What is being done about bots?

conor.p.bradleyb16_ESO
Seriously - the game is overrun with them. I cant get to an ore node but 3 or 4 bots have already speedhacked their way to it. Reported about 14 this morning alone.

Surely it cant be that hard to code something that monitors player speed and if it's greater than sprint then investigate / suspend them?

Can the Devs give us an answer?

You would think so. There's already a system that kicks you off the server if you spam buttons too rapidly. As the server already has to constantly keep track of character locations, you'd think it would be possible to automatically kick those traveling at ludicrous speed.

You know what is odd. People keep telling me about "bots everywhere". But I keep missing them. The last time I saw any obvious bot was when I heard somebody talking about them and went looking for them.
If I sum up all the bots I saw (each single account) and everytime I heard about bots, the quota between both is approximately 1:1. A feat considering bots travel in groups.

Granted I do only play in main hours (16-24 German Time). And naturally there will be more in off times like "night/morning/midday"* becaue there are less players to be annoyed by them.

*You know those times when 95% of all possible players are at school, in bed or at work. The same timeframes they do maintenances currently because it does not affect many,

As a programmere I can say it is. In fact I can tell you that you told us one thing about yourself with this sentence: You have no idea about programming, computer game design and no MMO experience whatsoever.
Because nobody that has either of those would even ask that question.

What happens when I fall off something, clip a rock and go flying or use retreat with mundas stone, medium armour and other buffs? I flag myself to the GM staff and create a false report maybe even ending up banned.
Chances are it is hard to program, at least if you don't want to be banning players left and right, also how do you know that they haven't already done this and bad bots over it? They're not going to publicly announce they track bots by speed so then the bot creators can go and change their code to get around that.

I have to agree with the last poster, I don't see bots anywhere anymore. Every public dungeon I have been in has been bot free and I haven't seen any farming resource nodes and I must play 2-3 hours every evening (UK) and 15+ at the weekend... So where are they? :/

Honestly since they fixed the bot issue I knew of I have not been seeing bots that much...I stood at a node today for about 15 mins while on phone and no one popped up to steal it. I haven't seen flying people anywhere at all.

As I already posted on 2 other threads, I counted 104 bots in a span of 40 minutes last night using the teleport hack to a specific NPC in Alik'r Desert. Just because YOU don't see them, does not mean they don't exist......hear no evil, see no evil....right?

It does seem they're having to find new areas to farm each time though.
ZOS are battling and keeping up forcing them to find new quests which is a good sign, if there are less on farming nodes it means that battle is slowly going in our favour.

They're invisible, they stand around nodes, they fall from the sky and complete quests, they teleport between node locations, they fly, they float up into the sky around way shrines - And these are just resource bots.

Sorcerer pet summoning bot groups, templar spear spamming bot groups - And these are just low level gold/item grinding groups.

Bots acting normally and occasionally slip up so you notice. - Leveling bots that are even in VR. Hardly noticeable, occasionally may stack together when they use the same settings, or walk over lava or repeatedly stuck at rocks.

As a gamer and tech savvy person, it's hard to believe you're a programmer given that you don't even know these simple facts about bots; that you can assume their population is low just because you don't see it. You also sxck at statistics and calculation, if 100 people see it, and 5 people say they don't, do you think it doesn't exist? If that's the case, Septima Tharn does not only have a twin, she has an overpowering mutation too. Making these remarks about bots also show that you lack in MMO experience.

Which makes the next quote ironic. (it's already moronic that you could make such remarks)

Your investors/stakeholders may not have any of those. I would love to see you slap that statement in their face.

Nobody though touch screens were possible in 1990, yet now you have so many ways to make a touch screen or make it receptive to any stimuli you want. Nobody thought programming a game with destructible environment was viable without the game being ridiculously out of control, the mechanism is now widely practiced in the next gen games.

Customers do the thinking and have the wants, investors make the funding for money from customers, programmers do the work for the money to be customers. Everybody is a consumer. Everybody has a job. Shut up and do yours.

Unless you are able to grow your own crops, manufacture your own needs, self sustain everything. I highly doubt it, but will vote you for the next nobel prize if you could.
People keep telling me they're gonna buy me an ale. They never do.

To all those saying "I don't see any bots": take a trip around Auridon or other low level zones. They're infested.

Or Vinedusk Village in Reaper's March. Last time I was there it looked like this:

Yea, I thought ZOS had the bot infestation well handled until I ran a character thru the starter city areas and.......KABLAM. Hundreds of bots running around causing mass chaos. From zoom bots, to underground bots, to train bots, to flying bots, to tele bots, to node log bots, to quest bots, to no clip bots.....it was Botimax's greatest achievement in a game ever.

I rage quit after that. Unsubbed.
  • conor.p.bradleyb16_ESO
I won't unsub...I enjoy the game...just the bots detract from that enjoyment. Just wish they'd 'fix' it!

On occasion I just camp out a node location, there's one particular spot outside Phaer that has water/iron ore/rune all within 2-3 feet of each other, with FastReport mod active, and watch for 10 to 15 minutes at a time.

It's kinda rewarding to play hall-monitor sometimes just to witness and report all the bots that run passed that location at 6X normal speed, or appear/harvest/vanish, or to just notice that the nodes can appear and vanish within seconds with no harvester in sight.

It truly is eye-opening to see first hand just how much 'non-player' traffic a node can generate in a short span of time, and how the ratio of players/bots can asymptotically approach zero as the denominator soars.

And then I read all the comments from players who claim not to have seen bots, or claim that bots have almost no impact on the game and I wonder what game they're referring to.

I just wish there was an anti-bot caltrop mod available to us for purchase in the company store.
