What can we do to help?

ESO is profitable, right? The community is devoted. The devs have given players much more fun combat options recently with viable pure classes while still maintaining some multiclass advantages etc, and many great QoL improvements. This just doesn't make sense, and many of us will help if there's something we can do to fix these recent changes. I've seen companies reverse decisions like this, this doesn't haven't to be final.

Is there something we can do to help, @ZOS_Kevin ? Many of us are appreciative of what you all have built, you have people on your side.

While Microsoft is wildly, wildly profitable, it's stock value doesn't really reflect this. In fact, shareholder confidence has been low, resulting in a dip in the stock price.

Ultimately, the only, the sole thing we are actually allowed to value is Shareholder Return On Investment. Layoffs historically drive stock up.

    They're not reversing this decision.

I mean the people who knee-jerked and cancelled their subs really aren’t helping. I think NOT overreacting atm until we know the scope of the damage (random deleted BlueSky tweets don’t count) and the lay of new roadmap is a healthy mindset to have.

Play the game and make it a better place for other players. Help some new players out. Tell people—in-game or elsewhere—what you like about ESO. Focus on your favorite activities and longterm goals in the game.

The best way for us to keep the community's spirit up is to start with ourselves.

No matter what happens, that makes time more enjoyable.

My heart goes out to everyone at ZOS <3 You've all been through a lot already after seeing the Blackbird team axed and lost so many of your colleagues there. One year on and it must feel like you're stuck in a time loop with another colossal round of job cuts. Morale must be incredibly low :'(

I hope you realize there are a lot of us that still appreciate all the work you do. A lot of us that love returning to Tamriel. A lot of us excited for the work you're currently doing. I hope the higher-ups start to recognize that talent sooner rather than later, even if that means investing in whatever Rich is spearheading next (presumably ESO2 is the only project that would get a greenlight?) rather than investing in ESO. You all deserve to catch a break.

    A yes
    B yes
    C no

They only care about the money. If they make this game profitable, we prove them right: they didn't and don't need those ppl. Gamers are satisfied with less content, less investment.

I prefer we play the game so statistics show, ppl love _the game_. But no money for them. So they see we only pay for actual content and they need developers and creators to make said content.

They have enough money. They just want to spend it where it can make more money. ESO is not that.

Every tech company has to cut back because they were crazy overhiring after COVID / in the last years. This outcome was expected, it‘s surprising it took them so long.

Nothing, the outcome was coming the moment they were acquired. Look up what happens in software mergers and acquisitions. Eventually the same thing happens. Most acquisitions actually lead to either a reduction or closure.

ESO mirrors Destiny 2 in a lot of ways. And we know where that went.

So teach Microsoft that they can get rid of 50% of the staff and you are willing to support it. Are you a shareholder?

Thanks for reaching out and the kind words here. Right now, all we can ask is you continue to support ESO in whatever way you feel comfortable. We are working on adjusted timelines for you as well, so that you can make the most informed decision. Your time and money is important, so we are not in a position to dictate how to spend it. But we'll update everyone as we know more.

Actually, no. The continued support is mostly a message that the bean-counters were wrong. Pretty much like how yesterday's news was mostly a statement that Matt Booty and Phil Spencer were wrong. Be anti-corpo and spin it however you'd like, but bean-counters are bottom-line kinda folks and that's the only message they see and understand.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

Echoing what Kevin said, the best thing we can do to help right now is to just curb the expectations and just play the game. Rally community support and outreach to those that lost their jobs, as well as those that could potentially STILL get laid off later.

I definitely have serious criticisms and issues with the game, but right now I'm putting that aside for what actually matters—the game, the community at large, and the people that made it happen who are no longer part of the team.

Rich is out too. He's on the list being compiled here. In the stream chat (linked in that post) where he revealed his termination, he said "they don't need a studio game director anymore." So read into that what you will.

Companies close businesses that aren't selling things. I definitely understand not wanting to spend money on this game when things are this uncertain and it's unclear what they can even deliver. I know I am waiting to see this new roadmap before making my final decision although I admitting I'm not optimistic. But that's really more about what's good for me as a gamer than for the employees who rely on the game generating income to succeed. In the end, whether or not to spend is a personal choice and there's no wrong answer. Just be sure of what you're saying with your wallet is what you want to say.

Yes. From what I gather, there's barely a VFX team now and concept artists & animators have been cut too.
