Weakness to elements and vateshran destro

Now that elemental susceptibility has a cost vateshran destruction staff has been indirectly nerfed quite hard. It needs it’s duration increased to match that of the skill. Vateshran destro staff requires the skill to be recast every 10 sec making extra gcd the “cost” of the effect as the skill itself is free but with ele sus costing mag, it’s going to cost a lot. The opportunity cost of the set becomes simply too high, the set bonus isn’t a “bonus” at this point but a trade-off. And ele sus is still better than vateshran destro with ele drain. Not completely useless like draugrkin but only due to the fact that there’s no replacement for it.

Ele drain has long been in dire need of buffs. Ele sus is so good and ele drain so so bad that it has simply been forgotten. Currently ele drain offers absolutely nothing of value, 1min duration is redundant, free cost is irrelevant with such long duration and magickasteal is always covered already from the abundant sources of magic damage (overcharged being the associated status feels bad though as it kind of sets magic damage back a little compared to other dmg types with dmg focused statuses).
If needed ele drain could even have cost added too or duration halved, 30s is plenty already, or both in exchange for some actually useful and meaningful buffs.
If ele sus is being touched it would make sense to bring ele drain in line too, as it’s currently bad the same way ele sus is good.
Why do we only ever get nerfs and not buffs when they are needed so much more.

Sorc uses vate destro, so unfortunately it now has to be nerfed too

That staff and skill has been complained about for years. That it gets a cost means nothing when most proc sets require a skill that costs something to activate anyway.

Vate Destro and Resto are the outliers having procs that don't have a cost. And that's beside the point anyway, with the main one being that most skills have a cost. Though we can point to some that are questionable (HP cost skills), it still doesn't change the reality that most damage skills have a concrete cost.

That the skill won't be mindlessly spammable is actually a good thing from a balance perspective, because it'd only be spammed if you wanted free damage or procs of sets that synergize with the skill without any real cost.

^ This nerf also prevents a future where the skill could have become problematic down the line.

It cut your build, tough. But everyone should have an idea of what will and will not be nerfed by now before ZOS even announces the nerfs.

I certainly won't miss all the tanks running that staff for free damage and never cutting into their sustain while it costs me mag and stam to counter it.

Yea ill be honest buffing it sounds silly when its the de facto option when not using a backbar set. If anything other sets should be buffed to be nearly as viable as vat ice

I can see reworking drain but sus always needed a cost. Vate staff is great as is in my opinion.

You want easy sustain then take the free one. You want damage added to damage, that's going to cost.

Actually yeah.. Drain needs a complete rework, but so does Sus honestly. Vate is fine. The cost does nothing really because it's still overloaded and can't be dodged like most ranged attacks.

    Was hoping for something like:

    Staff type decides bonuses
    2400 Magicka
    20s instead of 30s
Shock Staff = Concuss every 4s instead of Concuss, Burning, and Chill every 7.5s
Shock Staff = + 100% Concuss chance for caster

This way it's less of a 1 button does 6 debuffs situation with insane uptime and a ton of free damage comparable to 20s dots, while also providing an avenue for specialized builds to focus on their given element.

But sure. Let's just throw on a messily cost to it after like 5 years complaints with 0 changes to anything else.

I agree, it needed a cost and while it’s unfortunate that it affects content like IA (in other words, I feel the change really should have targeted PvP via Battle Spirit instead), this change is more than appropriate for PvP. However, if you still want/need a free source of breach the other morph still supplies that without issue.

Thank you for the changes to Ele Sus in PvP devs!
