Dynamic Encounters need a timer

At the locations where Dynamic Encounters begin, crowds of players gather waiting.
Sure, waits can't last more than 30 minutes, but wasting all that time isn't a good idea for anyone who wants to farm these Dynamic Encounters.
Some might argue that, if you take the round trip, you can cycle through all three worlds.
But that's not the case.
In fact, when you change areas, you easily change instances as well, so the timer is different and the player is left feeling disoriented.
If there were a countdown in each instance and each area, a timer indicating how long it is until the next Dynamic Encounter... that would be very useful and would help players avoid wasting time waiting.

I think they can easily adapt this as they have done it with the Skirmish times in Night Market.

I completely agree with this proposal. :)

Waiting up to 30 minutes at spawn locations is highly inefficient for anyone looking to farm Dynamic Encounters.
The suggestion about cycling through different worlds doesn't work in practice, because phasing into a different zone or instance completely messes up the timing.

As another user pointed out, the developers have already implemented similar countdown systems for other features in the past, like the Skirmish times in Night Market.

A visible countdown timer for each instance would be a massive quality-of-life improvement. It would prevent players from wasting hours just standing around and staring at a blank screen.

While I get where you are coming from, and it is indeed annoying...I think the playerbase made this feature way bigger than it probably was intended by the devs.

The devs saw this probably as something fun you can join in if you are casually doing something else in the zone and happen to pass by.

But the playerbase is so starved for content and reward drops that everyone is farming these scraps with huge crowds.

By the time they implemented the timers everyone probably has the drops and never does them ever again since it's account bound stuff.

In fact I like your timer idea so I can get it done more efficiently. I was just framing how the devs more or less sold us this minor feature in the streams.

But with timers it will be dead content quickly for a lot of people because the rewards are (once again) very lackluster for longtime players

I think they should do it like Fallout, where the Zone tells everyone in it with a countdown to get to it. But only if they intend to keep and expand upon and have many more of these Dynamic Encounters. And I hope they do. And to also increase the rewards, rotate them or even stagger them between many different Encounters. It feels like farming because its new and there are only 3 of them. Later on down the road it won't be.

I was literally about to same basically the same thing. This content wasn't meant to just be kind of stumbled upon, especially not when they tied something people have been asking for for YEARS (the ability to choose WW fur color regardless of Morph) to one of them. There was no way the devs didn't expect this to be farmed.

Also because the only time I spend in Glenumbra, Auridon, and Stonefalls is when I am doing the Favors, and that only takes a few minutes to complete. The chances of a DE occurring in the instance I am already in while there is extremely small.

I haven't even done a Favor yet lol, so I'm almost never in those Zones unless I'm grabbing a Survey/Map from them. And I doubt most people are spending much time in these Zones for anything else other than the DEs and the Favors, which means there's not much for them to be doing TO stumble across one that's up. Now if they were in more popular Zones like maybe Deshaan, Wayrest, and whatever AD city the Undaunted Enclave is in, well, a lot of people hang around the Enclaves as they wait for Pledges, but they can also do shopping (since for Deshaan and Wayrest at least there are pretty popular Trader Guild hubs in them) while checking the map every so often to see if the DE would be up.

There will always be new players or returning players who will need these drops. Or perhaps players who enjoy them might want to do them from time to time.

Also, having a timer will increase chances that people will join these encounters. Like most new content, the crowds we see at these DEs will thin and disappear over the next few weeks, and then it will be difficult for newer players to get these done by themselves (are these even soloable? the fact that you have a timer to complete and can fail these makes me guess maybe not for the majority of players).

Not only a timer there are a lot of game design problems with them. The droprate of the green gem is nearly inexistent and all you do is wait for respawns.

And what would a "veteran" player even do in Stonefalls? Most players have already completed the quests, and probably the zone story and objectives as well, so personally, I don't see any reason at all to go to Stonefalls. Sometimes when I’m buying something, a trader might have what I want at a good price, so I’ll pop into that zone for a minute, but that’s really rare—which is why the devs’ statement applies, at most, to new players...

So right now, what I want is the Agility Gem and that golden Eel Pie recipe that drops (or will start dropping as of today) from the Encounter in Stonefals, and personally (and I’m probably not alone), I don’t have anything else to do in that zone, so my plan is to park my character at the spot where the event starts, alt-tab out to watch a movie/stream/whatever, and wait for the event to start, then repeat the process. I can’t go do anything else in the game because I don’t know when the Encounter will start, so this is absolutely terrible design, and yes, I’d really appreciate a timer.

Or if I knew that every event starts on the hour and then again at exactly half past, so every 30 minutes at the same time—regardless of the instance—that would be enough for me, too. I’d know it would start at a specific time, and I could do something else in the game and be at the right place at the right time...

Exactly. I mean, they probably got the inspiration for dynamic encounters from the "public quests" of the old Warhammer Online (which actually inspired alot in ESO, especially the AvA), but that public quests had the reset timer!

Ok, no really, we need a timer for these things. I swear I had to wait for almost an hour (it was definitely more than 30 minutes) today for a reward of 2 pieces of blue gear and a soul gem. Please for the love of Mara, let us have a timer for these encounters.

I did all three just to see what they were like, and it wasn't really fun because I didn't really do anything, there were 150 people there so I just ran with the convoy from point to point, got a hit in once and got a chest, once I had the house fragment drop I haven't done a single one since. And on top of that, having to wait 30 minutes?

Why is the timer not 15, 20 max? or even have three encounters in the zones instead of one, the timer is 30 minutes but you have 9 encounters to jump between? something like how dolmens have 3 in the zone and rotate.

If they continue adding more new Dynamic events they should add a world timer to the game that displays when Events are going to spawn and they should stagger them like 15-20 minutes from each other insetad of them all spawning at once. That way you have the opportunity to go to multiple instead of standing around waiting 30+ minutes.

Oh I so dearly miss that game! My little goblin squig herder was probably my favorite archer/bow-wielding character of all time across all MMOs I ever played. He was a menace!

No other game ever managed to incorporate balanced ranged combat as well as Warhammer Online.
