Nothing in the patch notes about our little bot problem.

:< I was a little sad to see that their isn't anything written about the bots and what ZoS is planning on dealing with them.

I thought the secret hush hush for the 1.1.2 patch notes would be some warden system implementation.

They don't ever announce what they do about bots in patch notes because then it would be less effective against bots.

It's kind of like fight club.

Security 101 - Never blab overmuch (if at all) about what measures you are using to crowds of strangers that may include the very criminals you're trying to prevent/catch.

    In short:

    "Loose lips sink ships."

The patch notes generally apply to regular game-play. Behind the scenes there are likely other things that we won't see like improvements to CS and GM tools, better logging, alert hooks for people accumulating an above average amount of gold per whatever timecycle, code optimization for better overall response time, etc., etc., etc... Most things that I wouldn't care about, the notes are already crazy long.
Side effects of reading messages on forums can cause nausea, head aches, spontaneous fits of rage, urination due to intense laughter, and sometimes the death of your monitor or other object in throwing range. If you find that you are reading forums more than 24 hours a day, please consult your nearest temporal physicist.

Explaining or warning bots of how you gonna try to eliminate them isn't the best approach to the problem

Still...they could say something general like "- Added new measures to combat bots" or something.

It would be good for morale to let us know it's still a priority and being addressed.

Considering the number of bots in Coldharbour, one can conclude that ZOS has gave up on this issue.

Those type of changes aren't published in patch notes usually. But we will be able to see pretty easily if countermeasures have been implemented or not by simply logging and go to starter zones (or Coldharbour).

But how will we know how to adapt our bots if ZeniMax won't publish details?
Isn't this against the Freedom of Information act?

Or the 5th Amendment or something.
'Clever' sigs get old real fast - just like this one.

Security 101 - NEVER tell your opposition what you are doing.

While comments from the Forum Moderators or the occasional Dev may be made to the forums regarding bots, you should never, ever, ever, expect the company to make any kind of public announcement regarding patches/fixes/changes/tweaks that address the botting issue.

This would only serve to give a heads up to those people, and/or clue them in to what changes have been made so that they can get a jump start on trying to get a work around into place.

ZeniMax has repeatedly acknowledged over, and over again, that they know there is an issue, and that they are constantly working to address the issue.

Every legitimate player would love to see an announcement that says that the bot issue has been resolved, but that will never happen. Not because ZeniMax isn't working to address the issue, but because it will forever be an ongoing battle between the 2 sides.

Every legitimate player also has dozens of suggestions on how to address the issue, but what we do not have is the knowledge of what they are doing, and what the system is capable of doing, that doesn't bork the game for everyone else.

The best way that you can help is"

    1. Report bots, if possible, when you encounter them in the game. The more that ZeniMax can track them, the better idea they have of what they are exploiting in the game code.

    2. If you think you have a great idea for how to help address the issue, use the /Feedback function in game to submit your idea to them.

If ZeniMax thinks your idea is appropriate, and do-able, and would address the issue with creating a negative impact on the users, it may be investigated/researched further, and possibly, in some shape or form, be implemented in the future.

It's only good for the morale of people who don't know how security works. It's terrible for actually addressing the problem.
