The most annoying thing- Daily writs on characters you're still adventuring on

I don't know about y'all but this is legitimately my biggest complaint and it doesn't really have any solution that ZOS could implement I just have to basically get over it or change how I play around it.

So I have my characters right. I'm really only interested in doing writs on the characters that interest me, because if I have a dud character that I levelled up to 30 or something, I'm just gonna delete them. So yeah while you CAN do writs on a level 1 crafter with no effort put into them... I don't want to. I want to do it on "my" characters, the ones I'm actually playing actively. And that means that when I log in for the first time that day, I'm not in a city, I'm out doing quests with them. Which means I have to totally interrupt where I am in that quest/location and go to a city to do writs. And then when I'm done, I have go alllll the way back to where ever I interrupted my questing from.

I dunno, but it bothers me. Any suggestions? Lol.

Well I would think you could do whatever you want! I don't do writs on all my characters anymore, unless there's an event where I get something for doing them, like the Jubilee. So if you log in and your character is in middle of something, just keep on doing it. Do you feel that you have to do writs? Also, you may want to get the add-on Dolgubon’s Lazy Writ Crafter. Holy cow thank goodness for this thing for console. It's so fast. I wish I had it years ago.

I do feel like I have to do writs, because there's a lot of furnishings that cost gold and it adds up to millions. I had 1.2 million saved up but then I wanted to buy some crafting books for my main so that she could look cooler so now I only have 1 million.

I will say that "only" 5k gold per character a day feels really slow as far as gold earning potential goes.

As far as that addon suggestion goes. Thank you but it's fine, I don't need it. Doing writs is already easy enough. Just checkmark "have quest" and press R on keyboard. How much lazier could it be than that already lol. Literally installing the addon would be more effort than it saves, probably.

Approach quest board - Press E - Lazy Writ collects quests for you

Approach any crafting table - press E - Lazy Writ crafts the required items.

Approuch hand in point - press E - Lazy writ hands in quest, unpacks rewards and does what you've askrd it to do with them.

There are many settings to enhance the experience, it's a brilliant addon.

Might try my system: I almost always log out where I'm going to do my writs the next time I log in. If I'm in the middle of an instanced piece of content, then I finish that before logging out. Anything else can be picked up again pretty much where I left off; that's what the journal is for. And since I do my writs near both a wayshrine and a player home I own, the recall cost timer will have ticked back down to 73g (Wayfarer perk), recalling costs me nothing.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

I only do a set of 7 daily crafting writs on one character per day - that provides plenty of resources without tedium. She is absolutely a voracious adventurer as well but every day, we finish her off back home at her tree in Elden Root so she gets a good night sleep and can start the next day with a round of writs and take care of any other chores before she heads out to adventure. .

Do you have a home near a wayshrine, bank and crafting? It makes travelling and daily writs a lot easier (plus with the crafting add ons as others have mentioned). I also usually make sure I finish up any quests in hard-to-access areas (middle of nowhere or in instanced areas) before logging off. (Edit: I mean, finish them so I don't have to go back there. And I tend to try to end my session somewhere convenient).

This is what I like to do. I also prefer to decon all my gear, sell the junk, and get repairs at the end of my session, so I can be ready to do writs the next day.

Used to do that because multiple characters produce a lot of Bank clutter, especially during events, but I have three or four characters with enough skill points that I can fill out the extraction passives without shorting anything else and have them decon when it's their turn in the queue. But when housekeeping was totally on the crafter, they were the last character to do anything and always cleaned up before logging off.

Just go back to the city at the end of your playtime and you won't have that problem. Whenever I was questing in Morrowind I would port back to Vivec City at the end of playing and next time I logged on I could do my writs and move on with questing

Same, except I always port back to Leyawiin.

    My routine on login:

    1. Do writs and turn them in (includes deconstructing anything from the day before)
    2. Open writ reward containers
    3. Change my non-combat pet (different one every day)
    4. Get my hireling mail

    -Adventure!-

My routine just before logging off:

    1. Port to Leyawiin
    2. Open any reward containers I've earned.
    3. Go into Sally Forth Goods and sell stuff. While there, say hi to Scritches (still not pettable!!!!)
    4. Leave, stand near crafting area, log off.

Ah, yes, if you need lots of money. Sorry, I wasn't thinking about that, I've been playing so long. But I still say lazy craft writer is amazing and the way to go. I would just park all my alts at the crafting stations. I like Solitude, Leyawiiin, and Alinor to turn in quick. Like the others, I don't know of any other solution than to end the game in a city so you can quickly do them. :/

Maybe. I like to wrap things up before logging off so it’s a fresh start the next day and I’m not faced with a full inventory where I can’t get the writs done.

    Whatever works best for you.

It's your choice that you log out in a location where that cleaning and organizing can't really happen, just as it's my choice that situation almost never happens. Unless the servers crashed and left me stranded wherever (it has happened and probably will happen again), there is no need to travel back to wherever I was because I'm at the same start point every time. Each session starts the same way (daily writs and clear out daily writ junk) and each session is supposed to end the same way (get set up for the next session). "Always leave the shop cleaned and organized before turning off the lights" is a reasonably straightforward system.

A lot of people start their day with writs, but obviously you don't have to. But I agree with the posters that, whatever you do, you can always choose a routine that works for you. I have a pretty disorganised way of doing things, and will just do whatever I feel like. But I always try to be efficient, so if I'm questing and happen to be in town, I'll do the inventory cleanup and crafting then. And it's not a big deal if you miss a day of writs; if you're concerned about earning gold, you can just spend a few minutes wherever you are to nab a few treasures from a container and fence/vendor them.

I'll add that I actually really dislike complicated or slow travel times in games. Like I found TES3 truly painful to travel in, but even modern games don't always make it easy for you. And I find travelling in ESO to be very well set up; there's usually a wayshrine within a 15 second ride, you can port for free to your home, and you can port straight out of dungeons, which is great. So if you choose a routine that works for you, the hassle can be minimal.

Someone unrelated but related - I think the amount of daily FOMO ZoS has put in this game.. personally has reached disgusting levels. ZoS has always been about 5-7 years behind the trends and is always on the backfoot. We got rid of mass pushing daily FOMO into games to drive player retention numbers years ago.. yet.. they keep adding more. We got rid of seasons in games pretty much 3 years ago... they just added it.

Yeah it's bc they don't care and their player numbers reflect that. ESO has one of the lowest active player numbers out of all of the mmo's on the market and the only way for them to maintain profits is to squeeze the few people who are still playing it.

Just looked it up. Estimated 100-170k daily active users for ESO. Runescape OSRS 500k. FF14 2 million. Wow 3 million.

i have suggested a while ago that it would be nice to have more writ locations especially in smaller towns that you are lead through during questing. I would absolutely love to my writs in Koeglin village, or in North Point or any other small settlement that i visit during my travels. The lore could be that we help the local people (instead of the war effort of the 3 Banner war)

I have 8 characters all max level in all the crafts and I do writs on them every day when I first log on. I do this because I am into housing which is an expensive hobby to maintain.

Some of these characters still have several zones to quest in, but I never log off out in the world in the middle of a quest. I complete the quest then go to that character's house to log off. This way all my characters are ready to do their writs when they log on and can do their quests after that.

For real. Even I've been thinking about giving the game a shot again. I tried it years ago, thought it was kinda stupid, and didn't get very far. It would be a good game to play while playing other games, too. I love the game's music, and the primitive graphics mean it doesn't have to sacrifice on scale or believability.

    Completely wrong.
Daily Writs is one of the best (if not the best) ways to earn a steady daily profit. Yes, it takes time to reach the “top end,” but once you’re there, you’ll make ~2 million in weekly net profit (20 characters, daily Writs every day), and it’ll take you ~1 hour and 15 minutes a day (including colecting Surveys)...
So, about 8 hours a week, 2 million gold = 250k net profit per hour. That's not bad. (Yes, it takes a lot of work at the beginning...)

I tried crafting on my main characters when I first started and quickly found it inconvenient enough that I made a dedicated crafter.

This is one of the reasons: my free time is limited and unpredictable so I can't count on being able to choose a convenient time to stop playing when I'm in between quests and ready to go back to town, so doing daily writs meant constantly interrupting a quest to go back to town then back to where I was before, which was annoying. Especially if they weren't close to a wayshrine.

My crafter pretty much stays in the city except when I go out to collect materials from surveys, so he also manages shifting stuff between the bank and storage chests and updating the guild trader.

I made him an Imperial so I didn't need to buy that motif (at the time it was one of the rarest and most expensive) and because I almost never have ESO+ he also holds a lot of materials to keep bank space free.

There is the steady, reliable income from the gold but selling master writs you don’t need can generate some additional revenue too.
