The Cyrodiil Mystery!

So for the last week I've noticed somewhat of a mystery in Cyrodiil:
  • Players who can take several ultis to the face in quick succession and take no damage
  • Players who can run as fast as, if not faster than, a mounted player
  • Players who can seemingly heal themselves from near 0 to max in one cast
  • Players who can appear from nowhere
  • Players who can die and be back the same fight within a few seconds

I'm sure we've all seen this in Cyrodiil, so what's the mystery you ask?! This is happening in Vengeance, and because of the limitations of the ruleset it becomes a lot more noticeable than in old Cyrodiil.

So, care to comment @ZOS on what could possibly be causing such strange occurances? (As if we don't already know)

I did report a AD player who self ressed. A whole group of us DC all saw it. We thought maybe he got ressed by a nightblade, but it happened on more than one occasion for it not be a bug or a visual glitch.

Someone in the Vengeance NA chat, did point out that being in skeleton form seems to make you run faster. Not sure if it is intentional or a bug, that has just been discovered. Maybe ZOS will need to look into that one.

I logged into Vengeance on AD and a player joined our group. Castle Bloodmayne was owned by DC. The lead said we should retake Bloodmayne, and as I opened the map I saw a party member port to it directly from across the map. Ok? Are they actually on DC faction and died at a fort to port to Bloodmayne so quickly? We met up at a resource, and I saw their name floating a few feet away from us, but not their character body. Then they left group. [snip] Floating names happen in regular overland if someone is in a different instance. It was very weird. Is it possible, while within Vengeance, to invite someone in Blackreach/Greyhost into the same party and you'll see their chevron in Vengence?

I have a possible answer to the last mystery.

My guild group were assembling at the AD base wayshrine and one of them had the 'floating name but no body' thing. We found out that he was in the Blackreach campaign while we were all in Vengeance! Same Alliance (so still able to group), different campaign.

This would also explain the fast port mystery as well, since the player COULD port to Bloodmayne in the other campaign if it was in 'friendly' (AD) hands there.

Yes. Many years ago a guildee came to join me in pvp. I could see their name bar but not them, and after a discussion in chat, primarily because they were fighting in a keep that belonged to an enemy faction, we realised we were in different campaigns.

It was late & we both had been drinking. Rather amusing at the time.

I've heard people talking about Cyrodiil exploits for years, but thought they were confused. Today I just saw some AD loser noclip flying around the map with a scroll. He was doing it for hours. The AD forces were following him around like he was a bloody hero. I've never thought worse of my fellow players, and I'm not sure when I'll PVP again. I'm always going to be wondering if other players are secretly cheating, just in a more subtle way than PVP Walter Mitty.
    I care what you think.

Nocliping is the farthest you can go with actual hacking in eso, everything else like resources and stats are all server sided. They just do it to either sell their hack or to troll.

What server is this on? Also curious to see the video tbh.

We don't talk about it (because even discussing the bugs can get you banned according to forum rules). I'll just say this: trigger either augmenting or opposing beneficial states and see what happens. Then you can also run around with damage dropped because the game does not have a method to handle the inconsistency.

I´ve played PvP for years now and had it the first time yesterday in a battleground that someone was literally at 0 HP, so that my HUD actually said "dead" on their health bar. And they went to literally 0 HP several times, while then proceeding to eat my entire combo and still not dying. Was one of the very few times I actually considered someone being a cheater, or maybe the game bugged out and/or it was a visual bug. When I asked how they got that to happen the very snarky answer was that "I should read Arcanist skills and I´d know". Weird tho that I never had actual immortality when playing Arca in the past.

I wont rule out people doing shady things, but this is unfortunately a fairly common occurrence. Have seen it on enemies, and thought "the heck is this?" but having seen it on allies (who, if they are cheating, it isnt helping them) and have had it called out on me. I think its related to damage shields and desyncs on a death, much like the psijic bubble animations remaining on me when i die with it triggered in higher latency fights. Cant confirm that this is how any of it works, just seeing a correlation, so I dont suspect broken health bars to be anything in most cases.

So the same guy who was on yesterday in Vengeance (NA) and stealing the scrolls for AD is now on EP doing the same thing. And switching between both alliances.

As well as flying and going underground with scrolls, he is now teleporting to the gates to return the scrolls.

ZOS needs to seriously do something about this, as it effecting the score of the campaign. @ZOS_Kevin

DC players have reported the guy on mass.

He'll just come back right after the ban. Accounts are super cheap for them to buy. Doubt he'll be banned on the weekend anyway.

I don't have clips but I've seen him take scroll from Rayles and port all the way to Kingscrest to drop off at Temple Chim. I'm not sure what's going on but we're reporting because he's cheating/griefing really bad.

It is a visual bug. Has been discussed before: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/675586/arcanist-health-desync

I'm a full time EP player, but I'm not going to play while someone is cheating even for my own side's benefit. If this isn't the first time someone's done such blatant cheating during Whitestrake's, then they need to have a GM on shift for the duration of the event. Two straight days of a one week event spent wasted by cheaters is a wasted event. And here I was looking forward to playing with the weekend crowd.
    I care what you think.

There is a lot of people doing exploits and breaking TOS in cyrodiil. Not BGs though.

Seen players heal to full hp by bar swapping without casting anything and no one around them that was healing. I have seen a YouTube video of a guy that did this and had a 50k non crit heal just by bar swapping.

Seen players run max speed but incredibly tanky, and have high damage. I have 3 swift 3 medium and major and minor expedition but they’re faster than me.

Seen players with the almalexia proc and mara’s balm cleanse while wearing Gorethief and rallying cry.

Lots of players using macros with controllers. I’m watching them do perfect weaving rotations with block canceling, bash canceling at nothing but air when fighting. Break free and go right back into automation mode at the same speed. Can’t even stay on target but can do flawless parsing.

Seen players Dodge roll frags and merciless bow procs max distance with their back to me and no one around them, or being chased by players.

Stalemate with certain players stun me and I can’t break free despite being full stamina. They’re doing their rotation then just pause for a second or two, and then stun me. No lag.

I’m not saying every good player is doing this. But it’s quite a lot of them.

I've seen plenty of shady things in cyrodiil, so this is not a comment to say "youre wrong git gud" or anything, but I do want to add some very possible legit scenarios for all of these things, because knowledge is power, and understanding is the first step to overcoming. a lot of people put a lot of time into fine tuning the math of their builds, and I do think even knowledgeable and skilled players sometimes underestimate combinations in ESO. I get called a cheater .... nearly every day that I used to pvp, from "radar hax" (using eye pop in stealth and detect pots to clear keeps) to "canned macros" (timing skills/projectiles to land approximately the same time for a burst. this was in the Anthelmirs construct gank meta, but a modern example is DK counting to 5, to set off balance, then time incinerate, then dk breath, heart of flame, whip to proc lash, CC, Onslaught, and remaining burst goes off with flame lash spam. not hax or macros, just counting based on skill delays ) , to "infinite health" (literally was just healing on my back bar and blocking, idk what to tell this guy), yet didnt even use addons outside of a 1 - 2 metronome to time skills/recoveries. So again, please do not take this as any accusation of you, just another perspective playing devils advocate.

    ---
to the first part: Maras Balm back bar is the most common example. Bar swap to back bar, auto purge and heal for every negative effect on them (which can be many and result in a full heal), up to every 30 seconds.
    ---
to the 2nd point: are you in any heavy armor? Maybe theyre back barred with a beefy set like Trial by fire and full medium for that max move speed. Ive seen some sus movement speeds too, but just pointing out that its possible by your description that you arent at move speed cap, and they are.
    ---
To the 3rd point, Cleansing Revival Blue CP may be at play for the cleanse. Almalexias mercy set procs on group members, so perhaps the target was in gorethief and rallying, had cleansing revival, and an ally in almalexia?
    ---
to the 4th point, Latency affects this. some people are really good at their rotations, and ani canceling and bash weaves, its an important part of high end pvp. Staying on Target can be a problem in latency though. an example, Ive fought a streamer at one point, and from my end, I was on target the whole time. From their point of view, I was jabbing where they were half a second ago. Id be willing to bet a third party might see me jabbing somewhere between those two points. Regarding macros, I do know well that some people utilize them, but I also genuinely think theyre less useful than people give them credit for in a dynamic pvp setting, where as parsing on a dummy it makes perfect sense. But maybe this player is using them, and even if they are, it is still bound by the global cooldown limits.I don't approve, but its not something you cant overcome with skill.
    ---
point 5: this one irks me. 100%, there are audio cues that may be used to dodge merciless, being that it has a travel time, if the players latency is low enough. I think frag has it too, but honestly less certain about that one. If they were engaged with other players, its possible they were just rolling. if they werent engaged with other players, maybe they saw they entered combat, and roll dodge to avoid a potential gank. Its possible they roll dodged to trigger bows major expedition passive. But 100%, I have experienced people roll dodging in scenarios that they shouldn't know anything was in coming (like they are tab targeted through a wall, and you heavy attack at them from outside said wall, and they still roll dodge it even though it would never hit them/be visible/audible/wont trigger combat). I would love more explanations of that last point.
    ---
point 6: I think everyone has experienced CCs that they can never break free from regardless of available resources. I have always just assumed lag/desync. Some CCs do force an animation to play out (for example, fear you /HAVE TO/ put your hands to your head before you can break free. Knockback you /HAVE TO/ travel and begin getting up before you can break free) and that can be at play sometimes. the new DK fossilize seems to have some of that forced animation to it too, as I cant seem to break free for at least .5 of a second when it hit me. I think the red slippery CP bypasses this, but dont quote me, I rarely use that CP. It is worth noting that the latency meter in ESO is not updated live, so often while you may be experiencing lag, it might not reflect it until a few seconds later or even at all, if it happens between updates, and this 100% can cause your inputs to just not be input.
    ---
Again, just offering some real explanations that MAY play into what you witnessed. Not denying what you experienced, nor defending anyone actually doing anything shady. I just know from my own conversations that many people do not see or know of many possible causes, and jump straight to "HAX!" and I personally, want more people to understand things for their own benefit.

I wish more people would saw this because it is an accurate breakdown I would never write down because I am tired explaining people a simple truth. All content in ESO is so easy they can play HA and onebar builds now and have decent damage, which was not a thing when I started, and this made me learn. I had one HA build tho for PvE content I could not pass at the time I started, but I knew it is very bad and only works for this specific thing and I would need to switch to something else soon, but nowadays people build HA and stay with it forever because it is good enough for them, but it also makes them stop learning and improving. And PvP on contrary is evolving with every update - because every update new broken build shows up and you either adopt or get farmed.

    In short, git gut.

    To add something meaningful:
You can install addon to see your speed and check if it is actually at max or not, full medium + min + maj expedition + swift + Orc sprint + long jumps will make you travel fast af, and these are not all speed sources, you can have CP and road speed bonus for example. You can try to find Skyreach Runner (aka Blackrose Resetter) YT with some good battleground trolling; it is good example of correct fast movement (but I can't provide a link unfortunately, probably somebody else can).

Long jumps is a separate topic, but by jumping to side-way instead of forward you can do longer jumps. Works on flat surfaces mostly.

Lags are real, CMX addon has Skill Desync chart - after 5 minutes in Cyrodiil I can immediately tell if my ISP good today or not - I usually have Skill Desync 200-300, and it is not rare peaks, it is almost constant desync even if my ping shown as 120-130 during prime time and 80 outside of prime time.

Projectiles are easy to dodge, especially from far distance, even from behind. Also, you can rotate your camera without rotating the character (middle mouse button by default iirc), so this person might even saw, I usually check my back as if I am in a car - every like 10-20 seconds if I am cruising and always all the time if I am running from a danger zone and I know there might be enemies.

    @Just_Attivi

All reasonable explanations, although personally it has become easier for me to see when there are manual players who have already set the bar, in combat and have been around for ages, and then compare them to these players. Logs help too. In the past 2 months I have only noticed maybe 40-50 people doing this out of hundreds, but there could be a lot more on my own faction/team and other servers. Mostly controller macros.

Many people forget that 400 people were permanently banned before High Isle for cheating, scripting, 3rd party software, etc. So it’s not surprising to see so and so is back, on a boosted new account and back at it. One of those issues where it is what it is... not worth the time to convince anyone. Not worth telling people to help me report, or call people out for it either. All I can do is report and move on if recognised instead of stir up drama.
