If you’ve found this guide I’d assume you recently hit Veteran rank 1, Grats man.
Welcome to Veteran rank leveling.
I’d like to start off this guide with this disclaimer:
I’m not claiming that this is the quickest way to V10 it is simply the route that I took to achieve Veteran rank 10 and I felt it was relatively painless.
There’s no getting it around it veteran leveling is a grind, but here’s some food for thought. In classic WoW a faster than average time to go from 1-60 was around 11 days played, 1-v10 took me around 9 days played total, this is with zero starting knowledge of the game. A statistic I found kind of interesting when hearing peoples thoughts about how 1-v10 is a blocker for serious pvper’s..They’ve done longer and harder grinds before and I don’t think the veteran grinding will hurt pvp. More on this at the bottom of the guide.
This is kinda the reason I’m writing this guide because I feel Veteran leveling has gotten a bad wrap.
Now to the guide!
I assume you just hit v1 and maybe you’ve quested through about half of the first zone and now it’s sinking in that you’ll have to do a *** ton of quest to level to even hit v2. You might start thinking “Wow, how are there v10′s already. How did they get through this endless pool of quest.” I found myself here as well and wanted to figure a way to get my Vet ranks faster and that’s exactly what I did.
You might notice now that if you go into your quest log there is now a clickable book that’s called Cadwell’s Almanac. These are the required quest you need to complete before you can move onto the next faction. More about this later. Just note that you most complete all the quest listed under each zone to eventually progress to the v5-v10 zones for your faction. These quest also give DOUBLE EXP.
The first thing I’d like to talk about are POI’s or Point of interest. These all the group content achievements in a zone, they include: Dolmens,Public/solo Dungeons, and world bosses. The key thing to know about POI’s is the first time you complete them you get an awesome amount of Veteran points.
How I suggest farming POI’s is by creating your own group with a message similar to this:
“LFM The Rift group content clear (Dolmens, world bosses, dungeons) Full zone clear! PST”
You’ll need a group of around 3-7 players.
Once I find 3-7 players I let everyone know I’m the group leader by telling everyone to meet in 10 minutes at my location. This seems obvious but it lets everyone know who is leading and that you have your *** together. Then I state the only rule for my groups and that is “Wait for everyone before you engage bosses because it could be you stuck on the next loading screen.”
If you do decide to form your own group I’d suggest making sure you have a circular route around the map loosely planned before you start.
V1 – V5
You can start this part as soon as you enter Veteran content.
Create or find a group for POI farming for the v1-v5 zones. Go through each zone and clear every single POI for that zone. Each zone clear should take around 1.5 hours. Should give you some quick levels and some motivation to keep going.
Once you have go through and done all the POI’s for v1-v5 zones you should be around v4 at this point.
Now take a look at your Cadwell’s almanac and start doing those quest. Most of the almanac quest have the name of the location so they should be pretty easy to cherry pick. You may have to do some trouble shooting in finding the prerequisite quest before you can get that quest to complete the almanacs objective. Most of these quest are pretty easy, solo’d everything on my DK. Another awesome thing about farming all the POI’s before doing any questing is that you’ll be a few Veteran ranks ahead of the content so you can smash through it.
Once you complete the Almanac quest for each 1v-v5 zone. You’ll get a quest to go back to Harborage this is where you’ll continue onto V5-V10 zones for your faction.
At this point you should easily be Vet rank 5.
V5 – V8
I thought this part was going to be the hardest, I felt like I was still on the uphill climb. I couldn’t of been more wrong.
Once again do POI farming for all of the v5 – v10 zones.
This should get you to veteran rank 8 pretty easily. If you’re not v8 after this point go do some quest or continue onto the next step.
V8 – V10
Now that you are v8 you can start doing Wayrest sewers farming. Note that you can start this at v6 or v7 it’s just the amount of exp you’ll get is noticeably lower then if you were v8.
Sewer’s is a pretty straight forward dungeon. Get a tank that knows the fights and you can achieve 15-20 minute runs with good DPS.
In around 15-20 hours of farming Sewer’s you’ll be a Veteran rank 10 Badass. You’ll also have some v10 gear to put on right away that you farmed from Sewers.
And that’s it for the leveling guide. I hope this helps some of you approach veteran leveling with a little less trepidation.

Above I presented a pretty simple and straight forward plan to get v10 pretty quickly, but if you’re sill not into veteran leveling. Don’t worry, take it slow if you want. It’s not like when you hit v10 you become god in PvP or even solo world farming. You still can get rolled by a pack of 3 mobs. V10 for me was awesome because I felt now I could start working on my gear and building different sets. But really you could do this at any veteran rank. If Veteran leveling starts to become a chore go do some pvp I bet you’re v4 character can still take down some v10′s. At around v5 I rerolled an alt for about a week and had a ton of fun, it was a nice change from my main.
Anyway, play the game how you want; Veteran rank 10 won’t make you superman.
