The fact noone from ZOS is responding and just saying what's up says something is up.

They're usually silent on the subject of crown sales. That's not much of an indicator.

This is accurate. We normally do not comment on sales. If we do, most of the time it's to note on of two things.
    1. When a sale is actively live.
    2. Or to note we cannot comment on a sale. Please make sure to keep an eye on our social channels for future sales updates.

In this case, please make sure to keep an eye on our social channels for any future crown sales announcements.

Also, we don't normally run multiple sales actively at the same time. Currently, the only active sale is the Bethesda 40 anniversary sale.

LOL, "it's not often we have sales, but were not having a sale!"

Do not need ANY of the 40th sales... I got them ALL at FULL Price over the 40 Years!

Crowns though, well, I Always get them to give to others for Gifts, Not going to need as many nowadays sadly the Online friends are reducing.... Yay! everyone left gets better Presents

It's possible the crown sale starts when the bethesda40 sale ends.

Since the invention of the answer, there have been five answers rated the most directly indirect, the most "I can't say, I'm just saying". This one left them all behind. The end.

appreciate the feedback, but honestly discounting eso from 10 to 5 bucks that you can find on discount every other week somewhere is not exactly a huge benefit to anyone :D

To keep the same language going, it is more likely than not that if there ever is another crown sale it will take place after the bethesda40 sale ends.

This official response is actually baffling. I think this is one of the worst things I've read from a ZOS official in a very long time.

My educated guess is that the relevant department - I remember job listings for FO76 specifically for monetisation, I guess is the same in ZOS? - keeps anything regarding monetization 'very close to their chests' and the community team is just not at liberty to disclose.

Yeah, pretty much this. We've noted this before, but we cannot talk about sales timing or anything in that nature.

Which is - from a business side of view - completely understandable.

The standard price for Crowns is widely seen as too high compared to the digital rewards available in the store. Management might think players will eventually buy them anyway, but they are making a fundamental economic mistake.

Customer attrition analytics, players ARE buying crowns anyway. Just like Las Vegas has done, Microsoft calculated an increase in profits if they let the customers with little disposable income fall off while they focus on extracting more money from the customers that can afford it. Last week I spent $300 on crown crates just so I could get enough Mad God's Monarch Flocks to fill an entire garden. I'm a fool with my money, but I am not alone and Microsoft is banking on the housing whales. I would guess most of ESO's crown sales are due to housing & furniture FOMO.

Unfortunately for all of us, customer attrition is only a Band-Aid covering up the fact that you cannot have an economy which grows in profit indefinitely. At some point we are going to be living under technological feudalism wherein corporations no longer care about profit because they own everything.

Hey @VileNord , thank you so much for this incredibly detailed explanation and your sharp insights!
Your breakdown of customer attrition analytics and the 'whale-focused' strategy makes perfect sense from a corporate perspective, even if it’s frustrating for us as players.
Your outlook on tech-feudalism is deeply thought-provoking.
Also, thanks for your honesty! :)
Spending $300 to fill a garden with Mad God's Monarch Flocks is the ultimate proof that Microsoft's strategy works perfectly!
At least your garden must look brilliantly insane now.
Appreciate you taking the time to share this perspective!

    ;)
