I hate switching between action bars to use different abilities

I do not like weapon swapping at all, the very idea makes no sense. Being able to seamlessly stow one weapon and pull another out of its scabbard in the middle of fast a moving fight is just completely removed from the reality of that kind of fight. You would have to make moves that would open you to attack and your foe would kill you while you were doing it.

And being able to do it repeatedly, back and forth between weapons during the fight is even harder to suspend disbelief on.

I mean this as respectfully as possible. Just get a computer... ?

I have a computer. I even play ESO on it tho it isn't my primary because I prefer my Playstation. I don't know how what platform I play on matters to whether or not ESO was intended to just be a PC game or the elitist attitude of a few PC gamers.

I don't think it's very respectful telling someone to "just get a computer" anyway, however you meant it. That's not always a budget friendly option

Saying you can't get a PC due to the cost of it, yet you have a gaming console, doesn't make sense. That's why I was confused. Because if you have a budget, why would you pick the option that can do LESS stuff than a regular computer. If anything, having less money means you should buy a PC over a console, not the other way around.

I say this as someone who is not at all wealthy and I've had to make choices between the things I want to purchase, and obviously, that meant I could'nt afford a luxurious "only for games" gaming console. A PC is a necessity, it might as well also be able to run the games I want on medium settings.

But I digress. I don't actually care about the PC/Console debate, I was just prompted to ask that question by reading the discussion lol. I have no problem with people playing ESO on console if that's what they want to do and I'm not the person who brought it up in a negative way. This post is about swapping action bars and it is just as annoying on gamepad/console lol

Maybe because we prefer to use a Mac as a computer and the support for those in ESO is sorely lacking. I don’t ever have to worry about the problems my friends have with Windows either.

I like to play my PS5 through the stereo system and kick back in the recliner of my sofa and enjoy the surround sound and giant TV.

If there wasn't bar swapping there could only be the one bar because of console/gamepad. You wouldn't just get twice the skills without having to switch

A controller/gamepad can be configured to use button combinations. It already uses combos, but you don't need 2 actions bars. Just use more combos.

@LadyGP , any time I have to swap action bars, which is any time I fight something. All content. Except for housing heh

That..? Currently, press a button to swap bars, press a button to use a skill.. 2 buttons. Combo.. press 2 buttons to access a skill.. what's the functional difference?

[edit] I use a controller on PC, and personally prefer the 2 bar arrangement.. divides the skills into zones.. backbar ranged, front bar melee

One thing I haven't seen written in this topic, or I really haven't read well, is that human beings have 5 fingers on each hand.
When playing TESO, I move with ZQSD (French keyboard here), my skills are on & é " ' ( keys and I bound the ultimate to ² (left of &/1 key on French keyboards).
Crouch with Left Shift, jump with Space, sheath/unsheath with R, swap between bars with C (just above Space) with the thumb, I can reach all the major functions with one hand.

If we had a single skill bar with, say, eight or ten skills in it, how would I reach the keys with my five fingers on left hand ? How far would on the keyboard would go these shortcuts ? Would I have to click more buttons on screen ? That would be much less comfortable to play.
I'm glad there are two 5 skills+ultimate bars and we can swap between them. I've never been a big fan of MMORPGs and hack and slash games, for many reasons, one of them being the overcharged UI with dozens of little squares and each one having its own function. No thanks, at least TESO UI is simple and readable.

I'm a one bar builds only. I agree with the OP. Played a few MMOs that had extensive combos. They always had 10 skills across the board on numbers 1 - 0 to make it easy for the player.

In Final Fantasy you could easily map 16 actions per setup and you could have several setups active without the need to weapon switch. A controller is not the problem, the layout for your skill bars is.

Title, really, as simple as that. It is cumbersome and annoying. It makes casting anything on my 2nd action bar take, like... way longer. It is not convenient, or even fluid for that matter. Most of the time in combat when I hit my switch action bars button, it doesn't do anything. I have to hit it multiple times. If it was smooth as just Switch Action Bar > Cast Ability > Switch back, then I wouldn't be complaining, lol.

ESO's combat is "fine", but it's RIGHT on the edge of unacceptably clanky. That's really the best way to describe it.

So many games do this better.

I've played the Diablo 2 Remastered on console, which was designed to allow you to use 10 hot keys on a keyboard, which doesn't format well to a console controller unless you have a bar-swap mechanic.

The way D2 does this is you are by default on your front bar until you press and hold your right trigger, and then you are on your back bar of skills. Release RT and you are instantly by default back on your front bar of skills. It is FAR less cumbersome than the existing controller scheme for ESO and it is a shame we can't do some button-mapping to fix this in-game.
