You really believe that Mara's Balm and similar free purge sets should be a stronger alternative to Templar's purge? I'd love to hear your logic behind that.

Since we can have at most 4 sets (2 5pc, monster, mythic) and those sets have cooldowns or proc conditions, it's a much bigger investment than a single skill that is theoretically spammable, and therefore should be stronger.
Edit: as a reminder, there is also the CP that enables a total clear of debuffs available. The Templar purge also has team benefits in the synergy which, if I remember right, cleanses all debuff off the user.

A set is a much larger investment than a single skill.

Extended Ritual is one of Templar's class defining skills. I liken it to NB cloak, Sorc Streak, etc.
I understand that cleansing all negative effects from Mara's Balm or a similar set requires the investment of a 5pc set, but where are the 5pc sets that grant invisibility or streak? Class defining skills typically do not have substitutes or alternatives that are easily sources through equipment or CP stars that all classes can slot.
The inclusion of a CP star that removes all negative effects only further devalues Templar's purge, and makes the case for allowing it to remove all negative effects even stronger.

There are other set and non-set sources of both invisibility and mobility. This does not devalue the original's use or unique utility. Does Mara's Balm cleanse others of all debuffs or give them a synergy to do it themselves? No. Is it on demand? Also no.
For one button press you get: a cleanse of multiple effects, an area heal over time, a cleanse synergy for other players, and proc'd passives. That's a really big payoff that Mara's or other cleanses don't provide
I believe it is a very fair one too, as I am not calling for every purge to expunge all negative effects, but only that stacks of the same negative effect be treated as one individual negative effect when counting against the number of negative effects being purged.

The problem is that this change would utterly murder any stacked effect. Why should it take one button press to undo something that took multiple GCDs to build? Again, that sort of thing is why healing and defense are for. And Templar is already one of the most defensively stacked classes in the game. If anything, you need to take all that energy and put it into demanding more damage for Templar.
If they really wanted to they could make Purify cleanse half the debuff off your bar, at minimum 3. It would make the class more viable in outnumbered situations. Spending 3-4 GCDs self healing is what weakens the class compared to NB cloak or sorc streak.

This is the proper approach. This change allows for pressure builds to not be completely shut down, but at the same time allows a templar to fight off excessive effect stacking (which outside of maras balm and cleansing revival has zero counters)
