Streak needs a CC nerf

On behalf of average players everywhere who, for example, spam Streak to get themselves out of awkward situations without calculating the stun bit, can this constant calls for nerfing flipping skills just stop.

    Please.

While I understand your gripe, this isn't how you balance things.

"This skill is overloaded but the average player doesn't even know it so please don't nerf it"

    Make a better argument.

Streak is not getting nerfed lol. No valid reason to nerf this ability at all.

"No valid reason at all" is a pretty hard claim to make when I've already given several specific reasons for a nerf.

I've pointed out that Streak is an instant AoE CC that is unblockable and undodgeable, has no meaningful target cap, deals damage, and is attached to arguably the strongest mobility ability in the game. There isn't another ability that comes close to combining that level of utility, CC, and mobility into one skill.

I've also explained why the lack of a target cap is particularly problematic in group PvP, where small groups and ball groups can use it for instant mass CC.

You don't have to agree that those things justify a nerf, but simply saying there is "no valid reason at all" without addressing any of them isn't really an argument. It's just dismissing the argument without engaging with it.

If none of those are valid reasons in your view, then explain why. That's the part I'm interested in hearing.

You forgot to mention it's a 15m skill shot that requires aiming and fails to work on uneven terrain and against mobile targets.

Imagine calling a 6×15m area a skill shot. LOL.

You barely need to aim — just point Streak in their general direction and you're hitting them. Calling this a skill shot like it requires precision is ridiculous. It's arguably the easiest CC in the game to land.

Easiest CC to land lol. Javelin is a max range CC that's way easier to land.

Javelin isn't really comparable to Streak at all.

Javelin is single-target and dodgeable, and its base range is 22m, so calling it "max range" is misleading. It also doesn't benefit from Cyrodiil's range bonuses in the same way abilities with a lower base range do.

If you actually want to compare Javelin to a Sorc CC, Rune Cage is the much more appropriate comparison. Rune Cage has significantly more range and can reach roughly 41m in Cyrodiil with the relevant range bonuses.

And that's before getting to the obvious difference: Templar doesn't have an AoE CC equivalent to Streak. Sorc gets both a superior long-range single-target CC and Streak.

Streak is an instant AoE CC that is unblockable and undodgeable, has a massive hit area, deals damage, has no meaningful target cap, and simultaneously functions as arguably the strongest mobility ability in the game.

So comparing a dodgeable, single-target Javelin to Streak because "it's easier to land" doesn't really tell us anything about Streak's balance. You're comparing two completely different types of CC.

Honestly, if you can't even identify the basic differences between these abilities before making the comparison, you're not really contributing to the balance discussion. You're just throwing out whichever Sorc/Templar ability you remember and hoping nobody checks the mechanics.

They will say anything, respond multiple times in a row with several ‘straw men’ arguments just to keep overpowered tools in a state that is vastly unhealthy for the game in every capacity.

Streak does too much and needs a nerf- End. Of. Story.

Ball of Lightning was nerfed a long time ago as it was overperforming and now streak which has always been egregious needs an adjustment as well. The fact you invalidate gap closers by spamming it and stunning on cooldown is completely ridiculous.

Make the damage apply the concussion status effect after removing the stun or have the stun only occur at travel location.

I wouldn't call rune cage superior to javelin. The kockback allows for landing an extra ability after which many ccs don't, it actually does good damage especially at 22 meters, since it scales with distance and ignores armor.

But regardless I still think it should be left. Sorc has big penalties for not slotting actual sorc skills on their bar and if you nerf more of their abilities into oblivion it causes more and more issues.

I'm not asking for Streak to be nerfed into oblivion or for Sorc to lose its mobility identity. I'm asking for the CC component to have some reasonable counterplay.

Pretty much every other CC has to give something up. Fear requires you to get into close range, while other AoE CCs are blockable or dodgeable. Streak bypasses all of those normal restrictions while being attached to the strongest mobility skill in the game.

Streak can remain an excellent mobility tool. I just don't think the CC should get to bypass every normal restriction placed on other CCs.

Sorc already lost its mobility when everyone has access to movement speed tools. Asking for Streak to be nerfed is a slap in the face lol. You want Streak nerfed? Remove easy access to mobility then. It's infuriating to see a Templar or DK sprint as fast as my Sorc when my class is supposed to be the fastest class in the game. What a joke

I also think Streak is a bit overtuned specifically as a CC. No one is calling for its mobility to be removed, so I'm not sure why you keep bringing up Sorc's mobility in this thread.

Someone else gaining access to movement speed doesn't mean Sorc somehow "lost" its mobility. You still have Streak, and it remains an extremely strong mobility tool.

And I still don't understand where this idea comes from that Sorcerer is **supposed to be the fastest class in the game**. That's a player-created class identity, not some rule ZOS has established. If you have a ZOS statement saying Sorc is explicitly designed to be the fastest class, I'd genuinely like to see it.

Until then, "my class is supposed to be the fastest" isn't really an argument for leaving Streak's CC untouched.

The discussion is about whether Streak is overtuned as a CC. Other classes gaining access to movement speed doesn't change that.

DK didn't need reflective wings. I don't really see why Sorc needs streak.

Because Sorc's theme is lightning. The class has been fine for years. Don't touch the parts that arent a problem.

Sure, the theme is lightning. I would be totally fine with stream if it pushed a sorc through the ground. Then it can be better thematically.

Honestly, if Streak only stunned one player or was blockable, it’d be a much more balanced skill. Power creep, especially regarding sustain, has turned Streak into an absurdly spammable mobility tool, while also making it ridiculously strong offensively.

It simply does too much for how few drawbacks it has. The increasing cost used to be what kept it in check, but with the direction the game is heading, where sustain is becoming almost irrelevant across multiple classes, its offensive capabilities should be adjusted. Either that, or its cost needs to be increased significantly to account for modern sustain levels.

Javelin is not a meaningful comparison to Streak in the first place.

The basic problem with Streak is pretty simple. It's a button that lets you move through a group, damage everyone, and instantly stun everyone you hit, while the people being hit can't block or dodge the CC. Then the Sorc gets to keep moving.

That's an enormous amount of value from one ability, especially when there's no target cap. You don't have to be an expert in ESO mechanics to understand why giving one ability that many advantages might deserve another look.

Nope. Shan’t. Too old and too tired for this constant bs about ‘nerf this nerf that’ when the majority of players do not care, and those that do will just find the new meta to follow, leaving the majority wondering why a skill that was fun & functional no longer is either.

If you aren't going to then just don't comment. Making horribly flawed arguments like this does absolutely nothing to further the conversation, if anything it just makes the side you are advocating for look weak. This argument is also just as weak. "The majority of players do not care." Do you need me to give you an analogy of a scenario in which people don't care about something going on and how that doesn't mean it should continue? Surely I don't. Argue from a better angle, [snip]

Whether or not streak needs to be nerfed is based upon how well it compares to other CC.

I didn't write that post. You responded to someone else who was comparing Javelin to Rune Cage.

Regardless, I don't think Javelin is a useful benchmark for Streak. Javelin is a single-target, dodgeable CC that requires you to commit to one target. Streak can sweep through an entire group, can't be blocked or dodged, deals damage, has no target cap, and lets you continue moving immediately afterward.

Those are completely different levels of utility, so saying "Javelin is better than Rune Cage" doesn't really tell us anything about whether Streak's CC is overtuned.

Yea I’m sorry but even if he didn’t port you were not catching that man lol. If a Sorc wants to get away and they’re not an npc level player you’re not catching them.

In fact he probably only slowed down to port in the first place

He Streaked 3x in a row. You don't do that unless you need to get away.

Lol that video is ridiculous. So sprinting and locking your stam regen and ability to cast skills is the equivalent to streak where you instantly cross a distance, can blockcast to reduce damage taken if needed, and then can turn your camera to plan your next GCD. Alright. Streak is too weak!

Your video actually shows that streak is freaking OP. A competent sorc could LOS and become unhittable and negate damage in the same way a NB cloak negates damage. If you actually managed to get close, streak stun would stop you again.

Also you had hurricane, most classes do not have Minor Expedition in their kit. If a class builds 3x swift they lose damage.

Please do the opportunity cost between streaking 3x in a row vs casting Quick Cloak and sprinting for 4s and tell me which drain more resources.

Sorc was the fastest class to make up for its weakness of having little defensive heals. Unless you're telling me a Templar should be able to move as quickly as a Sorc??

Just give it up. Streak is NOT getting changed. Yall can complain all you want but at the end of the day it is here to stay. Deal with it lol. Personally I have no problem vs Sorcs or how much they Streak. DKs and WWs pose bigger threats than these pesky Sorcs.

I think you're moving the goalposts a bit. You said Sorc is supposed to be the fastest class, and I specifically asked you to show me where ZOS has actually stated that. You still haven't.

You're also arguing from a 2018 class balance philosophy as though it's still the current game. The old argument that Sorc's mobility compensates for its weaker defensive healing is much less relevant now with subclassing, scribing, and class mastery. Sorcs can access tools like Healing Soul, while Conservation of Energy is itself a class mastery, so those old class tradeoffs aren't nearly as rigid as they once were.

And no, I'm not saying Templar needs to be as mobile as Sorc. I'm saying that other classes gaining movement tools doesn't mean Sorc has somehow "lost" its mobility.

If you have an actual ZOS statement saying Sorcerer is explicitly designed to be the fastest class in the game that isn't from 2015, I'd genuinely like to see it. Otherwise, you're presenting a historical player perception of Sorc's identity as if it's an established design rule.

More importantly, none of this actually addresses the original argument. The thread is about whether Streak's CC component is overtuned. If you think the CC is balanced, argue that. Telling me Sorc is supposed to be the fastest class doesn't explain why an instant AoE CC should be unblockable, undodgeable, have no target cap, deal damage, and be attached to one of the strongest mobility abilities in the game.

Well you have to understand, the line in Digital Media Theory "all media is a production." Everyone that plays on live knows the deal about streaking sorcs, almost always a losing battle one way or another. And part of that is literally the CC on it. Which is what is being discussed in the first place.

Also I can see it being adjusted, which is why I don't slot it on my sorcs.

I'm not moving the goal post. Sorc was one of the few, if not the only class with access to Minor Expedition via class abilities up until Summerset.

You relying on ZOS as the authority makes your case worse, especially when the combat team demonstrated a lack of PvP experience during one of their BG streams. You don't refer to ZOS to talk about balance. You refer to the top players in the game who spent years on a class and know it inside out.

Uh hello?? Sorc did lose mobility because people are faster..If I moved at 80mph while you moved at 50mph, and you suddenly gained 10mph, the gap is now 20mph instead of 30. You are no longer faster relative to other people. That is literally how math works..

And yes, Streak is supposed to behave like that for the risk it has and the class' inherent lack of defensive heals. That has been a thing for years up until U50.

I don't really care what your argument is. They all fall short the moment you step into Cyro and fight people. There is a reason why Sorc only became meta after U50 class masteries and were basically nonexistent

Neither do they use Forbidden powers, since none of their skills incur a bounty, nor do their skills synergize well (they need to rely heavily on world, guild, and weapon skills). ZOS’s description reads more like stand-up comedy for the class — though maybe that’s true for other classes too lol

By that logic, Sorcs gaining access to Healing Soul means Templars have lost healing, because Sorc now has access to tools that previously helped distinguish Templar defensively.

That's obviously not how this works. Other classes gaining access to tools doesn't mean a class has somehow "lost" something or that every historical class tradeoff has to remain frozen forever when the game has changed drastically with subclassing, class masteries, and scribing.

Have you gotten around to addressing the actual issue yet — why Streak gets arguably the strongest CC in the game by a mile compared to every other CC, while also attaching it to the strongest mobility tool in the game?

Even if that's true, doesn't it go against the point you originally made? Your entire point was it's easy to catch a sorc streaking and now you are saying you only streak that much if you need to get away, which he as able to while streaking. Also, I watched the vid, the person if poorly jumping and slowly walking after casting streak, what kind of argument is that? Is your argument, "yeah, if you streak and stand still after or walk as slow as possible in-between streaking, someone moving faster than you will catch you" If so I don't think anyone is going to disagree, the point is, every single time he is streaking, he creates a meaningful distance from you. Someone can still move slow and completely outpace you as long as they streak, so much so they can cast other skills in-between the streak that slows them down.

    What is your actual argument?

Sorc was the fastest class to make up for its weakness of having little defensive heals. Unless you're telling me a Templar should be able to move as quickly as a Sorc??

You're leaning way too heavily on historical Sorc balance. Summerset was eight years ago. We are not balancing the 2018 version of ESO anymore. If you're going to argue that Streak is balanced because of class tradeoffs that existed back then, you need to address the current state of the game, not nostalgia for a completely different PvP environment.

Yes, Sorc's relative speed advantage can shrink when other classes gain movement speed. That's basic math. But Sorc didn't somehow "lose its mobility." Streak still exists and is still an exceptionally strong mobility tool. You're confusing losing some relative advantage with losing the actual mobility.

And your "Sorc is supposed to be the fastest class" argument still has the same problem: you haven't established that this is an actual ZOS design requirement. Historical access to Minor Expedition doesn't prove that Sorc is permanently entitled to be the fastest class forever.

The defensive-healing argument is even more outdated. Subclassing, Scribing, and Class Masteries have fundamentally changed the old class tradeoffs you're relying on. Sorcs can access Healing Soul, while Conservation of Energy remains available through class mastery. You can't keep treating the class as if it's frozen in 2018.

And "go play Cyrodiil and you'll understand" isn't an argument. I've been talking specifically about the CC component of Streak. If you think an AoE CC should be instant, unblockable, undodgeable, have no target cap, deal damage, and be attached to exceptional mobility, then explain why those properties are appropriate in the current game.

That's the actual discussion. Not what Sorc looked like eight years ago. Live in the current game, not 2018.

Sorc was the fastest class to make up for its weakness of having little defensive heals. Unless you're telling me a Templar should be able to move as quickly as a Sorc??

You are arguing semantics. Sorc's whole identity was a hit-and-run class and it relied on positioning/CC to survive. Take a look at the class' defensive kit. Dark Deal/Conversion heal is a fixed tooltip locked behind a channel that can be interrupted. Crit Surge is a heal that requires dealing critical damage to proc, so RNG based. Hardened Ward has no heal attached anymore.

Even if you consider Healing Soul burst heal, Sorc still does not have good defensive healing compared to other classes prior to U50. It needs to do damage and position well to survive, or else it dies. People who only played classes with good defensive heals generally struggled when they hopped on Sorc because they never developed the skills required to pilot that class.

So when ZOS made movement speed readily available, Sorc lost its edge yet only gained minimal compensation in return. It's laughable that you are trying hard to argue semantics when I'm in Cyrodiil getting chased down by DKs and Templars moving at max speed while on my Sorc. By definition, Sorc lost its mobility because other classes are faster. When all classes can move at speed cap, there is no gap, hence mobility is lost.

Please stop arguing semantics. It sounds fancy, but it's fundamentally flawed.

Honestly, this video doesn't paint Streak in the light you think it does.

The player you're chasing is walking between casts instead of sprinting, so they're making a pretty poor effort to actually escape. Meanwhile, you're sprinting at full speed the entire time and still can't catch them. If they had been sprinting between Streak casts as well, they would've created even more distance.

So you have someone making a mediocre effort to escape while you're making your best possible effort to catch them, and they're still outpacing you. That's not exactly compelling evidence that Streak's mobility is weak.

And again, this thread isn't about nerfing the mobility. The issue is the CC attached to it. The mobility can remain strong while the instant, AoE, unblockable, undodgeable CC gets some reasonable restrictions.

I think you're trying pretty hard to sound like you would do better than that person in the video. I don't think you would. We can always put this down to a test in game. I don't think you'd be able to get away from me just by Streaking though.

This doesn't address anything being discussed in this thread and is completely off topic.

The thread is about the CC component of Streak and whether it is overtuned. Nobody is arguing about Sorc's healing toolkit, how difficult Sorc was to play historically, or whether other classes have gained movement speed.

You can make whatever argument you want about Sorc's historical class identity, but none of that explains why Streak's CC should be AoE, unblockable, undodgeable, uncapped, damaging, and attached to its mobility tool.

If you want to debate Sorc's mobility or defensive healing, make a thread about that. It has nothing to do with the actual proposal being discussed here.

Are Sorcerers the 'shield-stacking class' too? I mean, nowadays even DKs can put up an insane amount of shields. When I first started playing, I thought Sorcerers 'tanked' by stacking shields whenever they didn’t want to streak away — kind of like a 'mana shield.' They’re supposed to be the 'pet class' as well, but their pets are absolutely useless in PvP. Has it always been like that?

By the way, I think Streak deserves some nerfs, but Sorcs should definitely be compensated for it.
