What's with all the polls???????

Why are people taking so many Polls?
I don't mind when they are asking about what we want introduced, although I prefer an open debate myself, but people seem to be asking polls about nothing.

There is a poll about which is better the Fighters guild or the Mages guild, WHY? You join both, and they are both good, why choose??

Please if you are going to do a poll, make it about something worthwhile, please.

Or something completely absurd, like the poll about whether it was a poll (I chose "Bacon, it's always bacon")

You should make a poll asking if we think we have too many polls.

Some people like polls , what is wrong with that?

Not everything is serious , they are making polls , so what , they could also make the same thing in a normal thread anyway.

The problem is that a poll is a closed question, it predetermines the answers (mostly), and some of these would be more fun if they were open ended.

The genuinely fun ones I have no problem with, apart from the mages vs Fighter guild for some reason, it's the ones trying to gather votes for semiserious stuff, this is were the meat of forums is born (bad metaphor I'll admit).

I guess I'm just getting fed up of votes, might have something subconsciously with having to vote for council elections today.

    I like poles.

Though I think Alex would not mind polls if an option to vote "I have another suggestion, read my reply" exists, and that these people actually read the replies after asking a poll.
People keep telling me they're gonna buy me an ale. They never do.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's culture. And the Elves.

    No I wouldn't.
Mind you what you find is they get buried in the other votes, but the option of Other is always an improvement in a poll.

It's just that the good polls are on subjects that are excellent discussion material, and the poll sort of kills discussion, although a few polls ahave discussions going on inside them.

Though I tend to think some polls are meant to gather voices for the debs to take note. And I do agree it's getting redundant especially with the appearance of "FG vs MG"

    I think you misunderstood.
when I said "No I wouldn't" I mean't noI wouldn't mind, I was agreeing with you, to some degree at least.

But yes the polls are getting redundant, which is what I was inexpertly trying to say, and they do kill of a topic. Once the poll has taken place, if anyone tries to start a discussion thread on it, the first five or so replies will be "this thread already exists" and a link to the poll. Which makes a rounded discussion nearly impossible.

Someone wants their opinion stressed, they feel like people will support their opinion, and they create a poll to try and make a point to the devs. However, the devs don't base their decisions on polls, they might look and say a whole bunch of forum users want this or that, but the forum users count for a drop in the bucket compared to the actual size of the player base.
Side effects of reading messages on forums can cause nausea, head aches, spontaneous fits of rage, urination due to intense laughter, and sometimes the death of your monitor or other object in throwing range. And if the original OP doesn't like the results of his poll he'll start another using different wording. It's gotten totally ridiculous. I no longer ever read the threads.

This isn't "developer's discussion." It's titled "general discussion" for a reason. Polls provide a good subject for discussion. I will continue to create polls until I run out of good questions. I'm probably respnonsible for about fifteen of them at this point.

Maybe others, but I've never done this. I just really enjoy guaging the community, creating polls that are not one sided, and tracking the results. This is the only reward I get out of it, but it's totally worth it.

That's really vague. I'm not quite sure what you want. How many people here are VR10? Maybe you should do it, if that's what you want to see.

It's less annoying when there are a decent selection of options, far far less annoying. But when I typed this, this thread was on page two, and four fifths (apprx) of the threads there were polls, with a decent smattering on page one. Which Poll overkill.

Yeah. There are some polls I don't like. Like "Should the devs pay more attention to the community?" That's just obvious. I try to make my polls without obvious answers. Some people are like "Hey, man. I like pizza and hotdogs. Why do I have to choose one?" That's the point of a poll. It forces you to take a side, and it makes people debate more for their choice. I am sorry if some of my polls annoyed you. I did make the Fighters Guild vs Mages guild one. You can actually go to my profile to see which ones I made. There might be a few from others I've participated in though. I just geneuinly like them. I realy don't think devs are paying a lot of attention to forums. They're definitely not sifting through each post in General Discussion for trade tips. It's mostly just forum mods that make sure people are following rules and relay to us on what devs want us to hear. I will probably take a break from making polls for a while, if that makes you feel better.

No. Lol. Just explaining why I don't like polls with obvious answers. They leave no reason for discussion. My suggestion though, if you don't like a poll, don't comment on it. That just bumps it to the top for more attention.
