what's with Maarselok now?

Saw more than 1 players using Maarselok on average every BG games.

All of them share similar builds - not warden, but sorc based, seems subclass, some with unleashed, but no status effects otherwise, so Maarselok proc was almost useless, but they're very good players, and healing was over the top.

So why Maarselok? Am I missing something here?

Maarselok is a good set even without investing into loads of dots. So if you do something like shalks/curse > crystallised weapon (charge heavy attack)> into rending slashes/dawnbreaker/any spammable= all that damage going off at once. It’s a good combo imo. Static reverberation plays a part too

Players woke up to the fact that stacking instances of damage was more powerful than stacking damage. Always has been, but esp. became true in Gold Road.

maarselok has been popular in pvp for awhile, especially with how easy it is to stack up negative effects to boost its dmg

ele sus also being popular, provides at least 4 negative effects on its own (ele sus debuff for the breach + 3 status effects)
    plays PC/NA

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (fully filled out with current game), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

in progress: acquiring mundus stones (currently only have the thief)

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

Maarselok + Vate Ice + Disdain/any other damage set had been a thing for a while. It is like the only viable DoT setup for non-DK class
