Would you like to be a merchant / storekeeper ?

By now most of us would have seen the wandering merchants around Tamriel. But how would you like the option to actually become one?

Just imagine... you've had a hard day questing, your bags are full and you just need a rest. Hit a hotkey and up pops your mobile store/cart and your set for business !
You can view all your items, check a little tick-box if you want that item to be viewable/for sale. Tick the box and the option to set price opens.
Once that is done you click open store and now any other player can see your cart/store and that you are open for business.
All they have to do is interact with your store (LMB/E button) and they can buy any of your goods. (not repairs or sell items) you sell / they buy... simple !

Aion essentially did this. Unfortunately it had many bad side effects. First it lets people stay logged in all the time which adds to server load (and producers will not keep adding hardware to make up for this). The private stores became nothing more then non stop Gold selling ads and of course 24/7 supply for botters to sell items so they could sell gold later

SWG had the best option for this. Players would set up a vending machine in their private houses where players could travel to and buy their finished goods etc. Of course this means adding housing etc

No, I think it would be boring after a few days. Just my opinion though.

Yeah maybe I shouldn't have used the AFK bit. I didn't mean it to sounds like players wouldn't time-out. The time-out/log out would still act as normal.

UO did this by letting people set up vendors at their homes. It works pretty well.

Aion did this and it made me cringe because of the sheer amount of gold sellers. They would set up shop in the most traveled areas of town and display their ad spam.

I do like the idea of being able to set yourself up as a trader and I don't feel it would take away from immersion if done like original EQ. If restricted to a trading only zone/building with no advertising it could work.

Aion bugged the living hell out of me with the way they approached the "marketplace" idea with the chat bubbles and all that jazz. But I did like the way EverQuest went about it though; and even though I really am not a big fan of "housing", it does gives those that are wanting "housing" a leg to stand on, which I can accept.

    Win/Win if you ask me.

If @ZOS wants to play around with the idea of having a "market area" instead of adding "housing", I thought @Lunamaru came up with a pretty outstanding idea.

Sounds fun, until you think about it, all you will be doing is talking and using an automated selling process (because it's a game and you don't actually handle money physicall). What's more, with limited inventory space and bank space, only a dedicated crafter could have a decent selection of items.

I would love to have player run/guild run store fronts available to all players - out of personal homes or guild halls.

We also need the ability for players to order items to be crafted - they choose the armour they want from what you are able to build or have listed as willing to build, they pay into a trust, you make make craft the item, items, and then when it is sent to them the money is released to you. This could/should be done from a store front interface as well.

I also do think we need to shift repairs away from NPCs to crafters. It should cost the base material (leather, cloth, metal, etc.) - an amount depending on how damaged the armour is.

Crafters need a way to sell what they make easier, and the game needs to drive in game money to them to help facilitate more crafting specialists.
