I think cosmetic changes like a cheese icon are very different from gameplay changes like sets and skills.
To change a cheese icon in a way that makes people do a double take and possibly feel like they’re losing their minds is very on theme. I have no idea if the lack of a patch note was intentional, given ZOS’s long history of unintentionally unannounced changes, so that undermines some of the humor, but the cheese change itself was funny to me. I could find humor in it precisely because it doesn’t impact the actual functionality of anything. I got a kick out of it, figured it was possibly Sheo related, laughed regardless, and moved on.
When changes that impact functionality go unannounced, that means ZOS is not giving us the tools to play the game how we like, at least for those of us who like to be informed about what we’re doing. It undermines trust because we rely on the patch notes for information that impacts how we play. From what I can tell the vast majority of missed notes are unintentional, but that doesn’t change the impact. That’s not so funny to me. It’s frustrating.
That all is to say that I think there can be very limited circumstances in which unannounced changes are ok, but anything that impacts gameplay is not such a circumstance for me, and that’s where frustration about missed notes is coming from.

Agreed. I just thought this one change was comical and probably Sheo related somehow. But certainly any changes that would change how we make builds, use our skills, etc, should all be in the patch notes. Just thought people could have a little fun with this one particular change.

I like this excuse. I'm also blaming Uncle Sheo. Boo that prince!

I’m waiting to see if anyone in my guilds notices and says something. Most don’t read the forums, so hopefully they’ll get a nice surprise!

technically, the cheese icon was changed back when the werewolf update was released, so it's been out for a while now. I remember I noticed and made a comment on it to my friends back in the previous update the other week.

Thanks! I think yesterday was the first time I looted cheese since U50, so that was the first occasion since that patch that I’d happened to see the icon. Don’t tell Sheo, but I just let it sit in the vacuum that is the craft bag and never actually look at it.
