I got rewarded a cool looking item from a quest but how do I use it in my Outfit?

I've tried everything and searched everywhere in the UI and I just can't find it or understand what's wrong. I even bought another outfit slot to see if that was the issue.

The item is the "Daggerfall Champion's Breastplate of the Wyrd Tree" and it's a really pretty royal blue color so I wanted to wear it, but my character uses Light Armor so the only option was to go add it on an Outfit. But when I went to the outfit station I just couldn't find it anywhere in the listings. I filter by heavy armor and it still doesn't show anything. I search for it using keywords and still nothing?? I equipped it to, to learn it, and still nothing.

Is it bugged or? What do I have to do to use this appearance I don't get it. Everything else, whenever I put it on, or I sell it, the game will always say "Something something appearance unlocked".

Could be heavy Wood Elf, as it’s the motif of the set.

According to the UESP Wiki, that's actually a specially named piece of the Wyrd Tree's Blessing set. Have a look in the Zone/Glenumbra for that set, and see if it's listed as an option.

Google would have saved you time and money.

"Because it is a basic racial style, you cannot save its appearance simply by completing the quest."

The good news is that it's very easy to get a hold of the motif.
It's part of a base game motif book - namely Crafting Motif Book 2: Breton Style.
You can probably easily find a Breton motif book in a guild store.

When you hover over an item, the top left corner of the pop-up will have the name of the motif. Unfortunately, the outfit station will have different default colors than what you’re looking for, but if the blue you were seeing is from trying the armor on, it might be the “crafter dye” of that level (the ones named “rank [number] materials”).

Yeah no google didn't really tell me anything bc I didn't know what to search for.

Thanks @ everyone for the replies! <3

You can probably find the motif book in a guild merchant if you don't run across one.

Wait so I went and bought the craftin motif (it was actually Crafting Motif 5: Breton Style, it took me a long time to figure that out lol) and I learned the book.

Then I went to the outfit station again and it's still not there as an option? The Daggerfall Champion's Breastplate of the Wyrd Tree.

Like I see Breton style heavy chestpieces there, of course, but none of them look like the armor I'm trying to get.

And then I thought well okay maybe I just need to craft it, since I learned a crafting book, so I go to the blacksmithing station (this character is my crafter her Blacksmithing is really high at 30) and I still can't find it?

I don't understand... This is a pretty convoluted system to get an appearance that I should already have unlocked by getting the armor piece like so many other armor pieces that said it unlocked the appearance when I sold the item.

I thought maybe I could just buy the item itself from a player who learned the book AND crafted the chestpiece, so I went to guild traders and searched for "Cuirass of the Wyrd Tree" and each one I saw was this weird red color and it didn't look like the one that I'm trying to unlock the appearance of

I believe it's actually the book "Wood Elf Style" (book 3) you're looking for. If you check the link to the UESP wiki for the set, I believe that's what it says there. I don't know why you were being told it was Breton style.

ETA: The specific one you were looking for is a "unique" version of the base set equivalent, so it may come with unique colouring? Don't know, as I've not specifically looked at that one. The other thing to note is that the set is not craftable, as it is an overland set. If you want to review it, you'll need to go into the collections menu system. Look for Set Items, then IIRC look for the alliance/zone.

I know why the confusion, It's happened to me before. For example, the Wyrd Tree's Blessing is originally a Wood Elf motif, but the QUEST REWARD version of it is a Breton style. So if OP looks in their sticker book for the set, it would show up as the Wood Elf version. I think this has happened to me in Coldharbour? where I might get a Nord style piece, but the sticker book has it as a Daedric item.

UESP has the exact chest piece as a Heavy Breton as well

OP should check their guild bank for the base race motifs, they usually have 50+ of each

What level was the item you’re trying to recreate? The red you’re seeing is most likely rubedite from it being cp 160 gear.

Thanks for the help. So I don't think it was the wood elf crafting motif. Apparently dyes are a thing I didn't know about either so I deduced well maybe I do have access to the armor piece now I Just didn't know it so I went back to the outfit station and I *think* one of these Breton heavy armors matches the quest reward chestpiece I was given, it's just... blank... Like an unpainted warhammer figure.

Anyway so I go to the dyes section and I don't think I have any dyes unlocked or if I do i dunno where to find them such that I can use them. It's just a blank interface with no selectable dyes.

I'm still confused about why I can't just use this exact quest reward as an appearance

After buying the Daggerfall Champion's Breastplate of the Wyrd Tree I can CONFIRM that it is indeed Breton style.

@Glorious_Platypus when you choose the style at an outfit station, make sure you choose the HEAVY version and look between the 1-4 different versions to see which is the same as the one you picked up (the older original styles have slightly different looks based on what material is used to make it. So they have 4 different variations of the same outfit style). The original color isnt going to matter that much. You can just dye it to however you want it to look at an outfit station (make sure to select outfit 1 at the top left corner).

If you do NEED the base color to be the same before dyeing it, then you will need to craft that chest piece at a blacksmithing station at the same level as the one you originally picked up.

You're thinking of the Cuirass of the Wyrd Tree. Which is a different armor piece from this. The one the OP is looking for is a special piece from finishing the Glenumbra storyline.

@FlameDark you got that completely right, it is the quest reward I got for finishing Glenumbra story. It's a beautiful color combination.

Anyway, apparently I don't have ANY dyes unlocked? Even though I've been playing for like 6 months now lol... So my optimism in being able to unlock the royal blue color and the gold is pretty low. I could just google it but what's the fun in that

When you complete the Daggerfall Covenant story (going through all five zone areas. The last one is Bangkoria) you get a nice blue for it. You also get a pretty decent blue for completing the mage's guild storyline. As for gold, the best easiest of the nicer looking ones is by completing the Aldmeri Dominion story. Although in my personal opinion, Transliminal Violet is the best gold for metal. But you get that one from defeating the boss underneath the Imperial City sewers... so not very easy to obtain unless you're in a group, and are willing to PvP to get there.

@FlameDark Ah that would explain why I don't have any dyes unlocked because they are all really hard to get, and that's fine. The way that I play lol- I have 1 AD main character, 1 DC character, and 1 EP, and I'm kinda just progressing through all the zones on all of them casually. And on my DC character I did Summerset and 100%'d that zone (didn't get any dyes from that though lol)

Here you have a list of the eyes in ESO and the achievement needed to get them. If you click on the achievement link it will show you what is needed to get it.
    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Dyes

In the outfit station UI there is a little checkbox to show locked dyes, but sadly we cannot preview any locked dyes to know if we want to get it or not.

Okay I swear it wasn't like this last night when I was learning about dyes, but now I do see that there are some dyes to choose from and a lot of them have little locked icons on them and some of them don't so I can use those ones.

But this wasn't here yesterday like the "dyes" interface wasn't showing ANY dyes - locked or unlocked ones. And so I concluded that I must not have unlocked any of them at all.

If you have something typed in the little search window the dyes will not show as long as their names doesn’t match the search. Might be what happened.

If you complete the Savior of Summerset Achievment you get Shrike Blue dye:
    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Savior_of_Summerset

So, I recommend going to the achievement page for Summerset zone in game and seeing which of the achievements you are still missing.
