When did you start getting into Housing?

Housing is like creating a map for your D&D campaign. The point for me is to create a roleplay setting.

I absolutely loathe gameplay added to housing. WoW did this with garrisons, and it was a huge flop.

Gameplay/combat buffs/etc in housing leads to less interactions between players. It leads to isolation in times when people are logging into an MMO to experience multiplayer combat.

BDO has combat buffs tied to housing. It's easily one of the most tedious hated things in the game. Players complain about the annoyance of having to make a pit stop before engaging in combat. Almost ready for that boss pull? Nope. Billy over there forgot his home buffs. Now everyone has to wait. I hope ESO never does BDO's mistakes.

Housing as a cosmetic-only option with minor things like crafting stations is perfection.
ESO's design for housing being cosmetic is perfection.

I know and I see your point because I played in Warlords of Draenor and garrisons were SO dumb. It doesn't have to be "real" buffs, or "real" usefulness.

An idea. Just make it so that my character CAN sleep in the bed so that when I log off in the evening, they get in bed, and when I log back on, they wake up. That'd be cool. Or maybe have some houses be in the open world and not instanced (only you can change it, nobody else, they can just see) and NPC's can come in an rent a bed for the night because you are selling rooms and it is an inn - it wouldn't be any useful amount of gold generated, it would just be fun lol

Love housing and have won several contests, but not nearly as creative as so many out there! I have several houses that I haven't even touched yet.

But I do get what you're saying as far as a house really isn't necessary as far as a boost or gameplay, but owning a bunch of places all over is also good for fast traveling. But yeah, it is expensive and it's not something you can get into right away but work at like being a grand master crafter. I've been playing for over 6 years and still don't have every plan. I don't do trials and vet dungeons, so I've lost out on some of those furnishings. But it's something to work towards.

@SerafinaWaterstar I will not be joining any guild. Well, maybe a trading guild. But that's it. No socializing for me, no fake friends that you play with for 6 months or a year before the group falls apart due to drama or the "glue" person goes off to college. Lol. Thanks for the suggestion though.

    @SilverBride That's insane, nice

You don’t have to be that social, or make ‘fake friends’. The suggestion was more that you can get help & support & advice.

(And most people I know in this game are older so don’t have to worry about anyone going off to college!)

It's so funny because the primary reason I was, and still am, drawn to ESO is not because I'm a diehard Elder Scrolls nerd (:joy: what a flex bro!) but because of the game's seemingly robust housing system.

But ironically I haven't touched ESO's housing yet. It's very daunting. There's this great mystery of how to actually get, and make, furnishings for the dwelling. I don't know how much there is out there to get but it seems like a lot, and I have a grand total of like... 7 items. And I have NO CLUE where to get more. And I've been playing for months dude.

And I don't know what the uses of it are. It just seems like playing doll house, like there's no function to it. If there was some real roleplay functionality to it, it would be so good, but there isn't. Like if my character had to rest every night and owning a home let him do it a lot better or cheaper than in an inn or something, or it gave my character a well rested combat buff. Or something. Like okay, you can put armor stations in your house... So what? Why should I care about that?

If housing is just "I'm gonna make this empty room look pretty" and that's it, then I'm kinda not understanding it. Thoughts?

    Never. Wish housing didn't exist.

I have made some good friends playing MMOs. I've been friends with someone in ESO for about 6 years now... could be more. We are friends in the sense that not only do we do things together in game but we know some personal information about each other, too. Things that real friends would know.

I am friends with someone I met right after WoW released, some 20 plus years ago. We haven't played the same game together in quite awhile now but still keep in touch with texts and phone calls. I consider him as real a friend as any I have met in "real life".

    ?
Guess many would disagree on this; but besides, housing is the easiest thing to ignore in the entire game...

I started ESO in 2020 and started a RP guild pretty immediately after joining. I joined ESO specifically with the intent to RP though I went from the idea of Vampire RP instead to Mara-based RP which was a 180 lol.

When my first officer joined, she suggested that we get a guild house to have as a base. We spent an entire evening visiting all the houses that were available at the time and we decided on Mathiisen Manor. I bought the furnished one and that night we had our first RP with 4 people.

Was a memorable time and we used that house for a year, with some small additions from members like the kitchen and some sitting areas outside and upstairs, and finally a huge donation of a greenhouse we put over the very shallow pool we could all sit in but not swim in.

We eventually moved on to larger homes owned by other members (specifically the new GM's Psijic that we turned into a Chapel) but that first home will always feel special.

I have 4x 30 slot cases full and 3x 60 slot trunks full and a furnishing safe getting full.

That is the main reason for my houses at this point.

Btw anyone know if possible to get more 30 or 60 slot trunks/suit cases?

I crafted and upgraded to legendary a lot of sets, often with multiple traits and armour weights and don’t want to Decon.

As for answer to OP. I got into housing some 10 years ago. Completely decorated a house in grahtwood. Built a maze in there at one point then since I hit the limit/cap of items in the house I tore down the maze and built a throne room in the sky above.

There is also a really nice bar garden haha.

Haven’t been able to bring myself to decorate another house since then.

Btw I never crafted my own furnishing at any point, I purchased everything from guild stores or vendors.

If I was doing it again I would probably buy furnishing plans though. Probably cheaper.

I started Housing with Mournoth Keep as that house has the added bonus of being next to a wayshrine and an Anchor, so it was always very useful for me. I did a Reachwood manor type of house, with Reach involved characters, items, shrines, and insides. The house and build are also still up on PCNA @SilverIce58 and I welcome visitors!

I mostly like to do regular ish home designs, but from the viewpoint of an Argonian living there (love me an Argonian home), so many of my houses are filled with plants, stonework, and wood. I do love the regular Black Marsh homes too, like the Lakemire Xanmeer is especially one of my most valued properties. Though I do quite enjoy the Stay Moist Mansion, the Humblemud (I gave it 2 floors inside and out), and the Ample Domicile (host to some Lizard-like mounts) as those are natural mudhuts, easy to decorate.

Its sad that people hate player housing as it has been a staple in the Elder Scrolls already for basically the entire time. Daggerfall had housing you can buy, as did Morrowind, as did Oblivion, and certainly as did Skyrim, so I'm not quite sure what the surprise or concern there is of "smh why did eso get housing?" Bc we've always had and will continue to have housing. Elder Scrolls 6 is even probably going to have Settlement building too if Starfield is anything to go from.

There are 4x 30 slot chests and 4x 60 slot chests, so if you only have 3 of the 60 slot chests you can get one more.

I tried it, seriously, once. The small room in Rimmen. Respect to all those that manage to persist and create interesting homes, I just don't have the patience

I bought my first house to be able to decon gear in peace. I guess that was maybe 7 years ago. I enjoy housing but I don’t care to spend all of my real life money on it so I have never been really good at it. I am just trying to learn all of the furnishing plans out there and decorate my houses to please myself.
