Imperial Race best Alliance ?

Which of the three Alliances would be best for a renegade Imperial to join ?

He/She/Them has to be a renegade as the three Alliances battle the Imperials for control of Cyrodiil.
During the afternoon of Loredas, 6 Sun’s Dawn 2e578 a big piece of Aetherius fell to Nirn. It was the first major piece of Aetherius to fall on Nirn in more than five hundred years. It scattered around the world as millions of shards. It was rapidly documented by Lady Cinnabar of Taneth in her pamphlet Aetherial Fragments that "... when three shards meet, they re-form into a silvery prism by unknown process and confer the power unlocked by the merger to a nearby being." The Order of the Black Worm, commonly known as the Worm Cult, reappeared in Tamriel shortly thereafter and some of its members are avidly searching said shards.
In the last week of First Seed 2e579, an arcane explosion occurred in the Imperial City — a night of storms, and trembling terrain. They named it the "Soulburst". That day Emperor Varen Aquilarios disappeared without a trace. His wife, Clivia Tharn, ascended to the Ruby Throne as Empress Regent under the guidance of the Necromancer Mannimarco. Ushering a time of increased instability within the Empire of Cyrodiil which finally grew into “The Three Banners War”.

I would say the Covenant as what the Bretons want is most similar to what an Imperial would want from their rulers, a country ruled by a King. From lore we know that Breton politics is somewhat similar to Imperial politics, so it stands to reason that many lost Imperials take up land in Covenant lands. I can also see maybe Pact as well as for Jorunn ruling the Pact, another human, but the Dominion might be a hard sell. Tho with the right reasons, anyone can do anything.

I remember reading that the covenant is closer to rebuilding the reman empire, where as the dominion looks down upon humans and the pact want some decentralised council or something. So as an Imperial the covenant is a more lore friendly choice.

Daggerfall is very imperial friendly, wants to restore, make agreements...
You also see that around Skyrim (great war).
Pact is very independent, "leave us allone".
Dominion is very imperialist, "were better and taking over".

If I remember correctly the 3 Banners War started after Queen Ayrenn became leader of the First Aldmeri Dominion. Best leader ?

It also started after the other two leaders had become the leaders of their respective factions. And just after the Soulburst caused the centuries-long instability of the Interregnum to explode into actual chaos.

The timing of Ayrenn’s rise to power and the formation of the Dominion actually seems quite contrived to allow for three realms rather than just two in ESO (for which presumably thank Matt Firor, who helped pioneer RvRvR with DAoC). But there were already two factions and an empty throne and the Soulburst (just the year or two before) and all that came with those things. The underlying circumstances that drove the factions to war (the untenable chaos they sought to end in general and in their own favor specifically by taking the Ruby Throne) would still have existed without Ayrenn and the Dominion. Yes, Ayrenn and the Dominion undeniably played a role in the events. But faulting her more because of the closer timing of her accession alone is a post hoc.

Best is also subjective. Considering what I saw of them through all three alliance questlines, I prefer Ayrenn’s characterization (especially as a leader) to that of the other two. There’s still much to be critiqued, no question, but if I have to choose it will be her. I understand why others may hold different opinions, though.

I would say that a renegade Imperial would fit in the Daggerfall Covenant or Ebonheart Pact.

The Covenant has common values with the Tamriel Empire : trade, strong written laws, honor, duty, and a great passion for oppression of ethnic minorities (Orsimer in that case).
The Pact also shares some principles with the Imperial : stupid bully strength and lack of thinking, honor to the point it's lawkey stupidity, duty and loyalty to the most powerful that erases one's individuality, racism and oppression (to Argonians, Khajiits, Rieklins... some Dunmer Great Houses even proudly display their love for slavery)...

Whatever you do, Imperial, don't come in the Dominion. We care for each other, our laws are more about oral traditions and adaptation to the land, our Altmer brethren see our Khajiiti neighbours as allies and friends, we Bosmer are free spirits who love nature and guerrila tactics, and we have a young, progressist and benevolent queen. Everything the Empire despises.
