ESO is like beer - The taste is worse the older it gets (Long Time Player perspective)

vaniverseb14_ESO
I have played since the first weekend beta, and I am a huge fan of MMO's and Elder Scroll console games, so this game really hit home for me. It was the first game since EQ, and Vanilla WoW that I was addicted to playing.

Throughout Beta and launch I defended this game, and told all of my friends and the reddit community that all games have bugs at launch. Some never played WoW vanilla nor care to remember how bad the original launch of the game was.

Fast forward 2 months since early access, and I find that even I am getting frustrated with the bugs. I dont care about the BOTs, I never see any to be honest, I didn't care about losing my bank space and all my money early on, and I don't care about the "difficulty" everyone complains about in the VR areas. What bothers me are the bugs that make the game unplayable, or just not fun.

Examples:

1. Blocking - I am able to beat most classes and even classes higher than me, except the DK with block. I don't understand how at V1 I can kill V7 players, but lose to a level 40 DK with block.

2. The 301 Error. the game has been out 2 months, and I am getting errors I used to get in Beta. Not being able to log into a game I want to play is very frustrating.

3. Cyrodiil Lag - Since the Craglorn patch, the lag has become worse. any ability I use have a 1-3 sec delay, and the abilities that are gap closers like Charge do nothing. Axe goes in the air and I stand there and keep doing it. after a few secs. I am out of stamina, and nothing happens.

4. Ability delays - The delay between abilities is horrible. I am a NB and need very good mechanics to survive 3 V4 mobs. but when I click 3 spells, they are not instant. after several seconds they all cast, but it is too late. so I click the abilities again thinking they didn't go off and cast them again, and run out of magika. ( if you call the ability instant, MAKE IT INSTANT.)

5. Not being able to see group member or mobs - My brother and I were in Cyrodiil, and we zoned into a dungeon. He couldn't see me or the mobs I was fighting, but I could see him. We got attacked by the enemy faction, and I am watching them kill him, and he said I am full health. Then he just fell over dead. He logged in and out several times, we disbanded and regrouped, and he even restarted his computer. it would work for a short time, then he would not be able to see anything anymore.

You gave the hardcore PVE player the content they wanted with Craglorn. Now focus on fixing the bugs, and having more staff to help. this is an MMORPG and with all the problems it is becoming an RPG. All my friends have quit except my brother, and both of us are starting to get so frustrated that all the GREAT aspects of the game are not enough to make me want to log in.

This article was posted in January 2014 by a guy at Forbes Magazine. I thought he was crazy, but at this rate, he looks like he was correct. Which pisses me off.

It is like beer. The older I got my taste changed. Early 20s beer was adequate. Mid 30s, I prefer something with flavour, body and frankly worth my money. So like your taste, just make the change ;)

There are things out there better suited to our taste and much more deserving of our money. This just isn't it.

edit: I was never a fanboy, hell I hate most ES titles (oblivion excluded) but I gave it a go in beta started back in November 2013 and did not for a minute believe the game could truly go live as horrible as it was. It did. It is everything and mmo is not and to involved for the single player type of gamers. I have a severe love/hate with the game. It was only tri-realm RvR that brought me here. That should have been driven by players but after live release it became apparent it would be dictated by bugs/ hacks/ glitches just like the pve side.

I have been left with a bitter beer face , wondering what the hell this game wants to be? single player? mmo? console? pc? It doesn't know and we don't know.

Nice one! Hit all the concern troll talking points!

    Silly click-bait title?
    Check!

"Credentials" paragraph saying how you love Elder Scrolls games and played ESO since beta along with a couple of MMO's you played?
    Check!

Talked about how--in the early stages--you defended the game! (Proves you're not a hater!)
    Check!

Went on to list a mixture of "unplayable" issues in this 55 day old game as if they aren't the kind of things that arise and get fixed constantly in any and all MMOs (even ones older than 55 days!)
    Check!

Oh, and bonus points for linking to an article where a writer who admits never having played the game basically just says all MMOs need to be F2P from the start so this one is doomed.

Fantastic job! Could almost feel your sincere, deep desire to offer constructive criticism for the game even as you threw it under the bus! Bravo!

Those seem like valid points. Number 3 and 4 are very irritating and pretty much take the remaining fun out of the game.

I do not agree with the author of the article though.

Ditch the beer, start nipping on the Skooma.
"Strive for balance of all things. When the scales tip to one side or the other, someone or somethings gets short-changed. When someone gets short-changed, unpredictability and strife unbalance the world around us...To achieve freedom from greed, from want, and from strife, all parties in any exchange MUST find balance." -House Hlaalu's Philosophy of Trade

"I am ALWAYS very busy, so I KNOW what's best. You need to stay away from the waterfall. TRUST ME, you're better off keeping busy than playing in the stream....Do you know how to swim, Little Scrib?"

    #SKOOMA!

Woah... woah... beer tastes worse the older it gets? Someone doesn't drink live beers.
The only negative experience in ESO is those that make it negative.

Be prepared to be challenged by people that would subscribe no matter how bad it is just because it has the Elder Scrolls name on it.

Want to become Vampire? 5k @ZiRM in game.

I appreciate the colorful and diverse feedback, however this thread was a statement of personal opinion directed towards Zenimax.

Since you all replied with such passion regarding the game answer me this:

Has the game improved over the last two months? If so, what is better?

My experience is that every time there is a patch to fix something, they break something else. Just yesterday I was in Ghartwood (sp) and EVERY mob in the entire zone would not attack. People were going through soloing Anchors and World Bosses solo, because nothing could fight back. Rollbacks are still happening, entire campaigns are crashing and laggy regardless of population, etc.

Hell the game was in a better state during the 2nd to last beta then it is now.

At this rate, ESO is turning out to be a more expensive Darkfall.
