Anyone tried this combo on a force pulse spam build? wondering how much this could pull using some passives like the warden for extra chilled or arcanist of extra status effects.
PvE or PvP?
problem is the way status proc chance works.
Base is 10% for direct damage.
One uses Destruction staff so +100%
+60% from CP
One would definitely use charged staff with poison enchant +235%
That is already more than 50% total chance of proccing a status effect. Asylum desro would basically only bring it up to ~75% chance. Now for PvE one would see why that is not in favor of asylum staff because there are other abilities (i.e. dots) that can also proc status effect (Like warden's winters revenge or arctic blast), that do not benefit from asylum staff. (consider also that for warden chilled does more damage)
For PvP: Compare this to threads of war set: Even if you avoid every source of status effect chance and are playing in No CP you would end up with: (base 20% chance from direct damage)
Asylum: (0.6+3)/2 = 1.8 status effects per seconds
Threads of war: 1.6 status effects per seconds
So that might be the case where asylum is a little bit ahead. But also this assumes that one spams Force Pulse Bach to back. If one assumes Charged, then it is:
Asylum: (3*0.435+3)/2 = 2.1525 status effects per seconds
Threads of war: 1.305 + 1 = 2.305 status effects per seconds
Other options would be Heartland Conqueror, Dragons Appetite, Draugrkin's Grip, Symmetry of the Weald, maybe Poisonous Serpent, Unleashed Terror. (The Ice Furnace for Endless Archive AoE)
The way I see it, when theorycrafting I started to realize it's either better to use skills that guarantee status effect procs, or invest in status effect chance so that normal skills that don't guarantee procs will define the build. If you mix and match to much between guaranteed status procs and increasing chance to proc, you will waste your 5pc sets getting tugged in 2 directions.
If you revolve around guaranteed procs from things like asylum staff, you should find sets that increase status damage like draugrkin and critical strikes. Don't rely on increasing your status effect chance at that point.
If you revolved around increasing your chance for skills to proc status effects that do not guarantee the proc, then you're better off letting crit drop lower so that you can keep 'Symmetry of the Weald' or 'Heartland Conqueror' with charged trait. If you are trying to boost chilled damage with warden, spell damage is very efficient at boosting chilled damage because the passive Glacial Presence is using 10.55% of your spell damage to add to your base chill (which also calculates based on your spell damage). Thus with chill on Warden you are double dipping the benefits of spell damage.
The mythic ring Shattered Paths Signet is essentially mandatory to deal meaningful status effect damage.
