Nerf IA Gear = Hate

If ZOS nerfs the IA gear that people are slogging through the most mindless boring tedious repetitive content in the game for, then I hope they know it will only incite rage and delete any good will we gained with recent changes.

Yep. They buffed a lot of things. Now they're starting to nerf things again quickly despite knowing the power it was bringing us and that players had to grind for the gear.

There was already a pointless PVE nerf to Signet. If they do more pointless nerfs to gear that people are grinding for in some of the worst content in the game, it will infuriate them. They already knew the power surge it gave us when it was on the PTS, they still let us have it. I don't even like the power surges, but it's obvious to see that it makes people hate the game when players waste their time with a meta that disappears immediately.

Last I checked, Signet did not come from Infinite Archive. If they nerf IA gear, I'd understand complaining. Not necessarily agree, kinda depends on what/how, but I'd understand. But making something up whole cloth to be mad about is not one I get.

As for signet...I mean, do you want them to be quick about fixing problems that make it to live or nah?

It went from 170 to 133% but it applies status effect twice as often. I'm not sure I'd call that a nerf for pve. Maybe a very tiny one.

    Edit:
Having higher uptime on effects like poisoned or bleeding might actually be a dps buff on some builds.

No one said Signet was in IA. They nerfed Signet with it's own awful grind. Lots of folks are making the IA slog right now and I was warning against nerfing those also. It's pretty simple. Thanks for your responses, they were the best you could do.

Gear nerfs honestly feel like a scam sometimes and not gonna lie — that's literally baseline ESO. Yet players hit close to 200k parses, up from 90k back in 2020.

It works pretty much like this: ZOS releases gear that outperforms everything else by a mile, purely as a cheap cash grab to sell new DLCs. Then the nerf cavalry arrives, but they buff skill damage and passives at the same time. The new item drops from god-tier straight to bruh-tier. Even so, players end up dealing even more damage.

Yes it did. They nerfed Pyrebrand at the end of the first week of the pts. Now it's not good at all. So this post may seem like it's entirely out of left field, but maybe not.

NB class set got nerfed when it was interacting with another set that "overlapped" with what it was doing and caused literal invincibility not too long ago. For those that know or encountered it in PvP, they can attest to how much "fun" it was. It was a well deserved change and nerf no matter who complains about that set getting cut or how much they've grinded.

Thing is, the difficulty of getting these sets means that they aren't really being tested on live, and if they aren't tested on live if interactions like the above one happen then they may not be reported or well-known and result in a nerf.

I know I'm not farming IA and wasting my time, to test interactions between countless sets, then writing a bug report. No way. Not unless I already can see the broken or buggy interaction from a programming perspective and want to test the idea just for "fun".

I did get Arcanist's class set (whatever the one the name is that puts status effects) to stack with another set and one shot people even without the signet. Been doing that since late 2025 in BGs. That set is a sleeper, and probably will be marked for adjustment soon tbh.

Yes, as opposed to waiting to see the nerfs happen and watching everyone get mad about it. Some folks think that it's better to keep things from getting broken rather than letting them break and complaining after. Thank you for your responses though, it's nice to see people try.

It makes some players feel like ZOS is back to their old ways; instead of balancing, they nerf stuff to the ground.
  • PrinceMeroborn
Which I agree with its crazy to nerf something making it below average for PvP and moderately decent for PVE. But ZOS will do what they do; we just play the game and move on!

I think the intention of OP might have been just to warn about the drawbacks of blindly nerf interesting stuff to the ground instead of taking the time to actually think and find a balanced approach... I did my own post about it as well, but yeah, this post is just outright whining :D

Only IA gear should drop in IA. Every piece of every set comes in all three weights. That's a crazy amount of time to get what we're after. Grinds this grueling are not worth the effort. This is the kind of design that causes people to leave games IMO.

I really want to try the nightblade siphoning set and the necromancer one that gives you a DR and healing taken buff, but lordie it's tough trying to make myself actually run IA for it. The only IA set I have in active use is aetheric lancer, and it's not even 'done' technically, I just decided I'd rather use a 2h axe instead of grinding more for the specific 2h weapon I wanted.

I may get to it eventually, but it's such a bad grind I seriously consider replacing them with a crafted set, or more easily acquired non-crafted.

The disgusting IA grind is the main reason I'm not trying different classes as a DPS in U50. Farming IA makes me close ESO and play a different game. The IA slog is extreme.

The other reason is the never ending changes that destroy our builds and progress. Why should I spend so much time, effort, and gold to make builds and progress if ZOS is going to just destroy them?

In this case though, nothing has happened yet. And as for the Signet in PvE (PvP is a whole other story) which one would you say applies in this case? Did they nerf it to the ground? Or did they balance it? Sometimes balancing can entail a nerf. I've noticed a large portion of the complaints come from people that have no actual interest in balance. It has already happened.

Shattered Path Signet: This set's damage done with status effects now only applies to monsters. Reduced the maximum damage bonus from 170% to 133%, and reduced the Ultimate required to reach the cap to 133, down from 170. Reduced the cooldown for applying Status Effects when at the maximum Ultimate threshold to 2 seconds at 133 Ultimate, down from 4s at 170.

They could have changed it to while battle spirit is active you only do 50% bonus status damage while having 170 ultimate or more. That in my opinion would have been a more reasonable balance for it in PvP.

They could have added in their while Battle spirit is active you take 50% more damage from Critical Damage.
  • PrinceMeroborn
Also, why did they choose 133%? Why not choose 150%? I think it's annoying when they don't explain what their formula for balancing things out is.

Grinds my gears personally. Cannot be divided into integer cleanly and games like these when things are not in clean integer, they almost always just drop the decimal part. For example, this thing with the bear will now be 66.5% each and it will likely just be 66% instead of 67%. Hope not but that'd be 1% more nerf than the game lets on if the formular works like this.

Funny you mention that. Integer math is generally faster than floating point math, or at least it used to be. The outcome will depend on whether they truncate the fractional part or round up or something else. Hard to say, my programming experience is kinda old now.
