Repair Perk

Clothing, Woodworking, and Blacksmithing should have a skill for repair which can be added at later levels (40+) to allow characters to use resources at a station for repairs as opposed to paying the gold cost. It only makes sense that a crafter would be able to repair the equipment they can create.

I think just an option to repair at stations for items you are skilled enough to craft at a discount would suffice. There is already a repair option at merchants, just add it to stations.

I think I would leave the gold cost though, but reduce it since you are not having to pay for labor, just station time and resources.

    HODOR!!!
    ...Ahem, sorry..

You make a valid point but why do you suggest it for high levels. With your logic it should be available from level 1 as any armor/weapon one can create one can repair as well

ATM you can buy repair kits, but I've never used them and so I'm not sure how it works...

How about adding a repair option to your gear at crafting stations but requiring a certain amount of the same type of ingots/wood/cloth that made the armor to repair it? I'd be totally happy with dropping some galatite ingots to repair my VR4 heavy armor than spending around 1000 gold each time.

    Can't you buy repair kits?
I've never used one... But I know I've seen them.

That is what I am suggesting

Repair costs are by design, though I find them high, I do not foresee them changing the mechanic as it is a built in gold sink. That said, it would be nice to have a repair option at the station, with the cost paid there rather than going to the merchant. I am fine paying the same amount, but thematically would prefer to be doing the repair myself at the station, rather than paying someone, even if the cost is identical.

Repair kits are for emergency repairs out in the field, and as such are not cost effective, which is what's at the heart of the matter.

Once you hit the Veteran Game your Repairs skyrocket, but gold drys up, which they need to fix.

Yeah, but those resources sell for gold, and they take time to gather, and time = money. So it gets gold out of the system either way: either I pay my repair costs with materials, or I sell the materials and use the gold to repair, or I spend my time farming the materials, which is time I could have spent earning gold instead.

It's much easier to manage a single commodities flow, i.e. the gold, than if they also had to manage and express materials components as a direct monetary commodity. Though because of the lack of effective distribution for player equipment the materials have already effectively been monetized.

Though something like that would help "fix" a price to commodities. If you knew it took X amount of material to perform a repair you would have a direct correlation to gold equivalent. If it is more profitable to sell the materials then it is a change noone will use, if it proves less profitable it will devalue the materials, either way it creates a situation they would then have to monitor and balance as opposed to just shifting the direct gold cost.

There is actually a lot of thought that goes into these things, it is not as arbitrary as most people seem to think,

I would like to see a repair system that requires materials to fix the items. I get that repairs right now are a gold sink. But it would be nice to know we had options.

Just wanted to add, in order to fix something, you'd need to be able to craft with that material. Give crafters a better player market to sell off their skills.

    Agreed.

Doesn't make sense that a 'Grocer' merchant can repair my armor and weapons, but I, the person who created the damn gear, can't figure out how to fix it lol.

Won't open the market that much tbh as people who can craft will also look to repair as well.

For instance if I make Hvy Armour because i wear it, makes sense to pick up the repair option as well. Everyone else will do the same or have an alt that can do it.

Not everyone. Some of us have no desire to make an alt to make things more of a single player game than it already can be.

But if players could create repair kits as well, it could open the player market to sell them at lower prices than repair costs. "An iron repair kit." "A hickory repair kit," And so on.

Maybe it could be a max rank perk so only top craftsman can do it. This would allow for a gold sink most of the way through leveling but allow for expert crafters to repair their own things and things for others using resources.

I like this idea but I myself have never used repair kits. Do they repair everything or is it a piece per kit?

I believe they are a piece per kit... really there is not point to buying except maybe for instanced group dungeons... usually when we run low on armor in those we just take turns teleporting back to a merchant

Yeah, currently, there is no point in the repair kits. They aren't cost effective nor really helpful for general play. Migrating it to player crafting would be a start, but even then, it would still need a lot of help.
