The problem is that a poll is a closed question, it predetermines the answers (mostly), and some of these would be more fun if they were open ended.Nox_Aeterna wrote: »Some people like polls , what is wrong with that?
Not everything is serious , they are making polls , so what , they could also make the same thing in a normal thread anyway.
I like poles.
Though I think Alex would not mind polls if an option to vote "I have another suggestion, read my reply" exists, and that these people actually read the replies after asking a poll.

No I wouldn't.
Mind you what you find is they get buried in the other votes, but the option of Other is always an improvement in a poll.
It's just that the good polls are on subjects that are excellent discussion material, and the poll sort of kills discussion, although a few polls ahave discussions going on inside them.
I think you misunderstood.AlexDougherty wrote: »I like poles.

I was wrong then.
Though I tend to think some polls are meant to gather voices for the debs to take note. And I do agree it's getting redundant especially with the appearance of "FG vs MG"
AlexDougherty wrote: »Why are people taking so many Polls?
I don't mind when they are asking about what we want introduced, although I prefer an open debate myself, but people seem to be asking polls about nothing.
There is a poll about which is better the Fighters guild or the Mages guild, WHY? You join both, and they are both good, why choose??
Please if you are going to do a poll, make it about something worthwhile, please.
Or something completely absurd, like the poll about whether it was a poll (I chose "Bacon, it's always bacon")
And if the original OP doesn't like the results of his poll he'll start another using different wording. It's gotten totally ridiculous. I no longer ever read the threads.

when I said "No I wouldn't" I mean't noI wouldn't mind, I was agreeing with you, to some degree at least.
But yes the polls are getting redundant, which is what I was inexpertly trying to say, and they do kill of a topic. Once the poll has taken place, if anyone tries to start a discussion thread on it, the first five or so replies will be "this thread already exists" and a link to the poll. Which makes a rounded discussion nearly impossible.

Maybe others, but I've never done this. I just really enjoy guaging the community, creating polls that are not one sided, and tracking the results. This is the only reward I get out of it, but it's totally worth it.
david271749 wrote: »"If gauging is your purpose, I want to see one with regards to the amount of VR10 at this point."
That's really vague. I'm not quite sure what you want. How many people here are VR10? Maybe you should do it, if that's what you want to see.
It's less annoying when there are a decent selection of options, far far less annoying. But when I typed this, this thread was on page two, and four fifths (apprx) of the threads there were polls, with a decent smattering on page one. Which Poll overkill.david271749 wrote: »This isn't "developer's discussion." It's titled "general discussion" for a reason. Polls provide a good subject for discussion. david271749 wrote: »Yeah. There are some polls I don't like. Like "Should the devs pay more attention to the community?" That's just obvious. I try to make my polls without obvious answers. Some people are like "Hey, man. I like pizza and hotdogs. Why do I have to choose one?" That's the point of a poll. It forces you to take a side, and it makes people debate more for their choice. I am sorry if some of my polls annoyed you. I did make the Fighters Guild vs Mages guild one.
