank Kra'Gh The Dreugh King, last boss of Fungal Grotto, with a Sorcerer Tank. In this video I just dinged 16, and didn't toke the time to set up my second skill set or to add more skill points. The build I'm using at this point is this one. (I've not added my point in crafting though and I may have forgotten a passive or two)


When I'm streaming, or making videos, and announcing that I'm a Sorcerer tank, a lot of people have this reaction "Sorcerer Tank WTF! Dragonknight is better for tanking"

So I do not know what's better and what's worst, and I do not care. Sorcerer tanking is working nicely and it's very fun to play. I enjoy it a lot. What's more pleasurable than: Thunder Presence – Shield Charge – Mage Wrath – Bash, bash, bash? A little Silver Bolt then and there, for fun? And the transformation into Sith Lord with Power Overload?

I of course do not have any experience (yet) in Veteran content, I'm not a top notch theorycrafter and my goal is not to preach for my church. I simply want to share my experience with others, so they can follow my adventures and my progression. Seen my mistakes and my success, my dubts and my experiments. Day after day, week after week.
Hopefully, this will be an interesting and amusing way for people to discover the Sorcerer Tank.

    I'm gonna check these out later tonight. I'm interested to see how all the classes pan out tanking, since anyone can do it. I'm gonna upload some DK tanking videos this weekend, you should check em' out!

    Thanks for sharing this videos, and the build, just what I was looking for. I am looking for different builds and play tactics and use the ideas that I like, to build a Sorcerer Tank, with heavy and light armor mix. I am planning to use Dark Magic and some of Storm Calling abilities and go with sword and a shield. Second weapon set is totally open, that I have to think twice before choosing any. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

    Are you using light armor on your sorcerer tank?

    I've 5 pieces heavy and 2 pieces light. Of course, I've a dress: It's too pleasurable to hear people saying in a Dungeon "Ahh great our tank is in clothes!!!" Haha!
    Well, the real reason is that I find it cooler/prettier to have a character with a dress and a shield.

    I saw @Elloa's videos with her tanking as a sorcerer in beta (after NDA is lifted of course) and I was deeply impressed at how well it was shown that classes are out and weapon/armor abilities were in. Meaning you can do anything you want and aren't restricted by class any longer.

    if tanking is defined as simply stacking armor and holding the right mouse button then I suppose the theory about class versatility is correct.

    My lord. Serafina does not like Dungeon trash on her shoes and has all 28 meter attacks. Level 16 DPS special.

    LOL. She is my first female char ever have and a damage dealer that stays out of the fray. She does fry way above her weight though.

    Two heavy and five light, generates magic very quickly, and just enough stamina to use Silver Bolts to keep the trash back. I can just stand there in the back frying the crowd and anything comes at me gets dropped, assuming it's Deadra etc, and I can endlessly pond and drop the fool.

    I'm sure it's viable, just seems a waste of a good nuker. I have an Orc Sorc who is really my blacksmith and tanks for fun.

    In this video I’m tanking the last boss of Banished Cell, the lvl 12-15 dungeon on the Aldmeri Side. I’m lvl 17, but exept my shield (crafted myself^^) my gear is still lvl 11-12 green
    items. In my group, I’ve a lvl 17 tankish Dragonknight Orc, a lvl 9 Nightblade DPS and a lvl 9 Sorcerer healer that even didn’t had the first passive for the resto staff.
    So while I was slightly overleveled for this Dungeon, the challenge was to keep the two low level alive!

    From all footage I had for this fight, I find it the most interesting as it shows clearly the mechanics of the fight, how you can deal with it in a “Oh *** situation” and how my build can work nicely.

    Clatterclaw, one of the last boss of Fungal Grotto, a lvl 12-15 Dungeon, Ebonheart Pact.
    I’m showing a little trick with my Sorcerer tanking build to tank this particular boss. This is the touch that my class bring to tanking, and give its thundering flavour!
    At the moment of this video I just dinged 16, and used this build My gear was still lvl 11/12 green, and I didn’t had a second set of weapons at this point.

    Whiel it's still one of the first bosses, I find this particuliar moment illustrating very well how the Sorcerer Tank can shines and be completely different from another class tank.
    It might not be traditional tanking, but I find that on certain case it's working well! :)

    I decided to try a Sorcerer Tank before watching your videos. But now that I've played it a while and seen your game play, I'm convinced it was the right decision. My clannfear, twilight, storm atronache, and I have taken down every boss we've encountered so far (level 20). Even Doshia went down before my atronache expired.

    @ghengis_dhan This is interesting because even if we both are Sorcerer tank, apparently we are using a completely different build. Would be happy to see your build or some video footage of how you fight if you can! :)

    I love the concept of Sorcerer tanks. so much so I have two. One much like your build which I enjoy and my favorite an Orc 2H (no staffs) Sorcerer, doesn't use the pet and wearing 5 Heavy and 2 Light.

    Elloa, my character is a Breton for the magic resistance. He puts all his attribute points into health, and he uses food to boost stamina. His hobby is blacksmithing, so he always has the best gear:

    - mace (enchanted with absorb health)
    - shield (enchanted with stamina)
    - 5 heavy, 1 medium, 1 light (all enchanted with stamina)
    - jewelry (enchanted with health regen)


    For daedra or undead, I lead with silver bolts; I use crystal shard for everything else. If it's a boss, I ask my storm atronach to make a cameo appearance. As I approach the enemy, I bring up lightning form. My first attack is a puncture; then, I hold my mouse button down for heavy attacks as I move to their side (most enemies do the worst damage to their front). If it is an enemy with a shield, then I just tap my mouse button for light attacks and wait to block their heavy attack.

    If it is a group, one or two of them will usually attack my clannfear and twilight. I always try to take out a spell caster first because they are easy kills for me. If the group has a two-hander, I always keep my eye on them for their heavy attack. If anyone runs backwards, I chase after and shield bash them to stop their special attack.

    Keep up the videos, Elloa. They're helpful and entertaining.

    Allene Pelligare is the last boss of the Wayrest Sewer Dungeon, a very fun and interesting instance.
    During the beta I was unable to kill this boss: I do not know if it was bugged, or if my gear and build were too crap, or if she had been nerfed a lot, but I was back then unable to block her hits.
    This time it goes very smooth, even with a clumsy group of 3 persons The tank (me) lvl 22 with good lvl 20 gear. Nightblade healer 23 and a Templar tank forced to DPS lvl 17. The secret of the success: good blocking!
