Combine Stam & Magicka into 1 simple "Power Bar"

ESO could be further simplified by eliminating Stamina and Magicka by combining them into 1 simple 'Power Bar'. The stamina distinction of block, sprint, dodge roll, etc should no longer unfairly favor 'stamina' over magicka as a resource since many other elements of the system no longer respect a clear distinction between these two resources.

that will likely never happen, for one at that point it wouldnt even be an elder scrolls game as thats something that basically EVERY elder scrolls game has

not to mention sustain would be destroyed because everything would be pulling from the same pool, the current game is built around being able to cast skills of both resources so while your using one the other is recharging

I was thinking this too. The further we get into hybridization, the less it makes sense to have separate mag and stam. We can already use magicka to block instead of stam, so that concept already exists in the game.

You guys are forgetting that this is Elder Scrolls Online, not another game.
Elsewhere, "mana" or other terms are used to define a generic power, but here we are in ESO, where we historically have Magicka and Stamina.
We cannot/should not violate the foundations of the game.

I totally agree with @Rishikesa108 here.
First, you proposed merging the Fighter's and Mage's Guilds, and now you want to eliminate Magicka and Stamina entirely for a generic 'power bar'.
This constant push for over-simplification is exactly how games lose their identity.
Managing separate resources and choosing distinct paths is what makes an RPG meaningful.
If we strip away all these foundational elements just to chase total hybridization, we are no longer playing an Elder Scrolls game.

The problem in ESO is a communication of information problem. I highly doubt anyone finds it confusing that there’s a magicka and stamina bar. It’s common in the concept of fantasy to have a mana reserve, so even non-gamers can probably figure that out.

No, it would cease to be an Elder Scrolls game if that happened. Stamina and Magicka have existed since at least TES III: Morrowind

I think it's weird that blocking can cost magicka if we want instead of stamina, but here we are.

I personally don't think we need to constantly look for ways to redesign the foundational core combat of a now 11 year old game. This would result in numerous other areas needing reworks, such as many sets, CP stars, bonuses and effects in certain dungeons, armor passives and other abilities. Sustain and skill costs would have to be entirely rethought. Then they'd probably need to start another class refresh to bring all the classes up to spec with the new system.

Not to mention simplifying yet more builds and playstyles out of the game. We might as well take it down to just 2 buttons for "attack" and "defend". I'd rather they spend their time on fixing the huge backlog of existing bugs and issues; giving us new, challenging and exciting content; and following through with the *current* class refresh, which is already looking like it'll take years.

Yes. Hybridization has been left in an incomplete state, and this is one of the steps that would fix it. You are correct that the balance between magicka and stamina is broken because both are used for skills but stamina is also used for movement, and separating into one bar for powering most/all skills and one bar for defensive tactics and movement would fix this balance issue.

I’d prefer them to go the opposite way at this point and reverse hybridization. It won’t happen, but the more hybrid the game gets, the less fun(and unbalanced) it becomes to me.

No. I love being able to use mag for offense and stam for defense/offense or the reverse. Two pools make building fun. If it were only one pool, then that simplification would actually result in a nerf for me since I can balance stam and mag usage (and I did so and ran hybrids long before ZOS officially supported it anyway).

Also we've seen how ZOS handles overlap with the templar and sorc changes. If that is how they would handle overlap after resources would be consolidated, I would rather we keep what we have now.

most build can't use all skill only cast stam or magic, like all endgame tank is block use stam, but skill 80% is cast magic(and recovery main is magic recovery)
so if this change be real, pve tank/healer will dead soon
for a tank , 1 power bar not enough block/roll/give buff/taunt/use proc set
unless the recovery becomes 2-3 times(4-6k+)and blocking not loss all recovery

I do think Skyrim as a TES game and Falllout 4 have already overdone accessibility and simplification with the conversation system, skill system etc... so at this point any further simplification would imo hurt immersion and level of interest and I do hope TES VI will scale up complexity with their systems a bit again...

I can do you better : let's forget everything roleplaying games and fantasy have brought to videogames and merge HP, stamina and magicka bars.
After all, when you're hurt, you barely can fight or use magic anymore, and if you die, you can't do anything at all. And let's remove these complicated skills too, the character just needs to handle a couple weapons with simple moves, be taken by the hand to complete simple quests so the game is as easy as possible.

Go play Assassin's Creed if you don't like RPGs, please.
Elder Scrolls games are meant to be at least a little intricate.

I don't think merging stamina and magicka bars is a good idea at all. There is a specific roleplay fantasy in Elder Scrolls, and like many fantasy RPGs, it is reinforced with the separation of physical and magical resources.

I think the bigger issue is that most damage in ESO scales with both the higher of your weapon and spell damage, and the higher of your stamina and magicka. While I don't think they should remove scaling of damage from stamina or magicka (because I think there should still be a damage tradeoff between putting points into sustain or health), I do think they should combine the scaling so any split between stamina and magicka still results in the same effective power.

The further we get into hybridization, the less it make sense hybridization itself. Anyone that played this game since the beginning can tell you that the game was way better without hybridization, that hybridization was a bad idea, and should never have happened. Hybridization cut in half the specs that you were able to play, creating less build diversity, not more. Creating more build diversity was the whole selling point of hybridization, and it miserably failed in this aspect.

Please no more blanket hybridization in this game (QoL with pots/stone/etc., okay sure)

We used to have a minimum of 2 separate build paths (mag and stam) for each class. Then came ‘highest stat’. Then came subclassing.

    Just no, never, nada.

Not sure if this is a serious suggestion or bait..

Currently my tank uses Stamina for blocking, and Magicka for healing (self and group). Combining those into one power bar would reduce my ability to do both/either effectively.

The obvious answer perhaps? Increase the Power pool..

Ok, now what about tanks that don't provide active buffs and heals but do it passively from sets? Now they have ungodly block, the ability to sustain without having to manage resources as much (or at all, depending on buffs/pots). Sounds a little unbalanced.. now translate that to PVP, I don't do much PVP but there are already 'unkillable' tank builds.. I think this would only make it worse.

Resource management, making meaningful choices with build and in combat is what makes it interesting and engaging.. the KISS (keep it simple, stupid) principle isn't always the best route.

Really what is the difference? They both use a resource. Historical agreements are fine but this game has long since moved past any resemblance to original lore and been better for it in most cases. It would clean up so much and keep things simpler.

I think it's weird that blocking can cost magicka if we want instead of stamina, but here we are.
Because things like wards and barriers exist in this universe. Multiple Skills have the words in their names, multiple spells throughout the franchise focus around those abilities. Blocking consuming Magicka can 1000% be taken to mean you're channeling Magicka into whatever you're blocking with to reinforce it and essentially make it like a ward.
