Do Group Members Have to Be In The Same Zone?

I was planning on farming Dragons for Zeal of Zenithar parcels. Despite belonging to multiple Guilds I couldn't find anyone to group with. None of my guildies were interested in dragon hunting although they would let me join them in clearing Alik'r dolmens (boring). Here's my question - Can I group with someone yet not actually join them in combat? Can I group with someone who just wants to solo in Vvardenfell and leave them in Vardenfell to fight dragons in Southern Elsweyr while still retaining grouped status and earning Zenithar parcels?

Should be easy enough to test. Join the dolmen group, and go off on your way and kill a dragon. 😜

No, you can't. You need to be close enough with your guildmate to get reward box. For example, I was in mixed group couple of days ago and one of our members tp to another zone to cleanse inventory - and while he was away those guys who were in the same guilds as him (but not the same with other group members) didn't get boxes.

from my testing you have to be on same map, but not necessarily close together.

I might go one step farther and narrow that to "same instance of that map". Guildie and I were doing dolmen in Auridon (same map), but were not in the same instance and got no boxes.
