about ‘useless’ skills

like the advanced for greatsword charge that boosts damage based on travel distance. Does this perk even have any practical use‑cases? I’ve never seen anyone use it. Could we gather statistics on other skills that barely see any real‑world usage like this?

You can have a lot of fun with that skill and a gap closer.

Left to their own devices, people will use skills that other players consider useless.

I'm still not over the fact they deleted Malefic Wreath, and that was how many years ago?

Are we talking about Scalding Rune or whatever it's name is?
Cause I'm talking about that trap-like skill.

Also, of course some builds make even the most useless skills useful.
Whenever some skills are useful or not is subjective after all.
    I personally find it useless.

Scalding Rune is from Mages Guild skill line and is used in prebuff/nuke situations.
I think you might mean the Rune Prison. Yeah, I don't know any situation where you would use this in PVE. Might be useful in PVP.
The third thing I could think of is the Daedric Mines, but the shield morph is pretty useful for healers.

So I think you mean Rune Prison. And yeah, I agree when it comes to PVE - useless. But PVP might have use of it.

No no, I meant the Mage Guild's Skill line.
Rune Prison belongs to Sorc's Dark Magic skill line.
And yeah, it's typical PvP skill, all things considered. You can stun a normal mob, sure, but it feels like a waste of magicka on trash mobs that can actually be stunned.
Enemies you really want to stun are usually immune.

It does have a morph, Defensive Rune I think, where it's a minute-long buff that stuns next enemy that hits you; stunnable or not.

I checked, and it's Fire Rune (base skill) I'm talking about.
It's a trap that arms itself after 2 seconds, then lasts for 20, it's hard for me to imagine it's usefulness outside of situational ambush in PvP or immobile boss in PvE.

Even if to me it's useless, I wouldn't be surprised if any skill we talk about here is part of some powerful high-end-pro-meta setup that requires precise timing to deal nuke damage I'm just not aware of.
I mean, NB's ult from Shadows was mentioned as "truly useless", but I myself like using that skill on one of my tanks.

Oh, right. My bad. I have no idea why I was thinking Sorc skill lines and thought "hey, that's not a sorc skill. That's Mages skill!"

Yeah, the Mages rune has the damage+dot morph for PVE and knock+stun+damage morph for PVP.
It does have a morph, Defensive Rune I think, where it's a minute-long buff that stuns next enemy that hits you; stunnable or not.
Yeah, that could work in PVP.

The other morph is pretty useless. Who would use it in PVE? And since it only deals damage IF the stun lasts for the full 3 seconds, it is also pretty useless in PVP. I don't think even the newest of the new players would let the stun run the whole 3 seconds.

Hard disagree. The Darkness in its name gives me power in ways that can't be measured.

ive seen scalding rune used for PVE as a kind of "prebuff dot" for people optimizing parses, though in the current game i think its less used than it used to be

for the other rune that does knockup, ive seen that made use of in pvp, usually by various ganker builds
